Thornbridge is a german Power Metal Band formed in 2008.German power metal outfit Thornbridge is due to release the band's debut album "What Will Prevail" - produced by Orden Ogan vocalist Seeb Levermann - in February of 2016 via Massacre Records.The quartet aims to bring back old school power metal with epic songs full of hymn-like choirs and polyphonic guitar melodies.

In contrast to the two previous albums that were more on the heavy side, "Daydream Illusion" is a bit more melancholic and magical, which is also reflected in the vocals that are less aggressive and cleaner on this album.Special attention was paid to catchy melodies and lyrics, and for the first time a ballad made it onto an Thornbridge album. The concept album tells the story of a boy who tries to save his dream world and its characters from the destruction and violence he is confronted with in his real life in the form of questionable and inhumane 'healing methods' and surgeries in a mental asylum set in the early Victorian era.I was blown away by Thornbridge’s debut WHAT WILL PREVAIL back in 2016. I liked it so much I bought the album, bought the shirt and the band made my Top 20 for that year. The 2019 follow up, THEATRICAL MASTERPIECE was also very, very good. It has been a long five years and half the band has changed but here we are with DAYDREAM ILLUSION. Somethings don’t change and Spaniard Castanello does the gorgeous artwork for a third time in a row for the band. The song-writing team is intact and for the third time in a row the band used Greenman studios in Germany and the production team featuring Seeb of Orden Ogan, so the critical infrastructure elements are still in place. What is odd is that, considering all those other stable aspects there has been a slight change in style for this album.For DAYDREAM ILLUSION the band has adopted in part , a circus theme and motif. I cannot think of how many Power Metal bands have done this, (Amberian Dawn, Battle Beast, Edguy, Evil Masquerade, Labyrinth, Manticora, Serious Black, etc.) and while it is not original, I fully like and embrace the theme.If anything, the album is just slightly more melodic and less heavy overall, but the band said that would be the case in statements to the press. The Blind Guardian and Orden Ogan musical touchpoints are relegated to the background a bit more and we get a cleaner, sweeter sound. The band is Metal to the core lots of fast songs driven by double-kick drumming but it seems the vocal melodies are a bit lighter and sweeter this time around.We start with some circus inspired instrumental music with bells and calliope-type sounds and circus sound effects of crowds and children to set the mood and tone. We are off to the races with a traditionally speedy opener, an exciting tune and thankfully the band does not mess with tradition! There is also a surprisingly tender, ballad called ‘Send Me A Light’ with mostly vocals and acoustic piano. It is a beautiful little song. Later in the album I love the militaristic feel and big gang/choir vocals on the cut ‘Final War’. Almost all of the songs are simple and effective, mostly in the four-to-five-minute range with good catchy tunes and effective compositions. All across the album we get good big gang vocal choruses, which I always enjoy.The evolution in sound on DAYDREAM ILLUSION is a calculated balancing act. Can they retain the original fans of the heavier sounds and appeal to a newer, group of slightly more melodic fans? I think when the performances and songs are this good, the band will walk that circus tightrope successfully and find a broader audience. It’s been five years since the last record and it was worth the wait for the Thornbridge circus to come to town.
