We already featured here remastered reissues of CCM artist GEOFF MOORE, now Girder Records is covering his second half of the ’80s era when Geoff formed his backing band “The Distance“.Released 1988 ”A Place to Stand” solidified Geoff Moore’s role as one of Christian music’s premier AOR and Melodic Rock voices. From the energetic title track to the heartfelt “Tender Hearts” and the infectious “A Friend Like U,” the album delivers classy radio friendly melodic rock, wrapped in glossy guitars and big choruses.Produced by White Heart’s founding member Billy Smiley you can expect a crisp, clean crystal sound here, whith the likes of Bob Hartman (Petra), Rick Florian (White Heart), John Schlitt (Petra), Roscoe Meeks (Twenty Twenty) and Dave Perkins (Chagall Guevara) make an appearance on ”A Place To Stand”.But possibly the most fascinating thing of this good AOR / melodic rock album by Geoff Moore is that Dann Huff (Giant / White Heart) contributed to the lead guitar work but has gone un-credited for years, until now. Billy Smiley confirmed that there wer efforts to make this album more guitar driven work so he brought in session musician Dann Huff and Roscoe Meeks (twenty twenty) to help with the lead guitars. If you’ve ever wondered why the guitars on ”A Place to Stand” sound so powerful, polished, and downright addictive, there’s a good reason — they feature the legendary Dann Huff. Before becoming one of Nashville’s most sought-after producers and a four-time Grammy winner, Huff was a world-class session guitarist and frontman for the melodic rock band Giant. In the ’80s, his signature tone and soaring solos could be heard on albums by Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Petra, White Heart, and Stryper. On these Geoff Moore records, Huff’s playing injects arena-rock energy and melodic precision, giving the songs the same AOR magic you’d hear from greats like Journey or Toto. Now available for the first time in over 35 years on remastered CD as part of the ”Legends of Rock” series, the album has received the full Girder treatment, which includes audio remastering by Rob Colwell and redesigned layouts by Scott Waters, 8 page booklets in a jewel case with trading cards. When an album receives ‘The Girder Treatment’, it’s more than a reissue—it’s a resurrection, restored with unparalleled attention to detail with all original liner notes and lyrics and then some. Everything collectors want and expect, carefully curated to honor the music and the memories.
