Frozen Tears is a stunning pure AOR band that hails from Melbourne. There is some mention of this band in the press as being an AOR band. Perhaps the monicker suggests this is the case, but I'm not sure I agree with this tag. Fairly heavy handed effort by this Melbourne trio, who judging by the liner notes, have some pretty impressive friends in the biz, well Thanis does anyway. And good on him! And good on him also for getting this 15 track effort, all 72 minutes worth, out on CD. I always admire someone for making an effort in the music industry, otherwise I wouldn't have a job reviewing this album!

Album:

This is one of the all-time best albums in the genre. Fairly stereotypical but melodic nonetheless. The record features excellent AOR/Melodic Rock, similar in style to Roxus, Da Vinci, Glory, Signal and FM.Anyway, onto 'Silence Of The Night' the album. There's a lot of 80's style metal here, a la Leatherwolf, Kiss etc. Fairly stereotypical but melodic nonetheless. Thanis' vocals veer into Brian Canham (Pseudo Echo) copyisms most of the time, and the theme of the album alternates between those tracks which are metal/rock oriented, and those which have a slower ballad/accoustic leaning. I quite liked the accoustic flavoured 'One More Time' which has some subtle keyboard layers happening in the background. 'Do You Love Me?' alternates between a slow verse and fast chorus but it does work, some nice cranked up guitar on this one. There's a cover of the Kiss standard 'Strutter' where it seems Kiss are a big influence on Thanis. The piano based 'Wounded Man' is good too, but takes a while to cut to the chase. Apart from the banal lyrics, the track 'Warriors' sounds similar to Swedish bands Norden Light or Crystal Blue, melodic with a driving organ based sound. Not bad. 'Fire Still Burns For U' plods a bit, but the musical structure is OK. 'Never' is a throwback to the eighties, sort of like TNT meets Leatherwolf on Rodeo Drive at 1am in the morning! I think you get the picture.In Summary: AOR in the strictest sense it ain't. Melodic hard rock with an eighties angle is what we get here. Good for what it is, but a classic release as has been touted? Ummm.. no, worth getting only for it's indie status.

FROZEN TEARS are a melodic hard rock band from Melbourne, Australia.‘Brazen Whisper’ is their second album, and not before time – it’s been almost a quarter of a century since their first album ‘Silence of the Night’ was released! Their debut album established the template for the band’s sound, a blend of melodic rock/AOR with an overtone of hard rock, which referenced the band’s key influences (KISS, Whitesnake, Dokken and White Sister).Both of the band’s musicians – Thanis Akritidis (vocal) and Jon Powers (guitars/keyboards/bass) – have a vast amount of experience between them, having led bands since the 1980s (melodic rockers Knight in the case of Akritidis; metal bands Blood On Kisses and Bloodstone in the case of Powers).And it shows, for ‘Brazen Whisper’ marks a polished and powerful return for the duo, mixed and mastered by expert Ty Sims (House Of Lords, Tango Down).

Aussie rockers Frozen Tears consisting of lead vocalist Thanis Akritidis and guitarist / keyboardist Jon Powers have unveiled their new single “Feel The Fire” from their upcoming reimagined, remixed and remastered version of their debut album Silence of The Night. The “new” album has been dubbed Silence of The Night – Turbo Deluxe Edition and will be released via MR Records on October 26, 2023.Frozen Tears‘ debut album was released back in 1997 and a remastered version was later launched on March 2, 2017. Silence of The Night – Turbo Deluxe Edition can be pre-ordered via MR Records‘ website. Drummer Bernie Goldstein and bassist Andy Parsons are listed as additional musicians on the album. Powers handled the bass and Glenn Weldman played the drums on the bonus track “Feel The Fire.”The following message was posted on Frozen Tears‘ Facebook page back on October 10, 2023 (with slight edits): “To all you rockers out there — Finally this will be released next week on Thursday 19th October, our first Single from our Re-Release of Silence of the Night our first CD, but it has been reenergized and remixed and remastered… The full length CD will be released a week later on the 26th October ….so we hope you love the tune and like what we have done to improve what was already a solid debut CD…..”
