Band from Stoke-On-Trent, England formed around 1987 by members who had previously played in bands such as HERITAGE and STATETROOPER.U☆S☆I was formed mid ‘80s by Steve Johnson, whose previous experience was with UK Metal band HERITAGE and the album “Remorse Code” in 1982. Steve also wrote songs with Phil Lynott just before he passed away.U☆S☆I went thru’ many line-up changes over a ten-years period, including band members like Steve Dawson, Nigel Durham and Paul Fasker Johnsson of SAXON fame, Eddie Stratton who played with ONE MINUTE SILENCE, and Neil Ogden, drummer with DEMON, PERSIAN RISK and SKIN.In 1989 the band won the very first round of “Rock Wars” competition (Tommy Vance's “Friday night Rock Show” on BBC Radio 1), a show he put on to showcase new and unsigned bands and they went to “BBC Maida Vale” studio to record four tracks. They recorded more demos thru' the years and played a lot of shows in UK.Their sound has been described by UK mag “Metal Forces” (#34, 1988) as “strong mainstream Rock, unquestionably British, but with a significant nod towards a U.S. style”.The new CD "Dark Star" from Steelheart Records will contain all material recorded by the band (fully remastered) with the usual booklet with unseen pics and material + liner-notes written by “the one and only” Rob Evans.If you like the Melodic Metal style of bands like SAXON (“Destiny” / “Solid Ball Of Rock” era) and PERSIAN RISK, with a touch of Classic Hard-Rock a la THIN LIZZY and DEMON, you’ll love U☆S☆I !
