Bio:

A band originating out of Baton Rouge Louisana, playing a style between pure hard melodic rock, and a dance oriented groove. How can that be you may ask? Well, the likes of Robbie Nevil, Robert Tepper and Judson Spence can pull it off, so can these boys. You'd think though that coming from Louisana that the dance and groove influences they play is about as rare as finding a shopping mall on a deserted island, but the C'vello boys do real well. Based around the brother pairing of Kevin and Tracy C'vello, and with a big label behind them, this album is rather nice, but you really have to be 'open' to the different styles that they play. Big on keyboards, big on rhythmic arrangements and a great image too!One Christmas their father bought a miniature drum set and baby Tracy then four could not get enough of it while the guitar became an extension of Kevin’s body as he hardly ever put it down. It became apparent that Kevin had an exceptional singing voice and played the guitar better than some older musicians playing in bands. Tracy was a natural on the drums and soon Kevin and Tracy were taking over the practice room and the two of them became so intuitive of each others playing that they sounded like pros at a very early age. What really cinched it for Kevin was the time he was invited by the music teacher of Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge to sing a song in their auditorium for the student body. Kevin was only seven at the time. The high school kids in the audience were restless and cutting up as they do at that age. When Kevin was introduced and walked out on stage you could hear a pin drop. Kevin started playing his acoustic guitar and singing “Daisy Jane”. The kids went wild after Kevin sang in perfect pitch as he played his guitar with the music director accompanying him on piano. After that standing ovation, Kevin was hooked for life and is still one of the greatest singers and musicians in Louisiana. Tracy has become one of the most sought after percussionist. Tracy also excels as a recording engineer, musical arranger, music programmer, keyboardist and bass player. Kevin and Tracy signed a record contract in 1992 with Rendezvous/RCA records and performed their album “C’vello”. In 2010, Kevin and Tracy along with the rest of their group, Ken Hulin and Sammy Bracoto were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.

Album:

I couldn't think of a better song to open up with, which lets the listener know exactly where C'vello are coming from. The sucker punch as it were. 'Youth' is a barnstorming track, well produced, and dynamic in it's sound. Listen to those huge drums! This is followed by a straight-ahead styled rocker called 'Long Vacation' a la Tonto Tonto, while the next pair are a change-up.. 'Day By Day' has a west coast feel a la DeBarge while 'Dangerous' is a gorgeous ballad with lilting keys and a killer chorus. 'Lipstick' moves in that same dance space as the aforementioned trio named above. The next track 'This Jam Is Cold' is startlingly different, a rap backbeat with house music blaring through the speakers. Very inventive and unusual. You have to appreciate the cheek of it all, like Harold Faltermeyer getting hijacked in Harlem!! We return to a more contemporary groove laden piece with 'Turn You On', again like DeBarge in their most melodic moments from the eighties. 'Seasons Love' is another heartfelt ballad while the pair of 'Diamond Girl' and 'Dezera' continue the groove/melodic rock crossover.Probably not an immediate appeal to hardened melodic rockers, but for those with a penchant for high stepping rhythms, excellent production, and a varied lineup of songs, then C'vello should be on your wants list.
