Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970, originally consisting of Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals). Queen's earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works, incorporating further diverse styles into their music.Before joining Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had been playing together in a band named Smile with bassist Tim Staffell. Freddie Mercury (then known by his birth name of Farrokh "Freddie" Bulsara) was a fan of Smile, and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques after Staffell's departure in 1970. Mercury himself joined the band shortly thereafter, changed the name of the band to "Queen", and adopted his familiar stage name. The latter featured "Bohemian Rhapsody", which stayed at number one in the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks; it charted at number one in several other territories, and gave the band their first top ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. Their 1977 album, News of the World, contained two of rock's most recognisable anthems, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions".By the early 1980s, Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world, with "Another One Bites the Dust" their best selling single, and their performance at 1985's Live Aid is regarded as one of the greatest in rock history. In 1991, Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and Deacon retired in 1997. Since then, May and Taylor have occasionally performed together, including a collaboration with Free and Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers which ended in May 2009. Since 2011, May and Taylor have collaborated with vocalist Adam Lambert under the name of Queen + Adam Lambert. In late 2014, Queen will release a new album, Queen Forever, featuring vocals from the late Freddie Mercury.The band have released a total of 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles, and 10 number one DVDs. Estimates of their record sales generally range from 150 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Queen Forever is a compilation album by British rock band Queen. It has been anticipated for some time and features tracks the band had "forgotten about" with vocals from original frontman Freddie Mercury.Bassist John Deacon is also on the tracks.Drummer Roger Taylor spoke about the album in December 2013, stating that he and guitarist Brian May were "getting together...in the new year to finish what we've got there and then we're going to fashion some kind of album".May announced the title as a compilation album in a radio interview on BBC Radio Wales on 23 May 2014 at the Hay Festival.It will be the first Queen album to feature unreleased material from Mercury (who died in 1991) and Deacon (who retired from the music business in 1997) since 1995's Made in Heaven. The album will be released by Hollywood Records on 10 November 2014.Brian May has said that most of the material "comes from the ’80′s when we were in full flight. It is quite emotional. It is the big, big ballads and the big, big epic sound".He has also stated that it is similar to Made in Heaven.May had earlier stated that the album may end up being a mixture of old existing material and new material containing at least three unreleased songs (later stating possibly as many as five).The material has been fleshed out with modern technology by May.It was stated by Adam Lambert at the start of the 2014 Queen + Adam Lambert tour of North America that "Love Kills", a Freddie Mercury solo song originally intended for Queen's The Works album, has been reworked by the band and will be included on this album. In an August 2014 podcast with Eddie Trunk, May also confirmed that another out-take from The Works, "Let Me in Your Heart Again", recorded in Los Angeles in 1983, would also be included on the new album. The song was previously recorded and released by May's wife Anita Dobson on her album Talking of Love in 1988, featuring May on guitar. The Queen version is confirmed to include all four members of the band. In a separate interview towards the end of Queen's North American tour, May also stated that the two new songs would be released alongside two tracks recorded with Michael Jackson (but did not identify which two). May described the remaining songs on the Queen Forever album as being "unusual" and originating from the existing studio albums.The album contains three new tracks as well as a selection of songs that May and Taylor have described as showcasing the band's musical development, rather than simply being their 'Greatest Hits'.

Queen is the debut studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 13 July 1973 by EMI Records in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. It was recorded at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, London, with production by Roy Thomas Baker, John Anthony and Queen.The album was influenced by contemporary progressive rock and heavy metal music. The lyrics are based on a varierty of topics, including folklore ("My Fairy King") and religion ("Jesus"). Lead singer Freddie Mercury composed five of the ten tracks, guitarist Brian May composed four songs, (including "Doing All Right", he co-wrote with then Smile bandmate Tim Staffell), and drummer Roger Taylor, who both composed and sang "Modern Times Rock and Roll". The final song on the album is a short instrumental version of "Seven Seas of Rhye".

Queen II is the second studio album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 8 March 1974 by EMI Records at midnight in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. It was recorded at Trident Studios and Langham 1 Studios, London from February to August 1973 with co-producers Roy Thomas Baker and Robin Cable, and engineered by Mike Stone. The album is notable for its combination of a heavy rock sound with an art rock sensibility.It has been called "a pillar of grandiose, assaultive hard rock" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Queen II is not a concept album but a collection of songs with a loose theme running throughout.The two sides of the original LP were labelled "Side White" and "Side Black" (instead of the conventional sides "A" and "B"), with corresponding photos of the band dressed in white or in black on either side of the record's label face. UMG Recordings started the release of QUEEN‘s thematic series compilations, grouping songs in the same musical style from the band’s 3-decade career catalog. Especially compiled and overseen by Brian May & Roger Taylor, here’s the titled “HEAVY” volume.
Let’s not forgot that for all the cod-operatic epics, billowing ballads and diversions into funk, blues, musical hall and pretty much every other genre ever invented, in their origins Queen were a hard rocking band. And they continued to record at least one guitar-driven song on each album.It’s not surprising that most of these songs never were singles, not radio-friendly, but quality ‘inside tracks’. It’s great to have these all together, all selections remastered.Opening is one of our favorite Queen songs, ‘Ogre Battle’ (1974), from one of our fav Queen albums, “II”. Lyrically Queen’s first two albums were based around Freddie Mercury’s epic, fantastical bespoke mythology of kings and queens, senators and messengers, fairies and ogres. An overlooked energetic deep-cut from Queen’s last album of the ‘70s was virtually beating a path towards speed metal, or a glam rock stomp at five times the speed, voltage and adrenaline. Piled high with May’s heroic fireworks, Taylor’s whirling elastic fills and Mercury’s rapid-fire delivery, the HM quotient is ramped up even further by the “You’re dead!” thunderstorm ending.Sequenced for maximum impact – blasting in all guns blazing after the soft fade on Freddie’s light-hearted love song to his cat, Delilah – Innuendo’s 1991 ‘The Hitman’ aggressive opening volley of insistent chords and meaty, swaggering riff perfectly express the violence of the ruthless gun-for-hire lyrics, thought by many to be the frontman’s veiled reference to the HIV that was soon to take his life.Queen rocks too, and Brian May’s guitar playing & sound became a trademark in Rock history. These songs are considered anthems due to their powerful and uplifting nature, and their ability to evoke strong emotions and unity.One of the best Queen songs ever is without a doubt ”Don’t Stop Me Now”, and of course when it comes to anthems, “We Will Rock You” and ”We Are The Champions” are two of the highest order. ”Fat Bottomed Girls” is an anthemic bluesy rock romp, sung with gusto by Mercury and proved to be a natural crowd-pleaser.And yes, sure, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a masterpiece of modern music. Especially compiled and overseen by Brian May & Roger Taylor, here’s the new volume titled “FUNK“.Queen is known for diverse styles, and since the late ’70s they added a funky pulsating rhythm to many of their songs, still with the band’s rock&pop punch. Perhaps the most famous is the hit “Another One Bites the Dust” which became a massive hit blending rock and funk elements. This song, with its iconic bassline by John Deacon, is arguably Queen’s most famous foray into funk-rock.Then ‘Dragon Attack’, one of the most covered songs ever from metal to electronic bands, is an amazing little jam turned into a funk rock masterpiece. You can hear that it’s Brian piecing things together over a drum loop. Roger is on fire here, creating a big drum groove, and his signature hi-hat snaps are used to such strong effect. Every band member gets a little solo. Roger’s manic drum break followed by John flooring us with perfect funk bass riffing, then Brian delivering an absolute face-melter and finally the vocals left out in the open by themselves.“Body Language” is another strong example of their funk exploration. This track features a prominent, syncopated bassline, echoing funk and disco influences, and is considered a key example of Queen’s funk experimentation.From their 1989’s album The Miracle, the inside track ‘My Baby Does Me’ is very funky. There’s a nice groove, the base, the guitar loop, the Freddies smooth voice makes this a cool song.‘Dancer’ is a pretty forgotten Queen song. It’s a funk rockin’ track where bridge reminds me of Dragon Attack. The gritty and growling guitars rock, and are a nice balance against the synth bass (played by Brian) and Freddie’s vocal animal.

Especially compiled and overseen by Brian May & Roger Taylor, here’s one of the last QUEEN‘s thematic series compilations made in association with UMG Recordings – ”QUEEN – Ballads” – grouping songs in the same musical style from the band’s 3-decade career catalog.All over their career, Queen delivered some glorious, heartfelt tunes. There are 15 Queen songs with “love” in the title, and it was a word that lead singer Freddie Mercury used all the time in conversation. “Most of the songs I write are about love and things to do with sadness, torture and pain, but at the same time, it’s frivolous and tongue-in-cheek. That’s basically my whole nature, I guess.” Mercury once said.Included into ”QUEEN – Ballads” there’s one song rarely mentioned as classic, but in our opinion, among the best Queen ballads; 1976’s ‘You Take My Breath Away’. Although Queen are renowned for their pulsating stadium rock hits, they’re a band capable of subtlety, too. One of their most heartfelt love songs is the sparse “You Take My Breath Away”. When Mercury recorded it for the album, he left “You Take My Breath Away” as a straightforward piano-led song, multi-tracking himself on vocals. The simplicity worked a treat in a slow, haunting ballad about his need for affection.Of course we find here as well the excellent ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’, and classic ‘Love of My Life’ in its original studio version.One of Mercury’s most haunting break-up songs was ‘Love of My Life,’ from the album Night at the Opera. It is believed to be about his former lover Mary Austin. “It’s fair to say she was the love of Freddie’s life,” said May.The studio version reflected Mercury’s classical music influences and featured May on harp (“I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to force him to play until his fingers drop off!’” Mercury later joked). The pair transformed the song for live versions, with Mercury often just singing solo with May playing a 12-string guitar. “Wherever we did ‘Love of My Life,’ the crowd instinctively knew that they had to sing it,” said Mercury. “It’s amazing to watch. I didn’t have to tell them: they just automatically knew their role. I like an audience to respond like that.”1977’s ‘Spread Your Wings’ another very good power ballad from Queen, and pretty unique. The song is unusual for the band in that it uses a third-person narrative, and also it’s the only Queen single that does not have the rest of the group providing backing vocals to Mercury’s lead.
