Mantis is an original Melodic Rock/Hard Rock/Metal band that was active from 1978 -1985 1991-1992.Reformed 2016 / signed rec contract w/ P.M.E. Records.MANTIS became the brainchild of songwriters Steven Cermanski and Ira Sherman in 1979. Forging ahead,they recruited musicians that would put forth their musical expressions. The original line up had Tewha Yang on Drums and Martin Wtiak on Keys and Vocals. Wtiak also contributed to the bands song writing. Tewha Yang left the band after only a year and was replaced by long time friend to Steven Cermanski-Jimmy Elia. 1981 both drummer and original member Martin Witiak left the group. Witiak could not be replaced , so Mantis decided to stay a 4 piece. The bands most popular line up consisted of Steven Cermanski on lead vocals, Ira Sherman Guitar and vocals, John Bateman Bass and vocals and Drummer Michael Natalini. Mantis recorded their first 45rpm which was released by DDA records out of Norristown. The single"Forever With You" is a beautiful ballad that combines lyrical content into strong harmonies within a flowing rhythm. B-side, "Love From the Heart" is a hard, driving tune with intricate guitar work and pulsating Bass and Drums. The band combines the hard "British Rock" sound of the seventies with the new brash style of the eighties "Heavy Metal". The band toured the east coast from 1982-1985 gaining a legion of fans. In 1985 Natalini would be recruited to drum with Teeze/Roughhouse. 1988 Roughhouse was signed by Tommy Mottola for CBS records and the album was produced by Max Norman. 1985 MANTIS split up. MANTIS reformed with drummer Tom Tate in 1991-1992 touring and recording. In 2016 lost tapes of the 1992 recording sessions were found and are currently being mixed and mastered @ Retro City Studios by Engineer Joe Boldizar leaving the original recorded performances intact. MANTIS will be releasing this material in 2016.
