As debuts go this has plenty of plus-points.Gasoline Stars are the latest band to emerge from the vibrant, yet congested, Swedish Rock scene. The Gothenburg quartet first appeared in 2012 with their 'Loud 'n' Furious' EP, and 'Good Looks, Bad Behaviour' is their full-length debut. The title and appearance of the band hints at a Glam/Sleaze approach, which is certainly what you get, but it's shot through with that customary Swedish sense of melody that seems to permeate everything that comes from its shores. Throw in some youthful exuberance and you've got what is essentially a good debut effort. I also like the fact that GS haven't resorted to ridiculous stage-names and have also mostly steered clear of the smutty, trashy dumb-ass lyrics that can be a hallmark of the genre. Vocalist Daniel Almqvist has a decent melodic voice, complemented by some great harmony vocals, while guitarist Pontus Gustafsson has contributed some unusual riffs and solos which add something a little different to the norm and stretch the boundaries of this type of music.Disregarding the title track which is nothing more than a short intro piece, the first proper opening track 'L.O.V.E.' is pretty straightforward Sleaze Rock but then track two, 'Where In Somewhere', is a great Bluesy shuffle of a song with a great slide guitar riff and catchy chorus. 'Exotic Thrill' is all L.A Guns and Faster Pussycat embellished with a horn section, 'Hit It Like You Mean It' is chock-full of "na na na" refrains (very simplistic but insanely catchy), then 'Weekend' strays into Power-Pop territory. The closest thing to a ballad is 'All I Want Is You', a mid-tempo effort built around a simplistic piano refrain that brings to mind Kix's 'Don't Close Your Eyes'.The second half of the album leans more towards a Metal sound, but 'Scream It', 'Ain't Life Grand' and 'Be With You' still retain a sense of melody, while closer 'You Should've Known Better' returns to the big choruses of the earlier tracks. As debuts go this has plenty of plus-points, definitely not the finished article, but for sure there's lots of potential to be had.
