Forsaken Age are a 4 piece heavy metal band from Auckland, New Zealand which pays homage to their heavy metal heroes. Described as “unapologetic 80s traditional metal worship”, Forsaken Age delivers galloping riffs, power melodies and lyrics which conjure images of vikings and fantasy battles. “With every riff, solo and drum fill, you hear metal lineage recreated, reinterpreted, and celebrated”. The band was formed in 2010, and since then have opened for a number of international support slots including The Iron Maidens, Venom Inc, Alestorm, Eluveitie, Nightwish, Ross the Boss Band and Artillery.

The song and record titles of FORSAKEN AGE's first long-playing record are bursting with stereotypes that make you fear the worst sheet metal, but the band, which has existed since 2009, takes a short time to get used to it - as genre-conforming as it may be, so unconventional it sounds at the same time - as a charming in-between meal for Kauz-Stahl friends.The quintet seems exotic not only because of its origins: the musicians from New Zealand have in the 50-year-old Chrissy Scarfe a charismatic and, in the best sense of the word, idiosyncratic singer who, because of her voice, has constant associations with Shok Paris legend Vic Hix, Lizzy Borden and Andy Michaud (Lie Lords frontman on their first two records).However, the lady is so versatile that you hardly notice the guest appearance of Judas Priest's temporary Rob Halford replacement in the combative 'Raven's Cry'. Then it gets all the more melancholy with 'Ride On', before 'In Our Hearts' seems to quote proto-speed fabric from Jaguar or Raven.After the accept-suspicious stomper 'Blood Magick', FORSAKEN AGE tend towards rock than metal, especially during 'Iron Overlord', introduced by a quote from Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal, and in 'Running In The Dark', which hit the unspectacular low point marked on the disc."Heavy Metal Nightmare" needed more bite, especially in the second half; it's like the combo runs out of breath towards the end, even if 'Guardians Of The Damned' stands out with its double bass; 'Time Warrior' then leaves a too sedate last impression, and these are usually particularly well remembered.
