Bio:

Mascot Label Group proudly welcomes Vandenberg's MoonKings. The Dutch rock group will join, amongst others, Joe Bonamassa, Volbeat, Gov't Mule, Beth Hart, Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society and Kenny Wayne Shepherd on the Rotterdam, Holland based record company's roster.Mascot Label Group CEO Ed van Zijl is over the moon with signing Adrian Vandenberg's brand new band: "Adrian is one of the most outstanding rock guitarists in the world. I have always followed his career and needless to say we are thrilled to finally be working with him. Vandenberg's MoonKings are a fresh and hard rocking new band that will surely make an impact in the scene."Adrian Vandenberg rose to worldwide prominence with Vandenberg, the melodic rock band that hit internationally with the powerful ballad ‘Burning Heart’. Adrian solidified his status as one of the most talented rock guitarists around when he joined David Coverdale in the hard rock super group Whitesnake, co-writing many of its Billboard Hot 100-hits, like ‘The Deeper The Love’ and ‘Now You’re Gone’, and supplying the legendary guitar solo to ‘Here I Go Again’. After leaving Whitesnake, Adrian concentrated on his successful career as an artist, exhibiting his paintings in prestigious galleries all over Europe. Music however was always prevalent on his mind, so as soon as he had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented young musicians, he started creating new music. Vandenberg's MoonKings are Adrian Vandenberg (guitar), Jan Hoving (vocals), Sem Christoffel (bass) and Mart Nijen Es (drums). The band is currently in the studio recording their debut album.“We are proud to have joined the Mascot family. It’s a great company with fantastic people that love the music they work with”, Adrian Vandenberg enthuses. “The band is raring to go and prove itself to the world, so we’re anxious to finish the album and get it out there and I’m very happy that Ed van Zijl is giving us the opportunity to do so.”Vandenberg's MoonKing's debut album will be released on 24 February, 2014, after which the band will tour extensively throughout Europe… and beyond.

Album:

After many years of absence (too many), former Whitesnake guitarist Adrian Vandenberg finally returned into the scene with a bang: his brand new band VANDENBERG'S MOONKINGS, and its self-titled debut. "Vandenberg's Moonkings" was released in Japan in a Deluxe, Limited Edition on high quality SHM-CD featuring an exclusive bonus track. What is good with Adrian Vandenberg beside his passionate guitar playing, is that he's a reliable musician loyal to his roots and a trustworthy songwriter, but he's also a visionary of its own kind, and with this new album he produced exactly the style of music we all hope / imagined secretly and we expected: strong, melodic, organic and real rock music focused on the traditional Hard Rocking spirit yet slightly modernized, but most of all untarnished and uplifting by its genuine juvenile energy. It's true that the sudden break up of Adrian's short-lived affair Manic Eden (with the great Rudy Sarzo / Tommy Aldridge rhythmic pair and singer Ron Young) had left us with a bitter taste and a unfinished business feeling, but with this first album with the Moonkings the things seems to takes another time, their natural order, like if the stars and the planets were again perfectly in conjunction.Indeed, it feels while listening to this album what is a like if we lived for once in a perfect universe, the music flows with a pristine fluidity and at the same time exciting but yet familiar, surprising but still comfortable by using many traditional and well known elements as the groovy Hendrix riffage of “Leeches”, the Zeppelin vibes of “Close To You” / “Leave This Town”, or the beautiful acoustic intro for “Out Of Reach”.Of course the Whitesnake's feel it's in Adrian's veins, as heard on the breathy Coverdalian “One Step Behind” and the over the top “Steal Away”, but also the American modern feel of “Breathing” completed with subtle strings layers and even the Tyketto flavor present at the beginning of “Feel It” .The sound on the recording is quite flawless, vintage warm but still crisp and delicate, a real studio mastery in the proud method of the grand influential artists and far from amateurish of many cheap releases, with each instrument completely interleaved with each other, all enhanced by keen discreet backing vocals.Adrian Vandenberg holds a true savoir-faire in crafting those songs, brilliant rockers in a real classic (in every sense of the meaning) album canvas. The final surprise is the Whitesnake cover of “Sailing Ships” presented in a new arrangement, performed in a new fashion right in between the original version and the acoustic performance as shown in 'Starkers In Tokyo'. And yes, we have the one and only David Coverdale on guest vocals in fine form providing his best signature pipes for this superb cut once written by Vandenberg for '89s 'Slip Of The Tongue'. A killer tribute to their mutual past. The Japanese bonus track is an 'Extended Version' of the killer “Line Of Fire”, and for extended the meaning is a longer coda with an extra solo part and the band jammin' full of fire. The prevailing thought is that Classic Hard Rock is an old recipe, an apathetic style that will not possess genius or new idea, well my friends, it is well and truly wrong and this album is the obvious and tangible evidence of fact With the aforementioned highlights and great rockers such as “Lust And Lies”, “Nothing Touches” or “Line Of Fire”, Adrian Vandenberg and his bunch are performing with glory a new fresh and updated prototype of this Rock magic style that should be included in the DNA of every Hard Rock fan.

Album:

Vandenberg’s Moonkings, it is fair to say, surprised everybody back in 2014.Not least the fact that Adrian Vandenberg had come back to music at all, after spending a good few years out of the limelight and committing to his painting. Then there was the fact that the album was really good and the band – make no mistake this is absolutely a band – sounded so accomplished. All of which is fine, but does present its own set of problems. The second album (and really, there simply had to be a second one) now comes with a weight of expectation that the first did not.But one listen to “Tightrope”, the opening song on the album simply titled “MK II”, should cheerfully put all that to bed. Vandenberg’s Moonkings are back and they sound just right. It slinks in, and yes, it sounds a bit like Whitesnake, but it struts, it preens and it benefits from the wonderful rhythm section of Sem Christoffel and drummer Mart Nijen Es (Vandenberg has called them the best he’s ever worked with and it’s easy to see why). As much as the guitarist is a wonderful player, it is those two that drive the record forward. The chorus of the song “gotta get going and don’t look back” might just represent a metaphor for the new band, because certainly this has a lot to offer in terms of modern, yet classic, rock.“Reputation” drips with lust and has an air of Inglorious about it, while “Angel In Black” starts off as a bluesy thing and absolutely bursts into life on the back of a slammer of a chorus, as Jan Holving on vocals finds his best hip-shaking form. “The Fire”, which follows, sees him channel some inner Robert Plant, as the Led Zep stylings mix with a rare form of confidence as the band hits top gear.“Walk Away” is a more acoustic based affair, but shows its ambition with some gorgeous strings, while the sassy “All Or Nothing” shows Vandenberg’s outright dexterity as a player, but his gift is that there is nothing cold about this, “MK II” is a warm, welcoming collection.12 songs is a lot for a modern album, but this is evidently a band with plenty to say. “What Doesn’t Kill You” has a touch of Bad Company about it, while “Ready For The Taking” explores the blues on the back of a massive hook. The use of keyboards in “New Day” add depth to the unashamed 80’s style groove. “Hard Way” has a sense of defiance about it, and you do wonder if the lyrics – “keep on running cos I can’t stand still” amongst others – refer to Vandenberg himself.Fantastic drums add urgency to “Love Runs Out” and the last song “If You Can’t Handle The Heat” settles into the sort of sonics that Thunder might manage. It is the very last sound on the album that is interesting, though. Just the guitar of Adrian Vandenberg on its own. This is his band, it seems to say, and he is very much at centre stage. He didn’t need to make his mark again, but on “MK II”, his Moonkings have established that they are one of the finest hard rock bands there is.

Album:

VANDENBERG'S MOONKINGS return with their new record, "Rugged And Unplugged" which will be released on November 23 via Mascot Records, and we are presenting it in exclusive at 0dayrox."Rugged And Unplugged" is a beautifully stripped back acoustic album which features songs from across Adrian Vandenberg's career. From his first band TEASER as a 20-year-old, he has always used an acoustic guitar in his recordings, which along with the electric guitar creates the light and shade dynamic that is the cornerstone to all of his records."For me, the sign of whether a song is good or not, is whether it still stands up when it's completely stripped down to the bare essence of it," says Vandenberg. He continues: "What I find with acoustic versions of songs you already know is that they can touch you in a different way than the full band and even orchestral versions. You don't get 'impressed' by big guitars, drums and even orchestras. As a performer, you can't hide behind all that, so what's left is the emotional content of the performance and the actual song."This project created the opportunity to strip down the big orchestral arrangements on songs such as "What Doesn't Kill You" and "Breathing" to just Vandenberg on acoustic guitar and the voice of Jan Hoving. Adrian's 1983 hit "Burning Heart" gets a stunning reworking, and it's one of my favorites here."My favorite singers ever since my teens have always been guys like Paul Rodgers and David Coverdale," Vandenberg says. "Since I wrote this song in 1981, I've always pictured it sung by a singer with such a tone of voice and vocal abilities. Jan is absolutely such a singer as you can hear.""One Step Behind" has a graceful warmth and "Walk Away" feels both intimate and anthemic.Originally from WHITESNAKE's 1989 album Slip Of The Tongue, "Sailing Ships" has a delicate beauty to it that makes the hairs on your arm stand up, and has become a favorite and regular in the MOONKINGS live shows."Out Of Reach" is the only song that features drums, bass and violins and has a warm cascading elegance. The album closes with a new song, the lovely instrumental "Sundown". Adrian says: "It was one of those beautiful early evenings in the late summer, the light turning pink, it was quiet and I was doodling away on my acoustic guitar. The melody that pretty much rolled off of my fingers really matched the vibe of that moment so I decided to record it and end the album with it. It felt like a very natural thing to do."Like the two MOONKINGS albums, "MoonKings" (2014) and "MK II" (2017), "Rugged And Unplugged" was produced by Adrian Vandenberg himself. It was recorded between Vandenberg's home studio and Jan Hoving's farm which gives it the relaxed, intimate and natural feel, away from the clinical studio environment. It's Vandenberg and Hoving doing what they do and love the most, playing music straight from the hear
