Bio:
Teaze is a Canadian hard rock band formed in Windsor, Ontario in 1975. The band released four studio albums and a live album recorded in Japan. They were discovered by Mel Shaw who produced a bunch of demos with the band to help them launch their career. The band and Shaw loved the songs so much that they decided to turn it in a full album. This LP was released with Force One Records, a division of London Records.Aquarius years: Bob Rags,Terry Flood, Donald Tarlton aka Donald K. Donald, and Aquarius Records discovered and signed Teaze with Aquarius Records They first seen the group at the famed RPM convention in Toronto Canada. The group was then purchased from Force One Records, Mel Shaw and then personal manager Stan Witcher..Their only hit single had been released with this label on their second album, On The Loose. It was a slow ballad called Sweet Misery. In 1977, they moved to Montreal and starting touring all over US and Canada without getting much visibility. Their big-break happened in Sept. of 1978, when they toured in Japan for ten days. The reception was so favorable that they recorded a live album there: Tour Of Japan. When they came back to their new adopted hometown, they met Myles Goodwyn, leader of the band April Wine who was signed with Aquarius Records since the very beginning. Goodwyn produced One Night Stands. The result of that album was a lot more serious than their firsts two releases. It consequentially ended up being their only U.S./worldwide release on Capitol/Aquarius Records. They also toured all around the world to spread their popularity without a lot of success. Body Shots, the last record recorded by Teaze was produced by Nick Blagona who some attribute a major factor in the demise of the band.As a consequence the last album "Body Shots" did not produce any hits, Brian Danter left the group to pursue his life long religious calling, Aquarius Records and the band failed to find a suitable replacement. Aquarius Records lost interest in the band and decided to break the contract. The band split-up at that time.Aftermath:Myles Goodwyn produced two best-of compilations after Teaze's break-up. Those albums also been released by Aquarius.[6] One of these album, A Taste Of Teaze became their best seller. The song Heartless World from the album One Nights Stands was featured in the 2014 Icelandic movie Málmhaus (aka Metalhead). The song Heartless World was also featured in a movie called "Twists of Terror" starring Donald Sutherland.
Album:
TEAZE are from Windsor, Canada. There was something almost un-Canadian about the evangelical fervour that TEAZE displayed. Brian Danter sang ‘til it hurt. Mark Bradac and Chuck Price invented slam dancing (and that was while playing their guitars). Mike Kozak, who never let his drum kit get in the way of self-expression, regularly went screaming off the stage to be closer to his audience. It was three or four shows in one and nobody had a label for it.The first TEAZE album was recorded in 1976 at a facility near Toronto called The Grange. The band thought they were taping demos, but an LP called “TEAZE” was released. It ultimately went on to sell more copies in Sweden than Canada. After that, TEAZE was signed by Aquarius Records and the band moved to Montreal. In late 1977 they made an album called “ON THE LOOSE” with producer George Lagios. They began to gain a following and the next album marked a night of firsts. It was the first show outside of Canada. It was their first outing as a concert headliner. It was their first live album, “TOUR OF JAPAN.”The band was growing in popularity. A deal was signed with Capitol in the U.S. At last, TEAZE would be on sale “up North” in Detroit. “ONE NIGHT STANDS” needed to be a great album. It was, it was TEAZE’s finest work. The performance was passionate. The music was powerful. The lyrics were lucid and clever. Producer Myles Goodwyn helped the band weave together all of their disparate elements. “ONE NIGHT STANDS” included the band’s most memorable songs, “HEARTLESS WORLD” and “YOUNG AND RECKLESS”.TEAZE’s fifth and final album, “BODY SHOTS” was a strong effort but at some point, between their first and last recording the members of TEAZE had lost their brashness. The fourth LP indicated that their best might not be good enough. Getting released from their U.S. deal proved to be a decisive blow and the band fragmented within six months of the release of “BODY SHOTS.”Perhaps TEAZE was ahead of its time. It could be they were misunderstood. The five albums back then constitute a legacy. As it turns out the Legacy is far from over…Over time the various band members went their own ways but then a get together at a local restaurant would end with everyone on board to attempt the most unlikely 39-year reunion. So there was a TEAZE RESURRECTION show at Windsor’s Walkerville Theatre. The theatre, filled with family, friends and fans from across Canada, enjoyed the first TEAZE show since 1980. This led to another live show and subsequent CD release “Live at Liege” and this fantastic recording was released on Escape in 2025 (ESM403).So, what next? – A new studio Teaze album!! It’s 2026, 50 years after the debut… and they have recorded an album that proves these Canadians are far from done..it’s like they have never been away! Classic riffs and memorable hooks, it’s a dream come true… and time to “Rev your Engines” !!
