Bio:

Extra Band is a Czech rock band from Pilsen, Czech Republic, formed in 1983. It was formed from the former band Elegie, which was active between 1977 and 1982. Extra Band went through several line-up changes, including a brief stint as lead singer by Dan Barta in 1988. The band focuses on modern rock music with an emphasis on young musicians.Brief history: 1977-1982: The original group Elegie.1983: Formation of Extra Band after the dissolution of Elegie.1988 - Short life of Dan Barta.2010 - The group is still active with a changing line-up.Extra Band is known for its energy and modern rock sound that has evolved over the years. The band is associated with the city of Pilsen and their work is part of Czech rock history. In the spring of 1977 Jaroslav Rajtmajer and his brother Václav founded the band Elegie Jazz, which played demanding music in the spirit of modern jazz rock. In the summer of 1979 the group switched from jazz to harder, more energetic music and Elegie Rock was founded. Jaroslav Rajtmajer - founder, composer, bassist, vocals, Vaclav Rajtmajer - guitar, vocals, Antonin Fekl - drums, solo vocals, Jan Rous - keyboards, vocals. The band performed at dance parties, concerts and festivals. During the time of Elegie, songs like Sudé berou, Rock Ball, Be Fine, Vincent van Gogh and others were written. Elegie played its last concert on 8 June 1982 in Prague. At the turn of 1982/1983 J. Rajtmajer and M. Moravec founded Extra Band. Jiří Mothejzlík (guitar), Milan Ránek (drums) and Jan Svárovský (vocals) joined the band in 1983. Jaroslav Rajtmajer, as in Elegy, was the composer of most of the songs. The bandleader Jaroslav Rajtmajer was not very satisfied with Jan Svárovský and was looking for a second singer. In 1984 Jaroslav Soukup came from the group Sejf. At the beginning of summer 1984 another change took place, Miroslav Moravec emigrated to the USA. He was replaced by guitarist Pavel Navratil. At the end of 1984 J. Rajtmajer replaced the singer J. Svárovský with Antonín Fekl. However, Antonín Fekl soon left for the Prague band Projektil (Digi). The new singer was Radomil Zíka, together with him came the guitarist of the former Elegie, Vaclav Rajtmajer. In this line-up, the band recorded exactly the same songs as Elegie: Sudé berou, Rock Ball, And now it's time to go, Vincent Van Gogh, etc. and released two singles on Supraphon. The band hired a manager, Zdeněk Roučka, and turned professional in early 1987. Then the line-up was expanded by a new keyboardist Luboš Friček.In December 1988 the band played their last concert in Alfa, after which most of the members left with Jaroslav Soukup and formed the band Gepard. Jaroslav Rajtmajer continued with a completely new line-up of Extra Band. The band was joined by Dan Barta, then a beginner singer, Jiri Milý - drums, Roman Sandor - guitar, vocals, Roman Pikl - keyboards. Dan Bárta sang in Extra Band only for a short time, because he failed with his singing in the obligatory playbacks. In this line-up the band got a professional recording: 1st guitar - Jaroslav Pohlod, 2nd guitar - "Sako" Josef Šafařík, vocals - Jan Svárovský, keyboards - Roman Pikl, bass guitar - Jaroslav Rajtmajer, drums - Petr Kotora. At the end of 1989 Extra Band suspended its activity. In 1995 Jaroslav Rajtmajer together with Petr Kotora started to work on the preparation of a new Extra Band album. In 1996, the single Zvony (CD single 1996 on Snake Records / 0028-3) was released, featuring the songs Zvony and Beach of the Sand Dunes. In 1999 Jaroslav Rajtmajer put together the third Extra Band line-up of young musicians: Filip Nováček: vocals, Ondřej Franěk: guitar, keyboards, Martin Čech - keyboards, Pavel Vrána: vocals, drums, Michal Rajtmajer: guitar, drums, bass guitar, keyboards. In 2002, the long-prepared album Hodina H was released. At the end of 2003 part of the band left. Petr Kotora returned to the stage, singer and guitarist Miroslav Cába and second guitarist Pavel Fekiac appeared. In 2012, the new, fourth formation of Extra Band was renewed by Petr Kotora and Jaroslav Rajtmajer, with Miroslav Litomerický on guitar, second guitarist Zdeněk Votavá and new singer Pavel Vrána. The band made contact with Miroslav Moravec, the founder of Extra Band, living in the USA, on the basis of which a new cooperation began. Not long after, however, co-founder Jaroslav Rajtmajer left the group after treatment in a psychiatric hospital. After his departure, Petr Kotora took over the leadership and Petr Kuchar joined on bass guitar.Pavel Vrána, the singer of the band, died of a sudden stroke on 22 April 2014. At the beginning of 2015, Petr Kotora remained from the previous line-up, Miroslav Cába returned and Karel Babka joined. The band closed themselves in the studio, where a new album in English called Who We Are was created. This album was released in 2016 on SUPRAPHONLINE. That same year, Extra Band was granted a trademark for the name and logo. Extra Band held the first place in the CzechParade on TV Rebel with the song Seductive Nights from the album Who We Are and became the band of the month in March 2017.
