Bio:

Khymera formed in 2003.Dennis Ward is an American bass player and music producer. He is known for his various works as a producer for heavy metal and hard rock bands in Europe, as well as for being the bassist and founder of the band Pink Cream 69. Dennis is also currently working with a new band formed in with ex-Helloween members Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen called Unisonic. He also performs lead vocals for the AOR studio project Khymera.

Album:

Khymera’s self-titled debut album, released two and a half years ago, was not only one of the best albums of 2003, it was certainly one of the best albums ever released by our favourite Italian label, Frontiers Records. The combination of quality songs, brilliant performances by Daniele Liverani and Steve Walsh and the assistance of Mike Slamer in the mixing and producing departments led to an unbelievable strong album, that ended up as 11th best album in our poll of that year. That was then and this new album, promisingly titled “A New Promise”, is now. What was born as a studio project has now evolved into a full band, featuring the talents of Daniele Liverani (k, b), Dennis Ward (v), Tommy Ermolli (g) and Dario Ciccioni (d). Conspicuous is the part of Dennis Ward. We all know him as the bass player of Pink Cream 69, but here he is the man behind the mike and it has to be admitted: he does a wonderful job (sometimes reminding me of Bryan Adams). Once again the songs are gathered from some of the best songwriters in the field of AOR and melodic rock. Robin and Judithe Randall (“If You Dare To Dream”), Jeff Scott Soto (“You Can’t Take Me”) and Don Barnes (“Looking For You” and “After The Way”) have all contributed, but the bulk of the songs came from the brothers Tom and James Martin, who penned songs for such artists as the Dutch Do (an incredible good female vocalist!) and the British Ronan Keating (we all secretly know him, don’t we?). As far as the songs go, I can’t say this album is less good than the first one. But what about the musicianship? Don’t worry, the four guys are great, although I like Steve Walsh more than Dennis Ward (but that’s only my personal opinion).Although “A New Promise” doesn’t come as a surprise anymore, it’s still a very good album in its own right, delivering all that a melodic rock fan wants and even more.Good melodic rock record... I especially enjoy listening to songs like Alone & Looking for you. Good production and good singing of Dennis Ward. The backing vocals are great too and are worth to mention. And Tommy Ermolli seems to be a very promising guitar player.
