Album:

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, Beth Hart, has never sounded better (musically and spiritually) that she does on her new album, Better Than Home. What makes Better Than Home quite possibly her greatest album is that it is her most introspective work ever, because it goes to the depth of her soul, revealing terrible pain in her past, family issues and personal demons as well as her coming to grips with them and using that knowledge to find the real beauty in her life. This is an incredibly moving, self written and composed, album that’s going to reach people on a very personal level, because a one-of-a-kind artist found the perfect formula for exposing her very private inner voice and empowering it with her legendary outer voice.Better Than Home will be released as a limited digipack CD or red vinyl LP on April 13, 2015 in Europe and April 14, 2015 in the US, Canada and the rest of the world.

Album:

Beth Hart’s previous album Better Than Home quickly secured itself as one of my favourite albums of 2015 and I’d argue it’s her definitive album. The one where you point newcomers to. The musical and lyrical direction went everywhere but managed to retain a sense of consistency. Mainly Hart’s voice anchoring everything together. If you look at her back catalogue, albums have been giving their own breathing space of a couple of years but this time with Fire On the Floor, she’s jumped straight in and delivered another set of meaty songs. Seriously, there’s not a weak song here.Beth Hart - Fire On the FloorIt’s when you hit play for the first time and the smooth jazz of the aptly-titled “Jazz Man” starts; you’re just waiting for that voice to kick in. The voice which has the power to make my neck hair stand to attention just thinking about it. Much like its predecessor, Fire On the Floor strays into various genres and you can hear in the composition how each song could be played live (pretty much no two nights at a Beth Hart show has a carbon copy setlist).Whilst there is jazz, salsa, grunge and most importantly – blues – the styles of the songs come second. Up front and centre is Beth and her voice. It’s why you’ve bought the album, at the end of the day. A once-in-a-generation voice, it’s what keeps me coming back, album after album. Whether it’s soulful blues or her characteristic gravelly screams, it has the power to captivate you, as it has done since the woman made her first foray into music several years ago. There’s also a playful sultriness in songs like “Coca Cola” and “Let’s Get Together”, her voice recognisable but completely different from the norm. There’s a lighter mood on Fire On the Floor compared to its predecessor which deals with dark issues and the recording process brought all that to the fore. Here, we have an album full of optimism and care-free moments. It’s not all upbeat numbers as there’s traditional sombre corners such as “Woman You’ve Been Dreaming Of” but even there, the tone isn’t quite so heavy. Essentially, it’s grittier and reflects the character of the songstress herself; confident in her ability and happy to do her own thing, regardless of the opinions of others. There’s no departure but the upbeat nature makes a brilliant antithesis to its predecessor, even reflected in the album art. You could have packaged these together and made a double album; a dark side and a light side. Musically, they’re close enough you could justify it.However, Hart may be the star of the show but she’s not done a Prince and recorded everything herself. With a brilliant studio band behind her, it’s no surprise that they’ve knocked out sixteen songs in three days (twelve feature on the album). You have guitars from Michael Landau and Waddy Wachtel, knocking out riffs and songs like “Fat Man” sound like a bluesier version of Soundgarden and you have the pulsating tones hiding underneath the piano during the dark “Love is a Lie”. Drummer Rick Marotta gets the chance to stake his claim here as well as on the salsa-infused and funky “Let’s Get Together”, a song you can’t help but move along to.Meanwhile, you have Jim Cox on piano delivering some of the best, most haunting piano melodies you’ll hear and it’s on the title track that you could argue the keys and the bluesy slide guitar sends shivers down your spine rather than Hart’s voice. The other shining moment he features is during album closer “No Place Like Home”.It’s fairly reasonable to say Beth Hart had a hell of a job on her hands to follow Better Than Home. Fortunately, she’s managed to pull it off with aplomb and has made another incredible album.

His extensive guitar collection is one of the best in the world.

Beth Hart (born January 24, 1972) is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California, United States. She rose to fame with the release of her 1999 single "LA Song (Out of This Town)" from her second album Screamin' for My Supper. Hart's release Bang Bang Boom Boom rose to number 3 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart, as well as the album Don't Explain by Hart and Bonamassa. The album Seesaw rose to number 8 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart. Hart has had two number 1 singles in Denmark "As Good As It Gets" and "Learning To Live", as well a platinum selling album, Leave The Light On.Hart's first album with Bonamassa, Don't Explain, went gold in The Netherlands. In 2014 Hart was nominated for a Grammy Award for Seesaw and she was also nominated for a Blues Music Award in the category 'Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist'.

Album:

Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa fans need wait only a little while longer for their third studio album Black Coffee. For those who have followed the grammy nominated duo for Don’t Explain and Seesaw, Black Coffee’s highly anticipated January 26th release date will seem much farther away than a number of days.Multiple articles could be written on the first song, “Give It Everything You Got,” alone. It opens with Bonamassa’s distorted heavy rock guitar that wails with a powerful and confident intensity. This is immediately followed by a drum fill that introduces a trumpet section. Both of these sections match Bonamassa’s intensity, and yet do not step on the guitar line in any way. The three high energy lines work together, excite the listener, and manage to never overwhelm. All of this takes place in the few seconds before Hart’s powerhouse vocals enter and define the sound that is to come. It is immediately clear that Hart’s voice is not ordinary. There are so many wonderful mixes of Janis Joplin and Nina Simone in her warm, rich, colorful voice, and yet even comparisons to great singers do not accurately portray the unique quality. Hart’s voice is of course technically impressive. Her range and skill level are notable, but the tones that she is able to achieve, both soft and gritty, are all her own.“Give It Everything You Got” breaks from these haunting vocals to a very impressive and still supportive guitar bridge. The low range, thick, distorted guitar rests gracefully on top of a grooving and beautiful horn section. Bonamassa’s soul comes through every quick and skillfully played note in this section.“Lullaby of the Leaves” is a surprising, exciting, but not jarring change in this album. Of all of the unique covers on this album, this song in particular is imagined by the duo in an unimaginable way. The creativity brought into this well known tune is done so purely, that one could think that Hart and Bonamassa had only ever read the sheet music to the tune before playing. Even so, the song remains true to the most beautiful elements of the song. It does not sacrifice the songwriting for the sake of arbitrary twists. Any decoration or melodic change is done deliberately and with purpose. Bonamassa opens up the bridge with the guitar, and raises the intensity in such a natural way. He gives the song the push you didn’t know it needed, and takes it to another place. Not a single song on Black Coffee is a let down. There is something special and worth listening to on every single track. The way that “Joy” stands out among so many strong songs is a great feat. The opening lines are both rough and with a strong sense of captivating control. Despite the high energy, the level of control makes the listener feel at ease and excited simultaneously. As satisfied as you can be by the groove alone, Bonamassa comes in with Hendrix like phrasing and sensibility, giving the listener an even greater sense of ease that is made possible by nostalgic guitar lines. The title track “Black Coffee” is a masterpiece in which Hart wows a little bit more with each passing phrase. The sparsity of certain melodic lines make the next coming line all the more anticipated, and Hart doesn’t disappoint. It’s thrilling to hear effortless vocal runs with believable grit and emotion. Hart could say “Black Coffee” over and over again in the same exact way and it would be exciting each time, however Hart’s slight variations serve to further a narrative more and more with just two words.Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa have created an album in which all of the parts are completely working together and are in service of one another. Even if they weren’t masters of their particular crafts in the way that they are, the album would be a hit from sheer collaboration and communication alone. Separately these musicians are gifted, but together, they really make something special.

Album:

The nine track album highlights the incredible musical spectrum that Led Zeppelin operated in, from powerhouse rock to psychedelia, folk, jazz, prog, blues, funk, soul and beyond. Rumors about the album had been circulating for a few years. At the helm was super-producer Rob Cavallo and engineer Doug McKean, who assembled an A-list team of musicians. All that was left was the final piece of the puzzle… the voice.Things clicked into place when Cavallo was producing Beth's previous album, War In My Mind, and she did an impromptu version of "Whole Lotta Love" in the control room during the session

Album:

New generation Blues cognoscenti and Grammy nominated singer for all seasons, Beth Hart’s latest album sees her adding some big hitters to the guest roll call while MK Bennett marvels. There is an edge of the Blues that regularly intersects with Rock, unsurprisingly, given that the basic musical components of both are the same. Still, the trick in doing it well, keeping within the long since written and forgotten book of rules, often involves an outside source, an affiliated guest, another player with common ground, common interests, and sometimes someone who is just really good at what they do, or ideally all of these things. Modern Blues albums can, on occasion, come across as market research, too much gloss, not enough sandpaper. Beth Hart seems to have little care for marketing, purists, or anything else likely to keep lesser people worried. Once you have out an album of Led Zeppelin covers and have committed to tape your interpretation of twelve or so variants on Rocks’ greatest ever singer, you have probably lost the concern others have about how you sound.Everything here rightfully revolves around the voice, that huge room-filling lung collapsing sound she makes, from a whisper to a scream, a murmur to a sigh. At this point in her career, her talent is not in dispute, so we judge the songs within the context of the voice and see what beauty we might find in the details.Savior With A Razor is track one, with Slash guesting. This is clever, Slash being a megastar who made his name primarily in Rock and Metal, but his playing, from the string bends to the scales, has always been Blues-based, and he sounds right at home here, an upbeat standard blues with a gorgeous drawn out chorus and Slash dropping Wah Wah solo’s wherever there isn’t a verse, it is an excellent opener, modern but traditional. Suga N My Bowl features the wonderful Eric Gales, a more precise Blues technician than Slash, though still with a ton of heart in his playing, a lovely old-school riff kicks it off before Beth sings, reminiscent of Free, I’ll be surprised if the lyrics were about anything other than you thought they were. Another great chorus too, all hooks and big chords, as she effortlessly moves from low to high in a heartbeat.Never Underestimate A Gal proves that a great singer turns a song. Musically, it is The Devil Went Down To Georgia via a French bar band, while Beth melts a German cowboy blues vocal into a work of vocal brilliance. Though it lacks a fiddle solo, there is a ton of whistling. Bravo, it is as fun as it sounds. Drunk On Valentine is a Jazz-infused slow walk in the park, a sultry ballad like Ella used to make. Despite knowing she is throwing down with the true greats here, Beth is not on a tightrope; she is swinging for the metaphorical fences, confidence on 11, talent on 12. The piano is up front and centre, supporting the vocal, occasionally enhancing but in a good place.Wanna Be Big Bad Johnny Cash starts as it intends to go, a big ol’ country boy wearing JC’s clothes and chord progressions, easy on the eye and ear, it will go down a storm anywhere it is played live, the theme from an imaginary Long Ryders song, and the last pure perfect note she holds is a shiversome thing. Wonderful World is the first acoustic song, which she has already sung the living shit out of before the first chorus, it is a beautiful song with a gorgeous arrangement, one of many performances deserving of a Grammy or similar gong.Little Heartbreak Girl, Tom Petty via Let It Be era Beatles is the centrepiece, the heartbeat of this thing. It’s an emotional narrative, just enough story to convince you it’s fiction but there’s too much truth here, you can hear it in every tremble, every lick, this means something. And her wonderful band, as with everything else here, play the best they can be, subtle, driving, quiet like The Heartbreakers that were once Tom’s…Don’t Call The Police sounds like the Big Rock Song in a modern musical, a stunning breathy vocal to match the serious drama of the music because …Don’t Call The Police (“If you wanna live another day”) is a different kind of blues in an unchanged world. She sounds devastated and defiant in equal measure, an absolute tour de force. You Still Got Me itself is an old-school soul ballad in the style of Otis Redding, a future wedding song for people who pay attention to the words, a tearjerker in a good way, redemption for the broken, a song about waiting for someone to be good to you. Pimp Like That is not, at least not in the same way. Similar to …Don’t Call The Police, but the flip side to that is more of a fantasy tale of a gambler, just as dramatic but more narrative, more story than truth, though there are specific truths there too. Machine Gun Vibrato seems to be a self-mocking song about not taking things too seriously, an atmospheric rocker that gives her plenty of chance to prove the lyrics true. It would have fitted nicely on the From Dusk Til Dawn soundtrack. From the cover art on down, the whole thing is distilled class, a perfectly executed and beautiful sounding collection of excellence. This voice of hers, this God-given instrument of wonder, may stay with you for a good while longer than expected, and its grace may soothe you for some time to come.

Album:

Grammy-nominated powerhouse singer-songwriter Beth Hart is opening a new chapter with the release of a special deluxe edition of her critically acclaimed 2024 album You Still Got Me. The expanded version arrives June 17 via Provogue and features six additional tracks, including previously unavailable songs and extended versions. The deluxe edition adds new depth to the original album, including extended versions of standout tracks like “Savior With A Razor”, featuring the unmistakable guitar work of Slash, alongside extended cuts of “Wonderful World”, “Wanna Be Big Bad Johnny Cash”, and “Don’t Call The Police.” New additions such as “Stuff For You” showcase Hart’s signature sultry groove and emotional intensity.New generation Blues cognoscenti and Grammy nominated singer for all seasons, Beth Hart’s latest album sees her adding some big hitters to the guest roll call while MK Bennett marvels.
