Info:

Robin George has worked with many more artists and projects than most realise, and during the ‘80s he built up a name for himself as a guitar player, musician, producer, songwriter and solo artist.Born and raised in Wolverhampton, England, Robin began playing guitar at an early age. A plastic Beatles’ guitar Christmas present from his mom and dad set him on his way when he was eight years old, then his mum, recognising his talent, bought him an acoustic guitar which he later swapped for his first electric guitar, a Watkin’s Rapier 33. He took his guitar to junior school, family parties and at 14 he was asked to join his first band. Robin was expelled from Wolverhampton Boy’s Grammar School, where he was, allegedly, the first person to be expelled for 100 years. When he started his next school it was like a new lease of life; released from the power of the cane he was encouraged to embrace the power of music and became the guitar player in assemblies and school dances. He soon rebelled and was expelled again, however!Robin began College but was invited to tour abroad, so he ditched education without a second thought and became a journey man. His dad, an engineer, told him to get a job and if he lasted a year he would have his full support. He did it by working all day then driving to London at night to play and sing sessions in the legendary Denmark Street Studios. So, for his 21st birthday, his mom and dad bought him his beloved Gibson Les Paul Custom…he had proved himself. After a tour of Denmark, Germany and Belgium, including US Army bases, Robin recorded his first single Too Late, featuring Dave Holland (Judas Priest), Pino Palladino (The Who) and Mo Birch (Culture Club, UB40) for the History album. Robin taught himself to engineer at this time; an influential moment in his career. The History album cover photo was taken by the great Finn Costello and featured as Kerrang’s front cover, issue 52. Finn also took the iconic cover photo for the Dangerous Music album with art and design by the renowned Andie Airfix, who also recently created the artwork for the LovePower and Peace sharing album.

Album:

I still remember listening for the first time "Heartline" on the radio back in 1985, the single from British ROBIN GEORGE, and I was greatly impressed. Taken from his first solo album "Dangerous Music", the LP didn't sold well initially, but after several months the song exploded and become a world-wide hit.Several tours followed, including legs with REO Speedwagon and Uli Jon Roth, and in-between George recording a second album. But sadly, his record label broke and these tapes remained unreleased until this year (recently appeared as Dangerous Music II).Despite its typical mid-eighties sound production - which I love - "Dangerous Music" is much more than a commercial rock&pop / AOR album. The songs are elaborated, with a songwriting and musicianship above the standard.George's imaginative guitar licks (including synth guitar) and the lovely keyboard interplay handled by talented session musicians / arrangers, rise the '80s vibe of the songs into something that still sounds fresh and relevant today.Talking about the musicians used for the record, we have some real stars here; Thin Lizzy genius Phil Lynott playing bass, as well monster Pino Palladino and Phil Soussan (Ozzy, Steve Lukather), drummers Dave Holland (Judas Priest) and Kex Gorin (Magnum), and keyboard players Mark Stanway (Magnum) / Adrian Lee (Mike + The Mechanics).Last but not least, the exquisite Chris Thompson adds background vocals & harmonies. And the songs... all are huge and catchy. Apart from the great "Heartline", just take the punchy pump of "French Kisses" driven by a terrific riff and superb guitar solo, the intriguing "Stolen From My Heart" and its 'oriental' keys, or the sublime AOR of ballad "Don't Turn Away"."Showdown" is another highlight with a kicking melodic hard feel fueled by sharp guitars and heavenly harmonies, while "Shout" is a FM radio ready gem with synths all over.As proof of the raising success of the album at the end of 1985, several extended mixes and 12'' LP were made, typical of the era with artists on the verge of commercial break-through.

Album:

As you would hope for, the songs on “Dangerous Music II” follow the same formula as defined the debut: '80s synth poppy AOR sound plus a successfully adding guitar crunch, along with his distinctive high end vocals. However one thing is certain, with 17 tracks on this CD, this 2nd album should it have been released was going to be huge.If you break this album down, there is a massive 2nd record here, although I personally wouldn’t want to choose the track listing, and then there are possibly 6+ songs already recorded that wouldn't fit on a LP or Cassette, so would form the basis of the 3rd album. This album is the follow-up to Robin George’s hit album ‘Dangerous Music’ and it was meant to be released back in 1986. However his then management company went to market and because of the success of the single ‘Heartline’ sought such high advances that the album was never released. Finally Angel Air release it and thank goodness they did as it is great! As you would expect the musical template follows that of ‘Dangerous Music’ with Robin George taking the 80’s synth pop meets poppy AOR sound and successfully adding guitar crunch, along with his distinctive high end vocals. If you have a copy of ‘Dangerous Music’ in your collection then you need part 2 as well.
