Album:

If you relish red-blooded hard rock with a southern-fried swagger, prepare to have your ears steamrolled like an 18-wheeler flattening an armadillo. It has been said that the devil has all the good music. If so, then this new album from Trucker Diablo is surely populating Ol’ Scratch’s iPod.Songs of Iron begs to be max-cranked at a Texas monster truck rally with a cold beer in one hand and a corndog in the other. It’s whiskey-whipped, sweat-soaked, testosterone-torqued, hot-rodding down the highway, long live rock ‘n’ roll kind of music. In other words, high-octane fun designed to be played loud and proud and absent lofty pretensions. You could argue the band’s sound is simplistic and you would not be wrong. Big guitars, copious power chords, sizzling solos, crunchy rhythms, catchy choruses … it’s all present, slathered in southern sleaze like barbecue sauce on a spitted pig. But that is exactly the point. Sometimes you don’t reinvent the wheel; you just make a damn good wheel. If you don’t hear a souped-up Skynyrd blended with Black Label Society and Blackstone Cherry, then you’re not paying attention. Sure, all the songs sort of sound the same, but when they sound this good, who gives a Dixie damn? A man having a threesome with identical twin supermodels does not whine that both girls look alike, he just lays back and enjoys himself. Same principle applies here. The band is at their best when roaming in radio-friendly territory. To many hard rock fans, “radio-friendly” is a dirty word, akin to saying “motherf*cker” in the midst of Sunday Morning Mass. But in Trucker Diablo’s defense, they manage to do radio-friendly without sacrificing their balls in the process. Even their power ballad, “Maybe You’re the One,” boasts a heavier vibe than, say, Firehouse or Winger.Elsewhere, “Red Light On” roars out of the gate like a top fuel dragster, hammering it home with a heavy-hitting groove and body-moving swagger. “Bulldozer” is a big bruiser of a southern-metal anthem packed with power and clenched-fist aggression, as evidenced by lyrics like, “You’re gonna light ‘em up / and I’m gonna knock them down.” The most ‘80s-esque song title award goes to “I Wanna Party With You” and no surprise, there is a hint or two of hair metal lacing the track. You can easily picture this tune being sung by Poison or Cinderella, bands that excelled at merging bad boy blues with pretty boy pop-metal.Though hailing from Northern Ireland, Trucker Diablo could not sound more American if they chugged a keg of Budweiser, gluttonized a bucket of extra-crispy fried chicken, and topped it off with shots of Jack Daniels while sitting on the rusty tailgate of a mud-spattered Ford Bronco with oversized tires and wearing a rebel flag bandana. Songs of Iron sports some bare knuckle, hard-brawling muscle and will kick your ass in all the right ways.

Album:

Hold on to your cold beers and denim-covered butts, ladies and gents because Trucker Diablo is back and they are back in grand style. Almost exactly a year after the band took an indefinite hiatus for personal reasons, the guys (minus bass-player Glenn Harrison who decided not to step on board again) have released the Pledge-funded masterpiece Rise Above The Noise. Did I say masterpiece? Well, I only said that because I mean it.Simply delivering more of what fans already love about the band would have been good enough, but Trucker Diablo gives something above and beyond that on Rise Above The Noise. To be sure, the band still plays its own unmistakable blend of chest-pounding, party-starting hard rock, mixed with a sip of southern rock, and a twist or two of Thin Lizzy. But added to all that satisfying rumble, flash, and lightning is a dark undertow of loss, sadness and longing that gives the music a deeper resonance and a keener emotional edge. There were shades of this on their knockout album Songs of Iron as well (“Maybe You’re The One” being one outstanding example), but it’s brought out and realized more fully on this release. The first two tracks herald Trucker Diablo’s return in spectacular fashion. “Fight Life” rocks out at full tilt with the guitars ripping and roaring, Tom Harte’s voice lighting the fuse, and newcomer Jim McGurk’s bass reverberating deep in your chest. Then, “Party Like They Started The End Of The World” revs the Trucker engine to the max, with a barrage of killer drums and brawny riffs that just about knocked the breath out of me.“Somebody Save Me” gives a taste of what Trucker Diablo can do when they decide to cut closer to the bone: Harte’s vocals are full of pain and desperation here, while the music gives the tune the grit and strength it needs. The band then cranks things up with the rousing “We Stand Strong” – a tune that has a terrific 80s rocker feel, fused with a genuine intensity and urgency that really kicks it into orbit.Trucker_Diablo_2015.After getting your blood pumping and your heart racing, Trucker Diablo proceeds to rip your heart out with the masterful power-ballad “Where Angels Fly”. Keith Weir from The Quireboys plays some gorgeous piano here, and Harte’s voice is so good I got goosebumps partway through the first verse. Yes, this tune made me cry and I’m not ashamed to say it. It’s a song that allows the band to show just how good they are at blending deeply emotional lyrics and vocals with the hard-rocking force of their music. The second half of the album is just as strong as the first. “Girl In A Photograph” features the band in full flight with a bit of Thin Lizzy beneath their wings (that’s always a good thing); while “Take Me To The River” conjures some darker magic with a swampy-bluesy southern rock feel, shifting into a blast of sweaty rock’n’roll heat.“Murder Ballad” is another slice of power-ballad perfection, telling an achingly beautiful story where the tenderness and passion of the vocals are perfectly matched by the guitar work. Just brilliant stuff from the band here. The excellent “Sun Deprives The Day” brings a slightly menacing vibe, a heavy groove, and some of the most haunting lyrics on the album: “Buried bones and dust in the wind / No absolution for all who’ve sinned”. All this before final track “Don’t Cry” brings a ray of light, a glimpse of hope, and the possibility of redemption. With its stirring melody, harmony vocals, outstanding guitar work, and the satisfying weight provided by the drums and bass it is indeed the perfect track to close out the album.Rise Above The Noise is a superb release from a band that I was afraid I’d never hear from again. All I can say after listening to this is: Please, guys – don’t go away again.

Album:

Trucker Diablo’s brand new album ‘Fighting For Everything’ (released to Pledge-campaign supporters on September 15th) is a high-octane, grade A, flawlessly crafted rock and roll release. It is so damn good it has immediately rocketed onto my list of Favourite Albums of the Year. I mean, seriously, how good is this band? So good that in an alternate, rock’n’roll-powered universe they are playing stadiums, rolling in money, and bathing in their choice of beer. In our universe I guess they’ll have to make do with the adulation of old and new Trucker-fans across the world.Did I say this album is flawless? That’s because I mean it. Guitars, vocals, drums, bass, music, lyrics, melodies…everything on ‘Fighting For Everything’ is world-class. This album is so full of brawny, stick-to-your-ribs, shake-your-spine goodness that I have not stopped listening to it since downloading it this morning. (It’s evening when I write this, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed an album the same day I received it, but hot DAMN, this album will not wait.Trucker Diablo slams the pedal to the floor right away with the rousing rock’n’roll anthem ‘Born Trucker’, and then soar right into the stratosphere with ‘We Will Conquer All’ – a tune that feels like a riff-fuelled battle hymn, and made me sing along on the first play-through.From that point on, the band is just ON. I’ve been in love with Trucker Diablo since I listened to their album ‘Songs of Iron’ – one of my all-time favourite rock albums – but I think this release tops that one. The band has just, somehow, vaulted themselves to another level of awesome. On ‘Drown in the Fire’ they bring down the house (my house, your house, and probably the neighbours’ houses, too) with a southern rock infused belter of a tune that runs hot on attitude, swagger, and massive riffs. ‘Voodoo II’ brings a darker, wicked-rocking vibe and a slamming rhythm, while ‘Let’s Just Ride’ feels like the awesome sequel to ‘Drive’ (from ‘Songs of Iron’) that I’ve been craving. The title track ‘Fighting For Everything’ is another bruising, bass-thumping, drum-slamming rocker of a tune that will lift your spirits and make you bang your head at the same time. The guys slow down a bit to bring out the passionate power of ‘Over The Wall’ – a track that simply gives me goosebumps. After warming the listener up with all that, Trucker Diablo cracks open two stunning tunes: ‘Detroit Steel’ is just a wonder, bristling and throbbing with massive guitars and killer vocals from Tom Harte, while ‘Die For You’ might just be the best tune on this whole album. HOLY SMOKES does this thing rock! Guitars so heavy and hard they’ll set off the seismographs, and just blistering hot from start to finish. The band throws out another defiant and gob-smackingly good tune with ‘Pocket Full of Changes’ and then, well, then… Then they bring out the strings and the acoustic guitars and deliver a heartbreaking, exquisite ballad about love and loss and grief called ‘When The Waters Rise’.‘Fighting For Everything’ is a master-class in rock and roll from a band that just keeps blowing my mind with their music. If you’ve got a taste for hard, heavy rock and roll that isn’t afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve while knocking your socks off, then Trucker Diablo and this album is for you.

Album:

Th press release tells a familiar story the world over “New album, Tail End of a Hurricane, is released on 7th May 2021, and is preceded by the feel good tune ‘Rock Kids of the 80s’ on 5th March. Rock Kids was recorded late 2019, with a view to getting the album out early 2020…… but as we know, the world changed!”With an album every two years since 2011’s ‘Devil Rhythm’ Northern Ireland’s Trucker Diablo has been releasing quality Hard Rock for a decade now, all with a punk infused Hard Rocking style that never fails to deliver.Opening with the road anthem ‘BTKOR’ (Big Truck Keeps on Rollin!) I’m glad to report that despite a covid delay in the delivery of this one the dirty rhythms that set these guys apart from the pack are all present and correct! Even covid it seems can’t keep this Big Truck from rolling…Indeed the opening of this album might be the most impressive yet with that crunching opener followed by the resilience anthem ‘I Am Still Alive’ that takes a look at Covid and how we’re going to come out the other side. Then comes the single ‘Rock Kids of the 80’s’ is a huge uplifting anthem that namechecks everyone from Rick Springfield to Crue and Billy Idol. It all makes a rather welcome and impressive return. The ten tracks that follow all have their own merits and the crunching guitars and soaring choruses keep on coming, Other highlights have to include the smooth, feel-good catchiness of ‘Set the Night on Fire’, the great rolling groove of title track ‘Tail End of the Hurricane’, and the Punky energy of ‘Insects.’ Add to that the classy melodic rock of ‘The Edge of Tonight’, the wonderful storytelling about life choices that is ‘Woodstock to Vietnam’ and the epic guitar dominated closer ‘Bury the Ocean’ and you have a classic in the making and arguably Trucker Diablos best yet! (though competition is fierce).Take a long ride on the Big Truck and crank up the volume!

Album:

”Social Hand Grenade” is the ‘Stadium Sized’ new album from TRUCKER DIABLO. Recorded over the course of 2 years, at Manor Park Studios, this album charges at you headlong, pumping rush of metal, hard rock and general heft.If it were a car, it’d be a gas-guzzling American hot rod, all chrome, firebird logos and illegal exhausts, just like the full-on live Trucker Diablo experience. Indeed, for the most part, ”Social Hand Grenade” captures the band as a lively sonic experience. From the one-man office mosh pit crunch of “Kill The Lights“, to the closer “What I See” and the juggernaut heft of “Dig“!, this 10-tracker rocks with tons of groove. and then we find ”California on the Run”, a commercial, melodic new TRUCKER DIABLO side. This album clocks in under 45 minutes, so you can get your breath back before you hit repeat.
