Bio:

Kiss was formed in New York in '72 by guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley (Stanley Eisen) and Gene Simmons (Gene Klein). The line-up was rounded out by drummer Peter Criss (Crisscoula), located through a Rolling Stone ad, and lead guitarist Ace Frehley (Paul Frehley), who answered an ad in the Village Voice. The band's cartoon image, kabuki makeup and 4th-of-July stageshow concept was in place from the start, and they began promoting their own hall shows in NYC. TV director Bill Aucoin saw them, became their manager, and secured a deal for them with Neil Bogart's Casablanca Records within two weeks. Three LPs were released in a year's time, but the live fourth LP, Alive! (1975) contained their first huge hit, "Rock And Roll All Nite." Until the early '80, Kiss was unstoppable, with two huge-selling Marvel Comics, a network TV movie and four simultaneously-released solo albums under their studded belts. In '80, Criss left for a solo career and since then, the drum and lead positions have been ever-changing. In '83, the band stripped away the makeup and celebrated renewed interest."You wanted the best, you got it! The hottest band in the land: KISS!" So went the rally cry at the beginning of a Kiss concert, an event of exploding pyrotechnics, vomited blood and louder-than-God hard rock. Their fan club--The Kiss Army--swelled to six-figures strong during the band's '70s heyday, and between 1974 and today they've sold in excess of 70 million albums. In '96, the original band reformed (made up?), and took their full costume-makeup-pyro 1976 show on the road--for a year-long stint--resulting in one of the most successful rock tours ever. Conjecture that the band wanted to quit on a high note has remained unproven; anything could happen in Kiss' future.

Album:

Destroyer is the fourth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss, released on March 15, 1976, by Casablanca Records in the US. It was the third successive Kiss album to reach the top 40 in the US, as well as the first to chart in Germany and New Zealand. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1976, and platinum on November 11 of the same year, the first Kiss album to achieve platinum. The album marked a departure from the raw sound of the band's first three albums.Everybody gonna move their feet and leave their seat for a new deluxe edition of KISS’ signature studio album ”Destroyer”, available November 19. Following the success of the double concert album Alive! in 1975, which introduced the world at large to the hard-rockin’ quartet in black and white facepaint and out-there stage costumes, ”Destroyer” was polished to perfection by producer Bob Ezrin. The group added layers of unique craft to these songs, from string sections to sound effects – and Ezrin’s unconventional methods (later compared to “musical boot camp” by lead singer Paul Stanley) enhanced their musicality. This “Destroyer [45th anniversary Super Deluxe Edition 4xCD]” is packed with audio extras – many previously unreleased – and plenty of ephemera for KISS Kollectors.Alongside the remastered album, three bonus discs offer demos from Stanley and Simmons’ archives, a jam-packed offering of outtakes and single edits (including a new acoustic mix of “Beth” and the long-coveted “Ain’t None of Your Business,” the first song cut during the album sessions), and a previously unreleased live concert taken from the Olympia Theatre in Paris. For the recording of ”Destroyer”, Ezrin was brought in as KISS’s new producer, helping the band reach new levels, both sonically and creatively. The album also showed the band’s growth as musicians and songwriters, experimenting with new sounds which came in the form of the softer side of songs like “Do You Love Me?,” and songs heavy with orchestral arrangements including “Great Expectations” and their Billboard No. 7 hit single “Beth.”Following the breakthrough success of 1975’s No. 9 Billboard charting Alive!, ”Destroyer” was the KISS album that brought them to the forefront of the mainstream and transformed them into global rock icons. For its anniversary, UMe celebrates this seminal album’s legacy with a staggering amount of bonus material.CD 1 includes the original album newly remastered at Abbey Road Mastering, while CD 2 features 15 demos from Paul Stanley’s and Gene Simmons’s personal archives – 9 of which are unreleased.CD 3 is packed with studio outtakes, alternate versions / mixes and single edits – most notably a brand-new stripped-down mix for “Beth (Acoustic Mix),” and CD 4 contains an electrifying performance from the band’s visit to Paris France at the L’ Olympia on May 22, 1976.The entire contents are housed in a lift top- style box and features artist Ken Kelly’s original ”Destroyer” cover art, arguably one of the most iconic album covers in rock, making this the ultimate KISS Destroyer souvenir.
