Album:

For a decade now, the Swiss glam/sleazers have been creating a great atmosphere. The guys know par excellence how to transport the spirit of the Golden Age on the Sunset Strip of the City of Angels into the present day.Good mood Sleaze Rock with plenty of cliché, as can be seen on the cover of the disc with the lolling scantily clad lady on the bed. Sleazily they rock from the hip into the ears. Catchy with a sing-along factor. The guys know how to make your feet bounce. The perfect soundtrack for a hairspray-soaked party. But they are also good on the emotional side. The guys don't reinvent the wheel but offer solid music that transports you back to the Sunset Strip and simply puts you in a good mood. In this sense, Come On Let's Have A Party.

Album:

Modern Hard Rock has managed to stay alive by reinventing itself in many ways. Both the old school and new school have creating new sounds in order to not only pander to the older audience, but also attract the new fans. Swizz Hard Rockers BLACK DIAMONDS released their 2nd full length album “Once Upon a Time” this March and boy its long, with 14 songs in it.The album starts with an intro in “Tales Untold” which is mostly atmospheric tempo build up with some intrinsic keyboard and drums work in there. “The Ghost and the Shadow” starts with fast paced riffs right from the beginning and it is nothing but a really good rhythmic juicy hair lifting riffage. The vocals of Michael Kehl, who also does the Rhythm guitar work here, is really worth appreciating, as it works and fits in perfectly for the genre and type of Hard Rock that the band plays here. “Love Stick Love” has a bit of GUNS N ROSES influence coming out of it, but the band still stay true to their unique fast paced guitar driven Hard Rock, and the influences are clearly shown as the song slows down in its outro with the sound of a women moaning as it rains and thunders heavily in the background. “Romeo & Juliet” sounds like the melodic Hard Rock version of JUDAS PREIST’s “Breaking The Law”, but the song manages to have its uniqueness through its riffs and lyrics. “Pieces of a Broken Dream” is an interesting 80s rock ballad, which has lots of sharp guitar solos, reminiscent of the great 80s bands like AC DC and GUNS N ROSES.The vocals in “Love, Lies, Loneliness” remind me of Sabastian Bach of SKID ROW. “Thrillride” can be best described as a Desert Hard Rock song with the vocals of Joel O'Keeffe from AIRBOURNE, with some very inspirational lyrics that can be considered as the best in the album. The album started to test my patience with “Vampires of the Night” as it didn’t offer anything new compared to what was on offer so far. “Not Going Home” sounds like a Hard Rock party song that you would here in a 90s teen movie. The 10th song ironically titled “Hard to Let Go” is another mediocre song here, offering nothing new to the listener, besides the catchy lyrics. Besides the generically titled “Rock'n'roll Music”, which sounds exactly as you would expect it to, a party rock n roll song, the rest of the album is just testing the listener’s patience. Although, it’s worth mentioning that the album does end with a unique keyboard version of “Vampires of the Night”, as Michael Kehl screams his way into oblivion.“Once Upon a Time” is a “could be great album” that was undone by its ‘too many songs and no variety’ problem. It’s an album that most fans of the genre should love for the most part, except when it starts getting monotonous and boring. This album has its shelf life, which is part of the problem, but hey there are some good solos in there. Jump in.

Since the band was founded in 2004, the four guys from the St. Gallen Rhine Valley (CH) have skillfully combined hard rock with catchy melodies. The energetic live show is generously enriched with glam rock elements: black eyeliner, hairspray, Hello Kitty shirts - in short: everything that Pandora's make-up box has to offer. In 2017 the Black Diamonds released their third studio album "Once Upon A Time" and set out on a three-week European tour as the opening act for H.E.A.T (SE). In the following year they accompanied Crystal Ball (CH) on their tour across Germany. There were also other concert highlights such as the opening of the Bang Your Head Festival in Balingen (DE), the Rock The Ring Festival in Hinwil (CH) and the HEAT Festival in Ludwigsburg (DE).In March 2021 the new album “No-Tell Hotel” will be released on the record label Metalapolis. The band's own hotel opens its gates: From the common casual killer to the retired syndicate boss, everyone is welcome to hide comfortably and elegantly here. The songs tell the gripping stories of the guests and leave no detail out. Be ready for a massive load of rock and glamour once you step through this door ... Welcome to the No-Tell Hotel!

Album:

As everyone wishes, I also have a set of three wishes to make if I find the Aladdin lamp, but one of them is clear: to go back to the 80’s, and to stay on an endless time loop that begins on 1980 and end on 1989. I miss a lot those days, especially because the radical vision I had on those years (a lot of it influenced by ‘death to false Metal’ and childish things like this), I lost the golden age of Glam Metal. Today, I love bands that I usually said I hated back them. But if I can’t travel in time, bands as the Swiss quartet BLACK DIAMONDS can make my mind go back to those days. Listen to “No-Tell Hotel” and you all will understand what I mean.On their musical work on their fourth album, the listeners will have the same elements from Glam Metal bands from the 80’s as MÖTLEY CRÜE, POISON and KISS (on the unmasked age), but with a strong commercial appeal in the vein of BON JOVI on some melodies and catchy choruses. The energy is amazing, but don’t get the wrong idea: their music doesn’t sound old or moldy, but fresh and really charming. The sound quality worked in a way to keep their music loud and clean, but with strength and weight as well. Obviously the band worked on a way that could sound as they were playing alive, so there’s a refreshing organic feeling blowing throughout all the songs, and the instrumental tunes were chosen wisely. This album is their first with Chris on the guitars, but their music is the same of their past releases, so be prepared to be hooked by their music. Especially for songs as “No-Tell Hotel” (a fine mix between heavy moments and accessible melodies, and what a great work on guitars, both on riffs and on the solos), “Evil Twin” (amazing chorus, vocals and backing vocals), “Lonesome Road” (the contrasts between melodies with a clear accessible insight with strong and heavy parts is excellent), “Saturday” (some influences from DEF LEPPARD appears on the arrangements, and the accessibility is amazing, and this songs is really incredible), “Anytime” (a charming and good ballad), “The Island” (another song with accessible melodies, along with a very good work of bass guitar and drums), and “Reaching for the Stars”, because these ones will make you crawl up the walls. As “No-Tell Hotel” ends, the feeling that the listener will have is that BLACK DIAMONDS is another excellent name from the Swiss Glam Metal scene, and they deserve to grow more and more.

Album:

'Destination Paradise' is the first album where guitarist Chris Blade, who joined the band during the sessions for 'No-Tell Hotel,' was able to contribute initial ideas. This resulted in a very varied album that still contains the typical band trademarks, namely a crazy mix of catchy melodies, hard rock and eye liner.Black Diamonds from Switzerland had sensational chart success with their last studio album “No Tell Hotel” which reached number three in the Swish album charts. The band founded in 2004 by Bassist Andi Barrels and singer Mich Kehl, they were able to leave their mark on the map in 2017 with the release of the album “Once Upon A Time”. For the release of that album they toured Europe with H.E.A.T. In 2018 a tour with Crystal Ball Followed. With numerous festival appearances including Rock At The Ring, Fiendfest, Glam Slam just to name a few also playing countless countries. A headline tour of Germany and Switzerland during the corona break. Then a UK tour with Chez Kane in 2022.”Destination Paradise” is the first album Chris Blade was able to contribute ideas to since joining the band during the “No Tell Hotel” sessions. After seeing these guys support Chez Kane In November 2022,purchasing their last album “No Tell Hotel” I was really excited to be reviewing their new album. ”Through Hell And Back” starts this album it's a fast paced rocker almost power metal ,splendid guitar riffs and runs, very catchy chorus instantly likeable .”After The Rain” the first single is just a superb example of hard rock, its earworm stuff another great track that builds into that big chorus big vocals by Mich accompanied with those big backing vocals Very much Def Leppard Hysteria era sounding for me check out the video its a great video. ”Everybody Heroes” has that big melodic chorus, that European melodic sound that we all know and love. ”Bottoms Up” sees Andi Barrels take lead vocals to take you on a Hair Metal nostalgic journey its such a cool well delivered example of Rock N Roll. ”Only For A While” is a ballad with a great piano intro, the song builds into a soaring chorus it has hit written all over it, superb track.”Rock N' Roll Is My Religion” a great stadium rock track of yesteryear in the vain of Van Halen .”Valley Of The Broken Hearted”, ”Nothings Gonna Keep Me From You” and “From the Ashes” which take you on that eighties melodic rock time travel with that modern hard rock sound, the rhythm section and the guitar solos with vocals that blend superbly, with choruses that you can't help but to sing along to. Then we come to “Leave A Light On “ with guest vocals from David Balfour of the band Maverick who share the same record label, which is a cover of a Belinda Carlisle hit. A very pleasant surprise as they deliver a cool pop/rock cover with some nice vocal harmonies that compliment each other .”Yesterdays News” has lyrics which will be relatable to a lot of people and their life experiences and the world we live in. ”Paradise” one of my favourite tracks on the album just continues with that massive sound with great rhythm which just draws you in with some superb production. ”Run With Us” end the album (CD bonus track) which is a fantastic track to end the album which after a little research as I recognized the song is another cover from the eighties by Lisa Loughheed from the animated TV show The Racoons! Its a very interesting choice but a great rock version nevertheless which works superb!Black Diamonds have definitely lifted the bar with “Destination Paradise” .Its a fantastic album filled with 13 great songs full of great hooks, choruses and melodies truly ear worm stuff, which transport you back to the eighties but also keeps us in 2024 with that modern touch It has fantastic very polished production and mixing. I also love the two cover versions which sound fantastic which were a great surprise which I didn't expect. This album puts Black Diamonds right up there with the likes of H.E.A.T., Crazy Lixx and Eclipse. ”Destination Paradise” is definitely going to be one of my favourite albums this year It's superb and does not disappoint
