Bio:

Hard rock band formed 1983 in Los Angeles, California and disbanded in 1989.In 1983 the then lead singer for Tytan relocated from Britain to the United States--Los Angeles, California to be exact! He hooked up with a drummer from another immerging metal force (A Rising Force you might say), a band called Steeler. Mark Edwards was that drummer. Together these two newly teamed musicians began the makings of a demo tape for a new fresh taste of metal. In 1985 two more forces were added to the duo out of a band called Mansfield to forge another demo called Power Love. This finally panned out as a Japanese release of six songs.Likely the oddest start for a band this band contributed to two movie sound tracks ("Never Surrender" for the movie "The Wraith", and they did the title track for the animated movie "The Transformers") before actually gaining much of any notoriety, nor a full blown album to toe of their own. Amazing!Technically Lion's debut LP release was in 1987 with Dangerous Attraction. Strangely there were circumstances apparently that forbade a release in the US and was limited to Japan once again. Though the second LP (entitled Trouble In Angel City) did actually hit America. The latter was in effect the first demo release (except the title track Power Love) along with 5 new recordings--but were again plagued with trouble securing--this time--overseas release rights!.The band Lion, ended in as tragic a way as they seemed to be plagued with in their releases. In September, 1989, Mark Edwards was seriously injured when he fell from a cliff at a Palmdale, California motorcycle race essentially ending the band's continuance.Their discography includes three movie sound tracks titled Friday 13th Part 4, The Wraith, and The Transformers The Movie, in addition to the studio work with the band entitled Power Love, Dangerous Attraction and Trouble In Angel City.Kal Swan & Doug Aldrich continued the Lion legacy with the band Bad Moon Rising releasing 3 albums, Bad Moon Rising, Blood & Opium For The Masses.

Album:

Rock Candy just released their own Remastered & Reloaded version of LION‘s ”Dangerous Attraction”, the terrific 1987 album from the band featuring hotshot guitarist Doug Aldrich.LION were one of just a handful of magical and highly talented anglo-American bands that came up through the ranks in the mid-80s. Consisting of members that had an existing degree of profile in the rock market, the band was tipped as a unit that could achieve big things. Sadly, despite the fact that it was not their fault, it wasn’t to be.The band were based in Los Angeles and their settled line-up consisted of powerhouse vocalist Kal Swan (ex-NWOBHM group Tytan), former Steeler drummer Mark Edwards, bassist Jerry Best and the young, skilled guitarist Doug Aldrich. They eventually attracted the attention of CBS affiliated Scotti Brothers Records (home of Survivor) and were given the opportunity to record this, their debut album.Despite several trials and tribulations, ‘’Dangerous Attraction’’ set out their stall perfectly. Not by any stretch of the imagination hair metal, the band’s solid power-soaked style made quite a splash with those that got to hear it. Sadly, however, the label’s lack of commitment to the project meant not enough potential fans were even aware that the record existed. That was a shame as it is one of the finest mid-80s hard rock releases, allowing both Aldrich (later to join Dio, Whitesnake and The Dead Daisies) and, especially, Kal Swan to shine like diamonds.Aldrich’s guitar work is just smokin’ here, and Swan is a massive presence on vocals. The songs are all hard-hitting but very melodic. There are a couple of more radio friendly songs, but for the most part this is a hard rocking album, with “Armed and Dangerous,” “Shout It Out” and “Never Surrender” being the standout tracks. But if you ask me, this is a killer record in its entirety.Fans of the ‘80s hard rock scene should definitely have LION’s music into their collections. “Dangerous Attraction” rocks, with melody. The album has been recently remastered by 20th Century Music (featured in exclusive at 0dayrox) but it was a limited edition now out of print. So this Rock Candy remastered reissue is more than welcomed, again, presented in exclusive here.

Album:

Trouble in Angel City is the second and final studio album released by Heavy metal band Lion. Here’s the fresh Bad Reputation Records remastered version of LION‘s second and final album “Trouble In Angel City” (1989). Formed in 1983 in Los Angeles after ex-Tytan vocalist Kal Swan relocated from Great Britain and teamed up with drummer Mark Edwards and guitarist Doug Aldrich (who later joined Hurricane and Whitesnake), in 1986 Lion released their now rare 6-track EP “Power Love” in Japan only (which is enclosed here as bonus tracks), followed by their full length debut “Dangerous Attraction” (1987). “Trouble In Angel City” (1989) was their final release – a superb slice of classic US hard rock from start to finish and one of the strongest releases of 1989.
