Bio:

Smashed Gladys were an eighties glam metal band, formed in 1984, with Sally Cato on vocals, Bart Lewis on lead guitar, J.D. Malo on bass, and Matt Stelluto on drums. The band also had a succession of secondary guitar players (who, according to available credits, played some leads as well as rhythm): Tommy Wah in 1986, then Roger Lane from 1987 until the band's career ended. Cato and Lewis met in Canada, then moved to New York City, where they completed the line-up and built their career.Ozzy Osbourne provided backing vocals for their song "Cast of Nasties". Lewis, Malo and Stelutto made cameo appearances in the music video for the Run-D.M.C. cover of "Walk This Way".Smashed Gladys has a self-titled YouTube channel, which is handled by Cato, the band's primary songwriter. Stelluto is now currently employed by the New York Mets.

Album:

Great debut album. The CD reissue version is particularly interesting as it offers 5 additional tracks. I think the band must have listened wisely to the advice. The whole thing is better produced and arranged. Some piano layers come to dress cleverly some compositions like "Bump In The Night" or "Black Beauties" and give a real added value to the whole. Finally Sally brays less and modulates her voice more. This is particularly effective on the semi-ballad "Sweet Pain" or the very well interpreted "Woman", which could have fit the late Janis Joplin like a glove. If you like Glam metal from the 80s like DIAMOND REXX, TEEZE, LONDON...then you will love this album too. Good album, i love it.All songs arranged by: Sally Cato, Bart Lewis and Mark Dearnley. *With the exception of 'Dream Away Heartache' arranged by Sally Cato, Bart Lewis, Mark Dearnley and G. Simmons.SMASHED GLADYS was formed in Toronto, Canada, 1984 , they decide to move to New York real quick and it’s there where these sleazy, rude and crude rockers career starts, fronted by an awesome female vocalist.Under Tommy Boyce’s guidance, who (along with his partner Mickey Hart) had coined most of The Monkees‘ songs, SMASHED GLADYS began rehearsing at a well-known studio in midtown Manhattan. SMASHED GLADYS started playing venues in and around the NYC area, during which time they met Gene Simmons, who offered them a production/management deal. The band’s original 4 members: Sally Cato (vocals), Bart Lewis (guitar), Matt Stellutto (drums) and Ken Fox (bass) from Toronto’s Raving Mojo’s, Jason and the Scorchers and The Fleshtones, along with the addition of Hilly Michaels, drummer from the Ian Hunter band – went into the studio and recorded close to an album’s worth of material produced by Gene Simmons. After Gene Simmons had produced their demo tape he presented them to the (Wolverhampton based English record company) Heavy Metal America. After the release of their debut album, the band started touring in the US. They played with CHEAP TRICK. They played in almost every joint in New York, and through playing live they got the recognition that they were looking for. In 1986 they also played in New York, in the Cat Club. The band was joined on stage by Anton Fig, Richie Scarlett and Ace Frehley (all FREHLEY’S COMET band for the encores, playing KISS classic “Cold Gin” and ACE FREHLEY’S classic “Rip It Out”. In 1988 the band signed by the major Elektra label and released their second album "Social Intercourse" the same year.
