Bio:

Joe Lynn Turner (born August 2, 1951), is an American singer, known for his works with hard rock band Rainbow. During his career, Turner fronted pop rock band Fandango, had the short-lived collaboration for neoclassical metal guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen and Deep Purple. From the mid 1990s, he worked with various musical groups (progressive rock band Mother's Army, funk rock duo Hughes Turner Project, AOR side project Sunstorm, etc.), while pursuing a solo career. He is currently the vocalist for Rated X, based on Mother's Army. Their album was released in 2014.

Album:

Holy Man is the 6th solo album of Joe Lynn Turner released in 2000. 'Freedoms Wings' was an outtake of Hurry Up and Wait and a reworked version was released on this album (the original version featured vocals of Doogie White).Former Rainbow/Deep Purple pipesman Turner returns for his second MTM release in as many years, with the same positive result as last year's Hurry Up And Wait. After a series of releases that found this screamer floundering (lowpoint - covering the song Unchained Love on '97's Undercover disc), Turner has hit his stride with two releases in a row that re-live the glory of his roots. Whether he or Gillan were to belt it out, the tunes 'Holy Man' and 'No Salvation' would fit perfectly on any Purple album, while Honest Crime captures the best bluesmanship of JLT's voice. No fluke in '99, JLT rocks in 2000.

He is currently the vocalist for Rated X, based on Mother's Army. Their album was released in 2014.

Album:

Vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, best known for fronting Ritchie Blackmore's RAINBOW during that band's creative peak in the 1980s and later as the frontman for Yngwie Malmsteen, has been called The Man With The Golden Voice, and it's easy to understand why; nearly everything Turner records sounds blessed by the gods of hard rock. His commanding presence, powerhouse range, and emotional resonance has made him the go-to vocalist for a number of artists. Now some of this session work is collected on a brand new collection of studio recordings called simply "The Sessions" and released on October 7 via Deadline Music. The CD release contains superb, supercharged versions of rock classics from "Lunatic Fringe" to AC/DC's "Back In Black", THE DOORS' "Riders On The Storm" to QUEEN's "Fat Bottomed Girls". The album also features guest appearances by Michael Schenker (UFO), Steve Lukather (TOTO), Steve Morse, Phil Collen (DEF LEPPARD), Brad Gillis (NIGHT RANGER), and more!Joe Lynn Turner recently slammed Ritchie Blackmore for the guitarist's decision to go out and perform classic DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW material with a new group musicians instead of reforming RAINBOW with a more "authentic" lineup.Regarding why he thinks Ritchie has chosen to go out with a whole new RAINBOW lineup instead of bringing back some of the musicians who played on the band's classic records, Joe said: "The first thing I think I can say is that he's been misguided by people around him. That's what I really believe. I believe he's been misguided, and I believe he trusts these people and I think that he made a mistake doing this."He continued: "I wanted an authentic reunion. I wanted guys from Doogie [White] and Graham [Bonnet] and [bassist] Bob Daisley and [drummer Bobby] Rondinelli, and all these guys, and I wanted to have a RAINBOW extravaganza, because there are a lot of fans that love RAINBOW that still haven't even seen RAINBOW, and this would be the ticket for them — you know, maybe a two-hour extravaganza. So I guess the people, his advisers or whoever, could not sell him that particular [idea], or maybe they never even told him that. I actually have a feeling that he was not full of the information at the time, because certain things have come to pass that sort of indicated that he didn't know about it, to me."Joe was the singer of RAINBOW between 1980 and 1984 and he sang on the album "Difficult To Cure", which featured the band's most successful U.K. single, "I Surrender".During Turner's time with RAINBOW, the band had its first USA chart success and recorded songs that helped define the melodic rock genre.

Album:

CleoRecs / Deadline Music are releasing on CD and for the first time on vinyl a special reissue of the 2005 album from former Deep Purple and Rainbow singer JOE LYNN TURNER, “The Devil’s Door“, With completely revamped artwork and digitally remastered audio, this album has never looked or sounded better. The CD features two bonus tracks, including the only previously available on the Japanese pressing, “What Can I Do!”.Of course this is the American version of the album ‘The Usual Suspects’ originally only released in Europe & Japan, but the remastered treatment makes the sound quality much better. This is a killer collection of top class melodic hard rock songs, perhaps the stronger JLT solo album ever. From start to finish, Turner’s dominant and spine-tingling vocals succeed in capturing your attention while leaving you mesmerized and begging for more. Combine these vocals with an incredibly talented band – which includes guitarists Karl Cochran (Ace Frehley / VoodooLand) and especially the always amazing Al Pitrelli – who play on most tracks and his riffs are the other star on this CD.There’s also bassist David Z (Joann Jett), Paul Morris (Rainbow, Doro) on keyboards and John O’Reilly (Trans Siberian Orchestra, Rainbow) behind the skins – and no doubt, you are getting an absolute killer band. The album starts off with “Power of Love”… but this ain’t no Huey Lewis! It’s a rocking, melodic composition featuring a strong, catchy chorus and delicious riffs.Other tracks like “Blood Money” and “Devil’s Door” continue on in this vein and are among the heavier tracks on the album.“Jacknife” is another great track and almost reminds me of the time Joe spent with Yngwie while “Ball & Chain” also has an awesome groove to it and gives Pitrelli his chance to shine.“Really Loved” is a bit slower, moodier and more soulful flashing back to Turner’s Rainbow era. Then you have “Rest Of My Life” – what a wonderful AOR tune where we can hear again Turner’s smoothness, that sweet whisper that only him is capable to perform. A favorite. What you can expect from a song titled “Into The Fire”… ? a melodic rocker inspired by the ’80s. “All Alone” blends some really nice guitar fills with a captivating chorus while “Live And Love Again” is an excellent power ballad highlighting some very good keyboard melodies and rounds off the regular release. Both bonus tracks are great, not fillers at all, a bit harder but still maintain the melodic essence that Turner is famous for. With its pulsing rhythms, both “Unfinished Bizness” and “What Can I Do” are comparable to something on the lines of Deep Purple’s ‘Slaves & Maters’… of course featuring Joe Lynn Turner.Easily among the best JOE LYNN TURNER solo albums, “The Devil’s Door” is a terrific slice of classic melodic hard rock plus the first pure AOR song Turner recorded at the time in many years.Joe Lynn Turner never has released a bad album, and this one is for me one of the best under his own full name.

Line-Up:

Album:

The wildest times call for the freest of voices. After selling millions of records, playing to countless fans and fronting some of the most influential rock bands in history, award-winning songwriter and vocal dynamo Joe Lynn Turner speaks his mind as loudly as possible on his 11th full-length offering and Mascot Label Group debut, "Belly Of The Beast". Joining forces with iconic producer Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, Lindemann), the New Jersey-born powerhouse conjures up the kind of heavy metal that not only makes you throw your fist in the air, but also makes you think."Belly Of The Beast is a phrase we've heard over and over again in history", Joe Lynn Turner observes. "You can trace the cults and corruption all over the world back to prophecies in the Bible. It feels like it's coming to fruition these days. When you look at the book of Revelation, there it is. I've always dipped into esoteric knowledge, hermeticism, occultism, bible research & eclectic philosophy. I've been fascinated with discovery of hidden mysteries. We are in a true spiritual war right now. It's good versus evil. We've all got an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. We're in the belly of the beast, trapped in the system and there's no way out of it. The album addresses this."From founding and releasing 4 albums with Fandango in 1977, to performing and recording with Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Deep Purple, Glenn Hughes, Mick Jones, Cher, Lita Ford, Billy Joel, Michael Schenker and Arjen Lucassen's Star One - five decades into his career, Joe Lynn Turner releases the heaviest music he has ever recorded with "Belly Of The Beast".

Album:

Rock Candy Records remastered reissue of JOE LYNN TURNER‘s ’80s AOR solo album “Rescue You“.The sound obtained is huge, a proof the original recording / engineering / mastering is excellent. In between stints with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, Deep Purple and Yngwie Malmsteen, this sought-after singe put out this charting solo album in 1985.Produced by renowned Roy Thomas Baker (Queen) and with a top notch back up band – Bobby Messano (Fiona) on Guitar, Bass, Backing Vocals, Alan Greenwood (Foreigner, Spys) on Keys, and Chuck Burgi (Rainbow) on Drums, JLT delivers a fantastic album which feeling and atmosphere is impossible to re-create nowadays. After his stint with Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner embarked upon a solo career. With band mate drummer Chuck Burgi on hand, Joe debuted his solo self with ”Rescue You” in 1985 on Elektra. All songs were written by Joe and Greenwood, with a little help of external arrangers.According to 1985 and Greenwood involved, the direction was heavy on keyboards. That voice cannot be mistaken. Nobody can sing soul-driven broken hearted AOR like Joe Lynn Turner.Opening track “Losing You” fits this description like a glove. Joe has always been a fine writer and at the time perhaps Journey should have knocked on Joe’s door for some help. The second song, “Young Hearts” is pure radio-ready rock like Steve Perry did on ‘Street Talk’ in 1984.“Endlessly” was the single/video, a keyboard driven AOR ballad, and for sure, a classic tune for the genre. Next title track “Rescue You” is once again very keyboard heavy, but rocks harder than anything else on the album. It has a European flavor, sounding a bit like some of the material Glenn Hughes was doing in the 1980s.Back to the Americas, “Feel The Fire” is that kind of pumping AOR belonging to action movie soundtracks from the era.“Get Tough” some Burgi’s excellent drumming while the bassline sounds like ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ but before that song was ever conceived. One gets the feeling that many of these songs could have been hits if only recorded by someone more famous or with better promotion on MTV.“Eyes of Love” is a moody mid-tempo melodic AOR tune, and Joe sounds awesome on it. “On the Run” is a bit more upbeat, boasting a strong chorus that’s as good as anything on Slippery When Wet.Moving into Purple territory, “Soul Searcher” could have fit in well on their Slaves And Masters LP. One almost aches to hear what Blackmore and Lord would have added to it. However, I really like the ’80s sound from the production side. Going into the closer, “The Race is On” is a really keyboard-racing tune fueled by a catchy melody and Joe’s unique voice.“Rescue You” not only is a great solo debut by Joe Lynn Turner, but also a mid-Eighties AOR little gem.A must have for fans of the genre and Joe’s range & delivery.

Album:

Under Cover is the third solo album by Joe Lynn Turner, released in 1997. It consists mostly of covers by artists who had a great influence on Turner. On the Japanese version of the album, "Gimme Some Lovin" and "I'm Your Man" are two separate tracks instead of one.Under Cover is the first in a pair of cover albums by Joe Lynn Turner, where he pays tribute to some classic hard rock songs by bands that influenced him both as an artist and, in some cases, as a vocalist. While some might see it as “playing it safe” to release an album with reworked versions of songs that were already big hits, I think it actually takes guts to step into the shoes of legends like Jimi Hendrix, Bad Company, and others, and try to cover their music. The truth is, in most cases, the original will always be better, and there’s more to lose than to gain. But on this album, even though Turner doesn’t necessarily top the originals, his versions are well done and deserve credit.Freedom, originally performed by Jimi Hendrix, is definitely one of the highlights here. The song has a lively vibe, with catchy, bluesy guitar riffs and a badass vocal performance by Turner. His powerful tenor voice allows him to perform this song in a higher register, unlike Hendrix, whose husky baritone naturally placed the song a few steps lower. I might actually prefer this version over the original, simply because the sound production is so much better, thanks to three decades of technological advancement, which results in a more modern-sounding recording. There are also plenty of lead guitar solos that ramp up the intensity, and the prominent bass guitar in the mix creates an outstanding performance. It’s one of the best Hendrix covers I’ve ever heard.Sunshine of Your Love, originally by Cream, has probably one of the most famous guitar riffs in history of recorded music, with a catchy blues-derived distinctive motif that repeat itself in a couple of variations through the song and will get stuck in your head for eternity after one listening. The vocal melodies are very simple, and the chorus is catchy enough to singalong to, and it feels like a walk in the park for Turner who can sing this song easily with a lot of energy and improvise a little bit in the second verse to add some variation to this extremely well known song. The usage of wah-wah effect in the electric guitar lead solos is quite tasteful and in overall this cover is quite flawless. While this album might not bring anything groundbreaking, it’s a fun, enjoyable collection of well-produced covers of some of the biggest songs in hard rock history. Fans of Joe Lynn Turner, as well as hard rock in general, will definitely enjoy this one.Japan edition issued in a standard jewel case with clear tray.

Album:

Under Cover 2 is the 5th solo album of Joe Lynn Turner released in 1999. Just like Under Cover, the album consists mainly of covers of Turner's favorite artists. Due to successful sales of the previous edition, the label asked him to record a follow-up."The Race Is On" is a re-recorded version of a song that appeared on Turner's solo debut album, Rescue You."Lost in Hollywood" was recorded as a tribute to the late Cozy Powell who died in a car crash in 1998.In this interesting album, vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (formerly of Rainbow, one album with Malmsteen, and Deep Purple) tries his best at covering some classic hard-rock hits by giants such as Foreigner and Bad Company. While the originals are almost always better, Turner still manages to deliver some highly respectful vocal performances alongside top-notch production. One of the more successful covers here is "Waiting for a Girl Like You," originally by Foreigner. In a somewhat interesting production decision, this track is devoid of any synths, with its catchy main riff performed by clean guitar. The song features great tension-building verses that explode into a very melodic, catchy chorus, and the slightly overdriven, guitar-dominated arrangement gives it a more bluesy, somewhat modern vibe compared to its original '80s feel. The song is performed in a lower key than the original, but it is full of passion and soul, with Turner delivering an amazing vocal performance on this timeless classic. The "Born to Be Wild" cover is also of high quality. The instrumentation is energetic and lively, and Turner varies his voice well, with some words sung with a bit of overdrive that add the required harshness present in the original track. The lead guitar solo, featuring some wah-wah effects, is also quite energetic. Overall, this cover sounds modern even today and doesn't fall short of the original track's level.Covering such a gigantic list of classic songs is no easy task, and in most cases, any artist who attempts to do so has more to lose than to gain. Joe Lynn Turner, however, delivers a highly enjoyable record here, featuring a talented group of skilled musicians and backing vocalists who make most of the songs sound bigger than ever. This is thanks to his passionate and powerful tenor voice, as well as clever arrangements and top-notch production that make Under Cover 2 an enjoyable, energetic, and extremely fun album.Issued in a standard jewel case with a clear tray. Includes: a 12-page colour booklet with English lyrics, credits and release information; a 20 page black and white booklet with English/Japanese track list, Japanese commentary and lyrics; and an obi.The commentary is credited as: 広瀬和生/BURRN!.
