Bio:

Somewhere back in time a bunch of absolute reprobates under the moniker of Knock Out Kaine won Kerrang’s Best New Unsigned Act. This was their first official acknowledgement that possibly they had more to offer than singalongs in a boozy backstreet bar in Lincoln. Followed up with KKKK live reviews in Kerrang! magazine, an eye- opening jaunt through Europe with Adler’s Appetite (featuring Steven Adler of Guns N Roses infamy) & all culminating with an appearance at Download Festival & Special Guests to Status Quo, the stage (excuse the pun) was well & truly set for world domination. But this is Knock Out Kaine. A band that lived every minute of every lyric that frontman Dean Foxx sang. Their critically acclaimed debut album ‘House Of Sins’ (2012) offers up an insight into the dark and debauched lifestyle they had become. Tracks such as ‘House of Sins’, ‘Little Crystal’ & ‘Liquor’ are purely autobiographical & evoke the very spirit of 80s rock n roll. The band released their first official music video for ‘Set The Night On Fire’ which featured a cameo appearance from none other than Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden.Under new management, a new record label quickly followed and Knock Out Kaine began work on their 2nd album ‘Rise Of The Electric Jester’. Recorded at Axis studios & mastered at AIR studios the album has been met with extreme positivity and shows how the band has matured from the earlier HOS period. Reviews have suggested a likeness to bands such as Queen & Guns N’ Roses.Knock Out Kaine have most recently received a 10/10 live review from Power Play Rock Magazine (May 2015 issue).

Album:

Knock Out Kaine sport enough sonic muscularity and crunchy guitars to put a bruising on your ears. They may be young, but they have done their homework and studied the greats, so when you spin House of Sins, you will hear influences ranging from L.A. Guns to Cinderella to Guns N’ Roses to Motley Crue to Whitesnake; in other words, while the beefiness of the engineering may be as modern as the Twilight craze, the band’s foundation is the kind of unpretentious, no frills, classic ‘80s hard rock that was in vogue back when Die Hard was the biggest movie in America. The press release calls this album “explosive.” Like a libidinous teenager trying for third base on the first date, that may be taking things a bit too far, but House of Sins is certainly worthy of adjectives like “good” and “solid.” It’s hard to imagine any fan of ‘80s hard rock hating this album, but falling head over heels in love with it may be a stretch too, given the familiarity of the band’s sound. That said, it’s interesting to hear how Knock Out Kaine have taken their myriad influences and melted them into one cohesive whole. Sure, the root sound is ‘80s hard rock, but anyone with even a passing grasp of that genre knows it has many nuances and Knock Out Kaine explore them all, resulting in a rock ‘n’ roll listening experience that is both diverse and unified. Monotonous this album is not.In keeping with the straight-forward nature of the album, the musicianship is sturdily competent without resorting to masturbatory flashiness. The guitars pack the kind of punch you would expect from a band with the words “knock out” in their name while staying overtly melodic. The rhythm section provides some nice heft to the songs and the drums are suitably loud without crashing too far over the top. The singer has a mildly rough, soulful voice that serves this ballsy hard rock style well. Everything about this release, from the songs to the musicians to the production, is designed to deliver solid hard rock and it mostly succeeds, with only a few fillers mucking up the soundscape like nuisance potholes in an otherwise smooth road. While these guys are not quite good enough to break out and lead the pack, they are more than good enough to run with said pack and not get left behind. As mentioned, the band borrows liberally from a bevy of ‘80s rock legends. “Little Crystal” is where the band earns its self-tagged sleaze label, telling the tale of a girl whose life doesn’t end up all sunshine and roses while featuring a slithering riff that Slash would’ve been proud to play back in his GNR days. “Going Down (She Goes)” channels prime time Motley Crue with its street-savvy swagger, foot-tapping rhythm, and catchy chorus. And if “Somebody Save Me” doesn’t remind you of Cinderella, well, you’re probably not that familiar with Cinderella. Not vocally — Dean Foxx is nowhere near as raspy as Tom Keifer — but in the musical construction of the song, a pure-blooded American rocker. But none of these compare to the album’s standout track, “Backstreet Romeo,” in which an acoustic guitar drives the verse into a big, electrified anthem of a chorus. When the last power chord fades from your speakers, this is the song you will find yourself singing along to.Knock Out Kaine have real potential. They do a nice job of sounding both modern and retro, no easy task to pull off, and they deserve to find their audience. Modern rockers, melodic rockers, sleaze rockers, blues rockers, classic rockers…this is one of those albums that offers something for everyone who call themselves a hard rock fan. They might not have scored a knockout punch, but they have definitely got what it takes to put you on the ropes and it will only take another album or two before these guys are serious contenders for the title.

Bio:

Unfashionably cool with their middle digit firmly raised to the trend setters & followers alike. Over the last few years the band have forged a chemistry way beyond their years, which only truly great bands are able to accomplish. By no means X Factor style ‘overnight successes’, still self-managed they have been working their craft hard since their conception in 2005, building to the point where 2013 promises to be the year of KOK.After winning KERRANG!’s Best Unsigned Live Act in 2008 and spending the bulk of 2009-2011 touring in both the UK and Europe offering support to one Steven Adler (Guns n' Roses’ original drummer) when he took his already successful act Adler’s Appetite on the road. Knock Out Kaine played 22 dates with Adler’s Appetite across Europe’s most famously debauched venues.KOK also toured with Chris Holmes of W.A.S.P. supporting his new band Where Angels Suffer on the UK leg of their european tour, as well as rocking a prestigious spot on the Pepsi Max Stage at Download Festival 2011...2012 ran its course, anticipating that it was going to be a big year for Knock Out Kaine... Excitement built to near fever pitch as the guys signed their first album deal leading to the release of our debut album entitled "HOUSE OF SINS" through DUST ON THE TRACKS Records (DOTT Music, Germany)...believe when the critics say "It rocks hard!!". The Midlands quartet completed the year 2012 by opening up in Glasgow for British rock legends Status Quo on their annual QuoFest Concert Tour. Here at KOK HQ, we are revved up for the next big push, 2013 see's them supporting Hollywood rockers Love/Hate on their Blackout '13 UK tour, a spot at Classic Rock Magazines Hard Rock Hell AOR Festival, a slot in Britains newest rock festival, SkyFest and the long awaited release of our debut music video for 'Set the Night on Fire'.So get ready, the eight legged disaster area known as KNOCK OUT KAINE is coming to a venue near you!

Album:

1st February 2015 : KNOCK OUT KAINE RELEASE FREE SINGLE "16 GRAMS OF HEART ATTACK" FEATURING CHRISTIAN BRADY OF HELLYEAH! AS GUEST LEAD GUITARIST Lincoln-based rockers Knock Out Kaine release the vivacious and pulsating free single "16 Grams Of Heart Attack" taken from their upcoming album "Rise of The Electric Jester". The album is set for release on 2nd March 2015 on Rocksector Records, which will follow an already sold-out launch event on 28th February."16 Grams Of Heart Attack" is available and features a trademark solo by guest lead guitarist Christian Brady of HellYeah!Formed in 2005, Knock Out Kaine went on to win KERRANG!'s Best Unsigned Live Act in 2008, following which they toured the UK and mainland Europe extensively during 2009-2011. This touring included 22 dates with Steven Adler of Guns n Roses fame. They also toured with Chris Holmes of W.A.S.P. and appeared at Download Festival in 2011."Rise Of The Electric Jester" is the 2nd album by the band; their "House of Sins" debut was released on German label DOTT Music in 2012, a year which also saw Knock Out Kaine support British rock legends Status Quo.The new album is a melodic rock cocktail of great texture and flavour which without question sees the band harness much of the invaluable ingredients gained during the past 4 years especially. A trademark Knock Out Kaine spirit and sound remains un-disguised alongside layers of mature songwriting and craft which will energise existing fans whilst without doubt attracting legions of brand new followers. Alongside the variety of influences and inspiration there's even a local twist whereby the vocal melody in the chorus of "Cascading" actually matches the hourly chime of the cathedral in the band's home city of Lincoln."Rise Of The Electric Jester" was recorded at Axis Studios in Doncaster (Black Spiders, Terrorvision, Absolva) and mastered by Ray Staff (Zeppelin, Sabbath, Muse, The Clash).

Album:

Our good friends Knock Out Kaine are back with their new E.P. Cruel Britannia.Coming just a year after their monumental second album, Rise Of The Electric Jester, the four tracks here show the fantastic potential of a band that means serious business. The opening track, Cruel Britannia, is a firing on all cylinders, storming hard rock anthem. The humourous yet brutal lyrics, delivered by a brilliant performance by Dean Foxx, are a no holds barred attack aimed at the government and big businesses. The virtuoso guitar of Jimmy Bohemian soars over the top of the thundering rhythm section of Lee Byrne and Danny Krash.Love The Way You Hate is a singalong classic. It's complex yet solid rhythms showcase the band's acoustic based side.Going Down, from the album House Of Sins, has been given a complete overhaul and highlights the band's versatility. The last track, a faithful cover version of Steve Earle's classic, Copperhead Road is a master stroke. With a new album already being planned for later in the year, it's exciting times for the band. Let's hope they start to get the recognition they so richly deserve for all their hard work.

Album:

Lincolnshire, UK rockers KNOCK OUT KAINE are back this 2020 after a four year hiatus and some line up changes (now a 5 piece). Their new album ‘Living Breathing Monster‘ is being released today January 1st.Still fronted by charismatic Dean Foxx, KNOCK OUT KAINE continues perfecting their brand of 80s L.A. influenced sleazy hard rock, and I can see why the band was chosen to support Adler’s Appetite extensive European tour some time ago: KOK’s sound is very reminiscent of Guns N’ Roses and related. With ‘Living Breathing Monster’ KNOCK OUT KAINE are out to prove themselves after taking a few months off to reboot. Bass player Paul Crouch and additional six stringer Tom Robinson complete the new look, with existing members, Danny Krash on drums and Jimmy Bohemian also on guitar.I have to say that the performance of this refreshed crew, only after the first song ‘Nothing Ever Changes’, is pretty impressive. Strong and moody, they continue with the excellent rocking title track with that Sunset Strip 1987 feel.Is that groovy rocker ‘Mine All Mine’ penned by Axl Rose? Or perhaps Bret Michaels circa 1988? It’s a great catchy tune with a guitar sound straight from the Slash set-up. ‘Burn the Witch’ is all about the ’80s, and I find a little of Crazy Lixx on it, the the slow (not a ballad) ‘Into the Fire’ is very interesting both in music & lyrics.‘Personal Hell’ shows a different side of KOK, a bluesy rocker with pianos and a classic rock smell, but soon after ‘She’s Kinda Like’ rocks again (complete with cowbell) ready to be played at a sweaty packed venue.‘Terminally Vain’ is the ballad on the album, yet not your typically power ballad. It’s emotional. ‘Oxygen Thief’ does what promises in its title, a hot hard rocker with blasting guitars and lots of gang vocals.Despite titled ‘Stoopid Iz Az Stoopid Duz’, this closing number isn’t that sleazy but an intense bluesy hard rocker, plenty of solos.Dean Foxx said that KNOCK OUT KAINE wouldn’t be silent for long, so it’s great to see them back with a stronger line up and a solid, entertaining new album.‘Living Breathing Monster’ takes you back to the sleazy hard rock golden days, so if you like this style, in the hands of KOK resulting like mix of ’87 Guns N’ Roses and Poison, then this album is for you.
