Rhett Forrester (September 22, 1956, Tucker, Georgia – January 22, 1994, Atlanta, Georgia) was an American musician and the lead singer of New York-based band Riot from 1981 until 1984.After Riot, he performed on Jack Starr's Out of the Darkness album (1984) and put out two solo releases: "Gone With the Wind" and "Even the Score". "Assume The Position", his most notable solo song, featured an explicit video.Forrester was shot and killed in Atlanta at age 37 after he refused to give up his vehicle in an attempted carjacking. This crime has not been solved. He was survived by his mother Lafortune Forrester, his brother (guitarist Lucky Forrester),his ex(Windi Grace) and a daughter (Jade Grace) and his fiance, Lori Plester, whom he was living with at the time.During 1985, Forrester performed in the collaboration Thrasher project (on Combat Records), singing "Bad Boys", on the album "Burning At the Speed of Light". He also recorded an album with ex-Keel Brian Jay's band "Dogbone".At the beginning of the 1990s, Forrester played with the Canadian band Black Symphony With Rick Plester and with Alex Masi but no material was produced other than unpublished demo tapes.Rare material, mainly from the projects Mr. Dirty featuring Forrester, Rob Robbins, (guitar) Scot Gains, (bass/songwriter) Ray Mehlbaum,(Drums) and Dr. Dirty, was released, in 1996, in the memorial CD Hell or Highwater.In 1996, Forrester was inducted into Atlanta's Hard Rock Cafe.Forrester was shot and killed at a Northwest Atlanta intersection on the corner of Lovejoy and Merrit off Techwood Drive after he refused to give up his vehicle in an attempted carjacking; he was 37 years old. The crime remained unsolved for some time. He was survived by his mother Lafortune Forrester, his brother, guitarist Lucky Forrester, his ex, Windi Grace, daughter, Jade Grace, and his fiance, Lori Plester, whom he was living with at the time.One person (who apparently pulled trigger) was killed and another was arrested for other crimes, finally admitting to being at the scene of Forrester's death, among other murders.

After the demise of Riot, Forrester teamed with former Virgin Steele guitarist Jack Starr and appeared on his 1984 solo album, Out of the Darkness, which featured The Rods rhythm section of Carl Canedy and Gary Bordonaro.This was also the line-up that traveled to France in the summer of 1984 for an appearance at the 2-day Breaking Sound Festival in Le Bourget, near Paris, on August 30. Erroneously billed as Virgin Steele in advance of the festival, they played just below headliners Dio and Blue Öyster Cult.With "Gone With The Wind" the solo debut of the former RIOT-singer (released on 1984, "Restless Breed", "Riot Live" and "Born In America") will be released on CD for the first time. Reinforced by the then rhythm section of the RODS (Gary Bordonaro on bass and drummer Carl Canedy, who also produced) used the originally started as a tour band by Jack Starr (who wanted to present his then current LP "Out Of The Darkness" at a festival in France) Team up with the guitar hero's "indisposition" to fill in the studio time reserved for the second JACK STARR album with the recordings for "Gone With The Wind". The investors were probably satisfied with the replacement at that time, but the first own attempts by Forrester never found a wider spread. Because unfortunately the staid songs rarely with the huge, slightly bluesy voice of 1994 shot at the age of only 37 years shot on the street shouters. As a further flaw, the electronic drums or the use of a drum computer unpleasant. On the plus side you have to mention the aggressive guitar work of Paul Kayen, who kicks the material as far forward as possible. For RIOT fans and followers of melodic rock or metal "Gone With The Wind" may be recommended, everyone else should rather stick to RIOT's "Born In America". Forrester has never been able to fully exploit his huge potential.

When the late, great metal / hard rock vocalist RHETT FORRESTER left RIOT after their well received 1983 »Born In America« album, it did not take too long for him to start work on solo career. Rhett recorded 2 solo albums during the ’80s, and while he didn’t released a third, the singer did not stop recording new music collaborating with various musicians in different bands and projects over a period of six years until his untimely death in 1994, when he was shot and killed in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 37.Compiled by High Roller Records under the title “Sessions“, this CD includes some awesome recordings professionally done with RHETT FORRESTER as frontman of various bands such as Dr. DIRTY, DOGBONE (with former KEEL members), a project with guitarist Jonathan Grell (ex WINTERKAT) and other with legendary Carl Canedy (THE RODS).Honestly, the material included here is some of the best we heard from Forrester, killer bluesy hard rock with strong songwriting and solid production. Sound quality is very good, all the material remastered & restored by recording engineer and metal musician from Germany Patrick W. Engel.The »Sessions« compilation brings together a number of different projects that Rhett Forrester was involved with across his all too brief but nevertheless impressive career.For the most part these recordings have fallen into relative obscurity compared to the more well known Rhett Forrester releases, be it with the legendary RIOT, JACK STARR’s first solo record »Out Of The Darkness« or Rhett’s own solo output.First up are the »Dirty Water Sessions«, which were first heard on the long out of print compilation album »Hell Or Highwater«, recorded in Texas with guitarist/co-writer Jonathan Grell – formerly of the band WINTERKAT. These songs represent the very last recordings Rhett made before his untimely death.Next up is the “Dogbone” project, a tentative band Rhett formed with then former KEEL members Brian Jay and Dwain Miller. These recordings got a limited semi-official release in the mid 1990s, but have largely been unheard until now.In addition »Sessions« includes the sole track from the “Thrasher” project album featuring Rhett. Masterminded by Andrew Duck McDonald and Carl Canedy this track also featured on the »Hell Or Highwater« compilation.

No matter what we would throw at him, Rhett always delivered a great performance.”The actual demo sessions for Dr. Dirty took place from 1992 through to early 1993, some songs recorded in Canada, but others in L.A.A record label was interested in releasing the album, just when the project split up.

Jack Starr is a heavy metal and blues guitarist and songwriter born of a French mother and American father.He learned to play guitar by ear, copying the riffs of R&B records.His first semi-professional band was Les Variations in France with future members of Trust.Back in the U.S., he emerged on the rock and metal scene in 1981, forming, together with Joey Ayvazian, David DeFeis and Joe O’Rielly, the first incarnation of the heavy metal band Virgin Steele. The new band was selected in 1982 by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records to appear on the label's compilation album U.S. Metal Volume 2. The song Starr sent in for the compilation was "Children of the Storm". After only two albums, Virgin Steele of 1981 and Guardians of the Flame of 1982, Starr left Virgin Steele in 1983 because of musical differences with the band’s front man and other main songwriter David DeFeis.In 1984, Starr started his solo recording career with the album Out of the Darkness, featuring former Riot vocalist Rhett Forrester, members of The Rods and former Rainbow drummer Gary Driscoll. It was released in Europe by Music for Nations and was picked as one of the best albums of the year by the music magazines Kerrang! and Metal Forces.Starr changed the name of his band to Jack Starr's Burning Starr and between 1984 and 1989 he produced albums, both solo and with the band. The music of those albums is classic American eighties heavy metal, a style between Poison and Metallica.In 1989 the band dissolved and Starr joined short-lived bands like Strider and Smoke Stack Lightning.After a break, in 2003, Starr founded a new band called Guardians of the Flame, which released only one album, Under a Savage Sky.In 2006, Starr founded the Jack Starr Blues Band..In the following years, Starr once again assembled a group of musicians for a new incarnation of Burning Starr, which performed at the Magic Circle Festival 2008 and released the album Defiance on the Manowar's label Magic Circle Music in 2009. In 2011 they released Land of the Dead with Limb Music. The albums includes ex-Manowar guest musicians Ross the Boss and David Shankle.The band will play at the 2013 Keep It True festival and record a DVD.

Out of the Darkness is the first solo album by the American guitarist Jack Starr, originally released in 1984 through Passport Records in the US. A 30-year anniversary edition was issued by German label Limb Music in early 2014.The song "False Messiah" was covered by American power metal band Jag Panzer on their Age of Mastery album in 1998.When guitarist JACK STARR left his band Virgin Steele in 1983 it was a shock for everyone, including fans and the press. Virgin Steele had just released "Guardians Of The Flame" - a masterpiece of American heavy metal. But STARR did not want to follow the current keyboard-onerous trend and after his departure he began looking around for suitable musicians for his first solo album which was to comprise more of his preferred heavy, guitar-based music. When "Out Of The Darkness" was released in 1984, it could not be predicted how much influence this album would have on the US dominated heavy metal scene. In the international heavy metal bible of the eighties, the legendary "Metal Forces" magazine, "Out Of The Darkness" was listed as one of the most important heavy metal albums of 1984. Kerrang! (issue 18, 1984) placed it amongst the “20 Fave LPs Of The Year“ and in the Japanese Burrn! magazine the album was in 12th place of the Import Disc charts for weeks! The album made JACK STARR one of the most influential guitarist of US heavy metal and his status has remained so to this day, as could be seen and heard during his exciting appearance at the Keep It True Festival in Germany.Just 30 years after the first release of "Out Of The Darkness" Limb Music has taken upon itself to re-release this valuable part of heavy metal history and to enhance it with bonus material. The album, newly mastered by R. D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Devils Train) contains additional material from different creative periods of JACK STARR. There is, for example, the track "Blue Tears Falling", never before made public, from the unreleased Jack Starr Blues Band album "Take It To The Bank", as well as five instrumental songs from the 1990 album release, "A Minor Disturbance", a work which clearly places the class of the JACK STARR the guitarist in the foreground. The actual tracks of the album, with the fantastic vocals of Rhett Forrester, are stamped by power riffs, thundering drums and a superb mixture of melody and power. It's text book Power Metal with all the hallmarks of the metallic eighties. "Out Of The Darkness" has withstood the test of time in every way and after thirty years it's still capable of making its mark. So in this sense - "Let's Get Crazy Again"!
