Jeff Cannata is an American, Connecticut-based musician, songwriter, and record producer. Cannata was a founding member and driving force behind the New Haven-based, progressive rock band Jasper Wrath. He was the drummer for the group, however he also sang, played woodwinds, and wrote a majority of the songs on their 1971 self-titled debut album. The band retained a local following and continued touring until they disbanded in 1976.Cannata formed a new project called Arc Angel in 1983, with former Jasper Wrath bandmate Michael Soldan. The group signed a record deal with CBS Records and released a self-titled debut in 1983. In Arc Angel, Cannata was the frontman as he sang and played guitar. He later made a number of solo albums under the name Cannata. These included Images of Forever (CBS Records, 1988) and Watching the World (1993).Jeff Cannata produces several local bands in the Connecticut area and manages the independent record label Oxford Circus Records. He released a new album with Arc Angel in 2002, followed by a new solo album, Mysterium Magnum in 2006.

Jeff Cannata’s first album under the CANNATA banner – and his most celebrated – titled “Images Of Forever“, fully remastered and released via the AOR Heaven Classix series, plus 2 bonus tracks.“Images Of Forever”, the solo debut of former ArcAngel leader Jeff Cannata, was originally released in 1988 via the Carrere / CBS label. In following years the album turned into a real cult piece that fans were willing to pay a fortune for.So this AOR Heaven Classix remastered reissue is more than welcomed, but it was sold quickly and few remaining copies are beign sold for £122 or more.Every song on this record is a perfectly arranged masterpiece without any flaws. The nine original tracks live on multi-layered keyboards and synthesizers, Jeff Cannata s velvety soft voice and his amazing talent for creating beautiful melodies with a perfect balance between melancholy and dreaminess.This first CANNATA album is the more ’80s sounding’ of all, mixing the polished AOR waves from the era, sweet melodic rock, Hi-tech, and slightly lite proggy touches, as on all Jeff’s works.Best example of sond & style here is the legendary album opener ‘Fortune Teller’ that has become a real AOR classic and is included on this AOR Heaven Classix reissue in two different versions, the original album version and the extended version (which is NOT the ‘remix’ version available for digital purchase).But to be fair, I have to point out that songs like the elegant ‘Sailing Ships’, the poppy ‘Middle Of The Night’, the dramatic ‘Long Distance’ or the keyboard driven title track ‘Images Of Forever’ have the same extraordinary class and magic as the opening track.Another favorite of mine, and perhaps the more ‘purest AOR’ track on offer here is ‘Will The Sky Begin To Fall’, plenty of strong guitar riffs and keyboard / synths runs.Beside the aforementioned extended version of Fortune Teller the reissue features another bonus track, ‘King Of Zanzibar’, from the same recording sessions. It goes without saying that this Classix reissue features detailed liner notes by Dave Reynolds and a superb remastered sound by Chris Lyne (Soul Doctor).No doubt, Cannata’s ‘Images Of Forever’ is an essential album in your AOR / ’80s collection.

Jeff Cannata’s second album under the CANNATA banner.With classic albums such as ArcAngel’s self-titled debut and the great follower ‘Images Of Forever’ (the first under the CANNATA banner), Jeff will forever have his true and devoted fans.Almost five years after ‘Images Of Forever’ – which he spent composing and producing for others – another wonderful piece of supreme music appeared from the Jeff Cannata factory: this “Watching The World”.“Watching The World” is highly melodic, fully AOR oriented, and despite of being originally released in 1993, the sound & style is unmistakably ’80s. Just listen to opener “When It’s Love”.“The Hunter” is primo AOR of the highest order with its awesome midtempo pace and lush keyboards, some kind of mix between Dare and Drive She Said.At places, the sound bring to mind Yes ‘Big Generator’ era (a great, underrated album) like on title track, or Asia in ‘Through the Night’.But don’t be fooled, the album rocks as well as on the magnificent ‘Take Me Over’ – think House Of Lords first album – while the delicate ballad ‘Let It Be’ is full on atmospheres thanks to Cannata’s keys / synths and smooth vocals.Pompous AOR, melodic rock, plus light intelligent proggy touches are the motto of Cannata’s “Watching The World”, a majestic album you need to discover.And if you already own this little gem, then wait to listen to this pristine remastering.
