Bio:
If you take the heavy riffs of bands like Black Sabbath and Kyuss, infuse them with the raw energy of Iggy & the Stooges, add some catchy twin guitars in the vein of Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden, and to top it off include some catchy choruses a la Kiss, what do you get? You could definitely get Wolfgang. But like any band that has stood the test of time, there is something unique about Wolfgang. There is brutal honesty in songs like the hard hitting “Swift the Hammer Goes”, a song that gives the listener a pretty good idea of how it was to grow up in a rural environment in Norway where fistfights were a routine. Then there is the longing to get away from that same enclosed space one way or the other in songs like “Cactus Mountains”, “El Dorado” and “Lords of the Chillum”. These are songs of real life played by a no frills hard rock band. What you see is what you get. And you get it hard. No compromises. So where did it all begin?January 1998: The Norwegian winter is at its coldest. But inside a small studio in the middle of nowhere, Wolfgang is on fire. Heavy guitar riffs and thunderous drums fill the cold forests of remote Hedmark County. Eight songs are recorded and released on CD a couple of months later. The album “Welcome to the Cactus Mountains” is well received locally – and by KERRANG – and Wolfgang plays a series of legendary gigs in their home town of Elverum and in Oslo. A year later it is over. The band has self-imploded. Fast forward to…July 2013: Brought on by demand, Wolfgang plays a “one night only” gig in their home town of Elverum. The band is caught off guard by the reaction of the crowd. It’s a magic night. “Welcome to the Cactus Mountains” has long been out of print. Increasing demand dictates that the album should be brought back to life again. The band sends the tapes to sound wizard Johan Forsman in Gothenburg who breathes new life to the eight songs from the original album. As a special treat, the band decides to add three more songs recorded a couple of months after the Cactus sessions. In early December “Welcome to the Cactus Mountains” will be available again as a digital download and as a limited run vinyl LP. Does it get any better? Yes it does. Next year the band will enter the studio once again to record their second album. Half a dozen new songs have already been played live. Wolfgang promises to do its best to keep the spirit of hard rock alive and kicking. No frills. No compromises.
