After years of silence, former Vains Of Jenna frontman Lizzy DeVine has returned!DeVine has teamed up with fellow Swede Mats Wernerson (bass), and Norwegian rockers Eiliv Sagrusten (drums) and Kristian Nygaard Solhaug (lead guitar), to form The Cruel Intentions. The brand new group has just released a video for their first single "Borderline Crazy", which was mixed at LaneyLand Studios by the legendary Chris Laney, who also added backing vocals and percussion to the track. In March 2010 DeVine announced his departure from Vains Of Jenna by saying, "The last 5 years with this band has been the best years of my life. It's with a tear in my eye, but a whole lot of love and respect for the band, manager, endorsers and fans all over the world, I announce that I'm no longer the lead singer/front man of Vains Of Jenna. It's been a crazy ride, and I've loved every second of it. But now I must move on and let the band grow. I've done more with this band than I could ever have dreamed of but now it's time for new adventures! I love all of you." Together Vains Of Jenna and DeVine were the first band signed to Jackass star Bam Margera's Filthy Note record label, and in the process released two well received full-length albums. 'Lit Up/Let Down' was voted the 16th best album of 2006 in the inaugural Sleaze Roxx Reader's Poll and 2009's follow-up, the Brent Woods (Wildside) produced 'The Art Of telling Lies', fared even better by reaching #9.

Swedish sleaze rockers The Cruel Intentions have released a video for their new song “Sick Adrenaline” which was mixed by Eclipse and W.E.T. frontman and Ammunition and Nordic Union guitarist Erik Mårtensson.Speaking exclusively to Sleaze Roxx, bassist Mats Wernerson and former Vains of Jenna singer Lizzy DeVine discussed the new single and the band’s plans for the future. In terms of what the song “Sick Adrenaline” is about, DeVine stated: “If you listen to the lyrics, it sounds like it’s about a stressed out paranoid substance abuser, which it could be. I’ve ran across quite a few in my days. But it’s really about the feeling we all have at times when your skin is crawling and your brain feels like it’s about to pop. When you feel like you’re in a bubble and the world around you isn’t real. Or that feeling of panic and the sense that you can’t escape your own thoughts. If “Borderline Crazy” was about the fun side of partying, “Sick Adrenaline” is the opposite. Everything has a dark side.”With respect to how The Cruel Intentions ended up working with Mårtensson for “Sick Adrenaline”, Wernerson advised: “The song was supposed to be mixed by Chris Laney like all our other releases but he was out touring with Pretty Maids. I sent Erik an email with the demo of “Sick Adrenaline” and we started talking and ended up with him mixing the song. I’m very pleased with the results, Erik is a great guy and a serious sound nerd so it was so much fun working with him.The Cruel Intentions have released a number of singles rather than an EP or album in the last two years including the singles “Stare At The Sun,” “Genie’s Got A Problem,” “White Pony,” and “Accidentally Intoxicated.” DeVine stated as follows with respect to the band’s strategy in that regard: “I really like the way we’ve been doing it so far — a new song every few months. Of course, an album would be awesome and we might do that in the future. But if we do that, it would probably only contain new fresh material.”In terms of what The Cruel Intentions‘ plans for the rest of 2017, DeVine stated: “We will keep on writing, putting out music and playing shows. Hopefully, we’ll get to see some new faces in some new countries. And who knows? We might do an album.”

Album:
Life throws us curveballs sometimes. The first time I heard The Cruel Intentions was well over a year ago, and I just did not get them at all. The song apparently hit me at the wrong time as I could not get into Lizzy DeVine’s vocals on the video I saw and wondered why there was so much hype surrounding the band. All I can say is I was either watching a poor-quality video at the time or was just in a bad headspace to hear the band. I had checked out their video for new song ‘Reckoning’ a month or two ago and started going backwards through their prior singles. The band have obviously taken their time to craft a highly enjoyable, quality album that should explode with some exposure.‘Jawbreaker’ doesn’t just open the album; it grabs you by the neck and demands your attention while your hands fumble to turn the volume up higher. This rapid fire sleazy hard rocker provides the perfect opening as the opening riff segue ways into a three-minute burst of adrenalin with a contagious chorus that demands you start singing along with Lizzy DeVine. ‘All I want to do is rock ‘n’ roll til I die’ provides the mission statement for the album at the end of the song. There is no let up in energy or quality as ‘The Reckoning’ explodes out of the speakers like a freight train covered in hooks that will not let go. Kristian Solhaug’s guitar work on the record is phenomenal from the riffs to the solos. ‘Genie’s Got a Problem’ reminds me of early DGeneration with the punk/ street glam approach and simple hook making an immediate statement from this short burst of energy.‘Weekend Suffering’ continues the mastery with Mats Wernerson (bass) and Robin Nilsson (drums) creating some dynamics to help push the huge hook here. Solhaug lays down an awesome solo. If you are not shouting the title in the chorus by the end of the song, it would be advised to make sure you have a pulse. ‘Borderline Crazy’ will be familiar to older fans of the band as the band channels early Motley Crue, Skid Row, and the like but with some modern touches. I am a firm believer that if you put the Cruel Intentions on tour with someone like Guns ‘N Roses today they would sell at least a million records. Next up is ‘Check Your Head’ (not a cover of the Buckcherry song in case you were wondering) with this one really highlighting how awesome DeVine’s vocals fit this band and approach. They drip with sincerity, attitude, aggression, and at times sound like your best friend telling you everything is going to work out okay. The mix on this album is faultless as each musician gets heard with subtle pushes when needed such as the way the guitar solos rip through the speakers. One of my favorite songs ‘Sick Adrenaline’ combines a catchy verse with another chorus that will have you singing it in no time. It’s such a great feeling to have an album where you keep wanting to hit repeat on every track; the best solution has been to just keep this whole album on repeat. This is song after song that should be a hit single. ‘Everybody Riot’ proves to be no exception as this is another hard rocker crafted for audience participation. ‘Go Fuck Yourself’ leaves little mystery in its lyrical content. This one bounces out of the gate with Wernerson and Nilsson again laying claim to some awesome rhythm work as the song switches to a faster gear. There is such an uplifting spirit to the chorus that you cannot help but smile. As we sadly near the end of the album, ‘Chaos in a Bombshell’ let’s us know we are not finished yet. The huge backing vocals carry every ounce of attitude you could hope to hear. Too often today, we hear about albums being front loaded with a few good songs at the start and then a bunch of filler at the back of the record. That does not exist in the world of the Cruel Intentions. There is no let up in these 11 songs. Even with several listens, it is impossible to sit still when playing this album. Finale ‘Devilicious’ switches from fifth gear to fourth gear with the sleaze factor to the tenth power as the album reaches its powerful conclusion.Album of the year contender? Yes, it is. In a year that has seen several albums fighting strongly for my favorite album of the year, the Cruel Intentions have battered down the door to fight for that top spot with a few other albums. I actually cannot remember a year when 2/3 of the way through the year I had so many albums that could easily be my favorite. When, not if but when, you buy this album, I would also recommend completing your collection with their other early songs that did not make the album. With the band, turning up the amps to 11 and laying waste to everything in sight, one of the songs they did not include is the magnificent ‘White Pony,’ which is a more midtempo song that should be a hit single at some point in the future. Cultural musical revolutions (‘Pyromania’ and ‘Nevermind’ for example) get started with albums like this when we suddenly see the change in what society as a whole wants to hear.

The Cruel Intentions are dangerously skilled and always out to have a great time! Serving you the perfect blend of melodrama and fun this Scandinavian sleaze rock band are ready to bring make the best rock music, and sweetest of street styles great again. For what is rock but a homage to the legends! The band was founded in 2015, by Mats Wernerson, Lizzy DeVine, Kristian Solhaug, and Eiliv Sagrusten who has now been replaced by Robin Nilsson on drums. All of which have a widespread band experience. Notably, Lizzy DeVine lived several years in Los Angeles where he was the singer and songwriter of Vains of Jenna, a band that got their breakthrough the American era of Rock´n Reality tv with performances on shows like Jackass, Viva La Bam, and Kat Von Dee’s LA Ink. This no-fucks-given culture has no doubt shaped DeVine and his attitude towards music that is also evident in The Cruel Intentions’ music In technical terms, the band plays around the esthetics of bands such as Guns ‘N Roses and Mötley Crue, and carries on the legacy of good old Rock ‘n’Roll into the contemporary youth of today. The songs are fast paced, humorous and at times really hard-hitting. The result is feelgood music with a fresh, original and modern expression, albeit strongly rooted in rock history. Easy to love and to relate to.

The wait is finally over and The Cruel Intentions is back and ready to hit hard with their most haunting, ambitious and well-written album "All Hail Hypocrisy" yet! They really put their whole heart and soul into creating this opus, offering raw energy shaped into a grueling hard rock. The band waste no time and come out swinging with “Beating In My Chest” a song about the impact Los Angeles had on Lizzy from both an inspirational and career stand point, A love letter to the city that gave us this style of rock music.Musically this song bears a slight resemblance to “We Don’t Celebrate Sunday’s” by Hardcore Superstar in some of the riffs, But this is still very much in the distinct style of this band. Lizzy’s vocals as sleazy and punky as always, Never ceasing to carry the emotion and energy of the song and knock it out of the park. Everything about this song kicks ass, Incredible riffs and energetic drumming from who is in my humble opinion the best drummer in the modern scene, Robin Nilsson.“Living Out Of Line” keeps the momentum going with some great punchy hard rock riffs, The guitar solo here is absolutely fantastic. Again, There’s a slight Hardcore Superstar influence here and on a few tracks on the album if I’m being honest.“All Hail Hypocrisy” sounds a bit like the punk meets Cheap Trick style of Trench Dogs with just a dash of Dropkick Murphy’s, It manages to fit in this bands sound while also sounding like something they haven’t done on their prior albums, Bassist Mats Wernerson has a great bass line on this song.“Triple Threat” kicks up the pace with another great rocker that really lets the rhythm section shine, Mats and Robin really dial up the energy of this song. There’s a cool metal and rock shift around the guitar solo section before going back into the punk/sleaze territory they are experts at.Of the many things this band does right ballads are one they don’t get enough credit for, Having only done two prior to this song and only one of which has made it onto an album. But the rare time they record one it’s always jaw dropping and never like what you would associate a ballad by a hard rock band as being. Case in point: The absolute stunner that is the acoustic driven ballad “Wasteland” and I’m sure everyone will draw their own meaning from it, But for me I can’t help but feel it cut deep with the state of things in the world presently. This song is a master class in creating grandeur through simplicity. Pure, Raw, Unapologetic emotion delivered by master musicians. Strumming acoustic melodies drive the song that eventually builds to an absolutely enchanting guitar solo section, and through it all Lizzy’s lyrics hit hard “When everything is burning, Everybody’s hurting, and somehow it’s fucking all about you” a seething and melancholic anthem that feels very relevant presently. Maybe my favorite song on the album.“When Eden Burn” is like Dr. Feelgood era Motley Crue meets Trench Dogs, This is a bright, Energetic rocker with absolutely infectious melodies. This is a song to play loud on a summer drive.“Pseudo Genius” dials up the sleaze/punk fusion and leans more into the punk side of that combination. A charging sonic middle finger.“Bad Addiction” just hammers the whole way through with another energetic rocker which has an absolutely flawless melodic progression, Another track with a slight Hardcore Superstar influence.“Porridge Head” slows the pace just a bit with a great mid tempo rocker. I don’t think Lizzy gets enough credit for how great his vocals are. He’s got a great ability to convey melody and emotion and he delivers a great chorus here and really is just a killer frontman and vocalist period.“Whatcha Gonna Do” has a slight Dokken element to the sound of this song, A bit of 80’s melodic rock delivered by way of this band’s energetic sleaze punk sound. The twin guitar attack of Lizzy and Kristian Solhaug is always stunning but here they really get to go old school in some of the melodies in their playing.“Cashed Out” is one of my top favorites on this album, If it wasn’t for the ballad on this album this might’ve been my favorite song on the record. Definitely my favorite of all the great rock songs on this album, it’s just non stop great driving hard rock with gang vocals at the chorus. It’s basically everything you could want from an energetic rock song. And as any great album should do it goes out on a high note that leaves you wanting more. This is a jaw dropping album that continues to prove why these guys are one of the best hard rock bands on the planet, There is not a single weak song on this record and the more you listen to it the more impressive it becomes.I think one of the many remarkable things about these guys is that each album is vastly different from the one before it and yet it’s still distinctly them and fits, There’s just no one who sounds exactly like this band. I can’t compare this to Venomous Anonymous because they sound like two different records and yet all their records still go together, It’s just flat out impressive.
