Bio:

Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1980 in Richmond, California.Spanning a career of 34 years, Exodus has gone through numerous lineup changes, two extended hiatuses, and the deaths of two former band members. Guitarist Gary Holt joined the band shortly after its formation and has remained the only constant member of Exodus since and appears on all their releases. Drummer Tom Hunting is one of the original members, and departed from the band twice, in 1989 and 2004, but rejoined in 2007.To date, Exodus has released nine studio albums, two live albums and two compilations. The band had particular success in the mid-to-late 1980s, and their first three albums (Bonded by Blood, Pleasures of the Flesh and Fabulous Disaster) cemented Exodus' reputation as one of the most successful thrash metal bands. The critical praise given to Fabulous Disaster garnered attention from major labels, including Capitol Records, with whom Exodus would eventually sign in 1989. Exodus released two more albums (Impact Is Imminent and Force of Habit) before disbanding in 1993. After a temporary return in 1997-1998, Exodus reformed for a second time in 2001, and since then, they have released four more albums, the most recent being 2010's Exhibit B: The Human Condition. The band will release their tenth studio album, Blood In, Blood Out, in October 2014.Exodus have sold over 5 million albums worldwide as of 2013.

Album:

Repress version of this issue from 1987, the disc is made in Japan for US market.Bonded by Blood is the debut studio album by the Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus. Although the album was completed in the summer of 1984, it was not released until 1985 due to issues with Exodus and their record label. It is considered one of the most influential thrash metal albums of all time.It is also the only full-length studio album of Exodus to feature Paul Baloff on vocals, though he was also on their 1982 Demo. Baloff was back in Exodus for five years (from 1997 to his death in 2002), and appeared on their 1997 live album Another Lesson in Violence. In 2008, Exodus re-recorded Bonded by Blood and re-released it as Let There Be Blood, featuring a new line-up of members aside from drummer Tom Hunting and guitarist Gary Holt who played on the original.Bonded by Blood was originally titled A Lesson in Violence, but had its name changed when a suitable cover idea could not be found. An advance cassette copy of the album (with the original title) was widely distributed through the tape-trading network upon the record's completion late in the summer of 1984, creating an immense underground buzz prior to the official release of the LP. The release was delayed, however, due to problems with the artwork. The song "Impaler" was originally to be featured on Bonded by Blood, but it was abandoned when Kirk Hammett took the main riff with him to Metallica (it was used on "Trapped Under Ice").The original album cover art was an illustration of good and evil conjoined twin infants. For the 1989 reissue this cover was replaced with the band logo on a red and black image of a crowd. The album was remastered and re-issued by Century Media in 1999 in Europe only, with two live tracks from its Combat re-release in 1989, featuring Steve Souza on vocals. This reissue from Century Media restored the original twin cover artwork.Bonded by Blood received a positive review from Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic, who states: "Had it been released immediately after it was recorded in 1984, Exodus' Bonded by Blood might be regarded today alongside Metallica's Kill 'Em All as one of the landmark albums responsible for launching the thrash metal wave" and adds that "Exodus were left to wonder what kind of impact they may have had without these setbacks." Rivadavia also described Bonded by Blood as "an album whose influence far exceeds its actual notoriety, and it remains a crucial piece of the thrash metal puzzle – essential."Bernard Doe of Metal Forces in 1985 defined it "a classic album in the thrash metal sense which is sure to be sneered at by the unconverted and mainstream media."In 2013, Bonded by Blood was ranked number 8 on Whatculture!'s "10 Greatest Thrash Metal Albums of All Time",and was ranked number 80 on Metalrules.com's 'Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums'.In August 2014, Revolver placed the album on its "14 Thrash Albums You Need to Own" list. The album was ranked number one on Loudwire's top ten list of "Thrash Albums NOT Released by the Big 4".In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked Bonded by Blood as 45th on their list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".Thrash metal revival act Bonded by Blood named themselves after the album.

Album:

Pleasures of the Flesh is the second album by the American thrash metal band Exodus. Released in 1987, it is the group's first album to feature Steve Souza on vocals. The record was remastered and re-issued by Century Media in 1998 for distribution in Europe only.Pleasures of the Flesh was to originally feature cover art with an illustration of the band depicted as cannibals preparing and eating their meal. However, prior to release, the cover was replaced with a photo of the group members leaning on a bar. Just before the record's issuance, the original album cover was promoted by the record company in music magazines with the headline "Metal's Heaviest Meal". It was also available as a limited edition picture disc LP.The writing and recording sessions for Pleasures of the Flesh took two years to complete. The album's release was delayed numerous times when Exodus continued touring in support of Bonded by Blood, and singer Paul Baloff had left the band just prior to the recording sessions, which began in 1987. There are several demos of songs from the album with Baloff circulating on the internet. Although he did not perform on the album, Baloff was credited on the tracks "Seeds of Hate", "Pleasures of the Flesh" and "Brain Dead".Following the release of Pleasures of the Flesh, Exodus toured for less than a year to promote it. They embarked on a month-long U.S. tour with Celtic Frost and Anthrax. The band toured the U.S. again in January and February 1988, this time with M.O.D. as a supporting act, which was followed three months later by a European tour with Lääz Rockit.Pleasures of the Flesh received a negative review from Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia, who awarded the album two stars out of five, and called it a "very disappointing release." He added that the album "left little hope for the future, but incredibly, Exodus would rebound with excellent results on 1989's Fabulous Disaster."Pleasures of the Flesh would also enter the Billboard 200.The album itself peaked at #82.

Album:

Fabulous Disaster is the third studio album by Exodus. It was released on January 30, 1989 on the UK label Music for Nations, while the US version was released on Combat/Relativity Records. In 1999, Century Media remastered and reissued the band's first three albums in Europe only.Fabulous Disaster was Tom Hunting's last release with Exodus until the 1997 live album Another Lesson in Violence. Additionally, it was the first Exodus album not to feature a lineup change from after one consecutive studio album, and one of two albums to include two song covers (the other being 1992's Force of Habit).Exodus toured for five months to promote Fabulous Disaster. The band embarked on a month-long European tour with Nuclear Assault and Acid Reign. In the spring of 1989, Exodus landed a supporting slot for the Headbangers Ball tour with Anthrax and Helloween, exposing the band to a wide thrash metal audience. Exodus then embarked on another North American tour, which lasted from May to July 1989; supporting acts were Sick of It All, Faith or Fear, Forbidden, Dead Orchestra and Wehrmacht. The band wrapped up the tour at The Fillmore on July 14, 1989; this show was recorded on the band's first live album Good Friendly Violent Fun, which was released two years later.Fabulous Disaster received a positive review from AllMusic's Eduardo Rivadavia, who awarded the album four stars out of five, and stated that Exodus "went on to create their most diverse and carefully conceived effort yet, while remaining faithful to their no-frills thrash ethic." He then added that "the album represented the realization of their vision, as well as their commercial peak" but "still failed to gain them their well-deserved place alongside such thrash metal giants as Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer." Fabulous Disaster debuted at #82 on the Billboard 200.No singles were released to promote the album, but the songs "Toxic Waltz" and "Low Rider" got regular airplay on radio stations, including Los Angeles, California radio station KNAC.A video was made for "The Toxic Waltz", which received a good amount of airplay on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. All music is composed by Gary Holt, except where noted.

Album:

Impact Is Imminent is the fourth studio album by thrash metal band Exodus, released in 1990. Impact Is Imminent was Exodus' first album on Capitol Records as well as their first album to feature John Tempesta on drums, and their last to feature Rob McKillop on bass, though he appeared on their first live album, Good Friendly Violent Fun, which was recorded live in 1989 but not released until 1991. It was re-released in 2008 in a limited edition mini-album packaging to resemble the original vinyl release, including the inner sleeve.Exodus spent the latter half of 1990 touring in support of Impact Is Imminent. The band opened for funk rock act Red Hot Chili Peppers (who were labelmates with Exodus at the time) at The Kaiser Center in Oakland on July 21, 1990.Exodus was part of two major tours: in August 1990, they toured the U.S. with Suicidal Tendencies and Pantera (who had just released the most successful records of their respective careers: Lights...Camera...Revolution! and Cowboys from Hell), and three months later, they toured Europe with Flotsam and Jetsam, Vio-Lence and Forbidden.Exodus wrapped up the tour on December 28, 1990 at The Fillmore. The band was scheduled to tour in early 1991 with Judas Priest and Annihilator on the European Painkiller tour, but they were dropped from the tour and replaced by Pantera because their label refused to pay tour support.Impact Is Imminent received a negative review from Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia, who awarded the album one-and-a-half stars out of five and called it "the most forgettable album of Exodus' career."Despite being released on a major label, Impact Is Imminent was not as successful as Fabulous Disaster and debuted at No. 137 on the Billboard 200, Exodus' lowest chart position to date.Impact Is Imminent would be Exodus' last album to enter the Billboard 200, until 2014's Blood In, Blood Out.Although Gary Holt expressed his dislike for the album during the making of Exhibit B: The Human Condition, saying, "If there was one album I could have back and record again it would be Impact ". He praised it for having "some of the best riffs I've ever written".Hold restated his opinion about the record on April 30, 2020 during an interview with Robb Flynn of Machinehead. "I listen back to ‘Impact Is Imminent,’ and if there’s one album in my career I wish I had back like if it had never been released – it’s that album. Because it’s got some of the best riffs I ever wrote. I mean, the main riff on ‘Impact Is Imminent’ is my favorite riff I’ve ever written. The string skipping, no one had ever done that shit. All music is composed by Gary Holt.

Album:

Force of Habit is the fifth studio album by American thrash metal band Exodus, released on August 17, 1992 by Capitol Records in the USA, and Toshiba-EMI in Japan. The songs are a departure from the thrash metal style for Exodus, slower and more experimental. Many of the song titles are common figures of speech.Force of Habit is Exodus's last release until their 1997 live album Another Lesson in Violence and their last studio album until 2004's Tempo of the Damned, since the band went on two extended hiatuses. This is Exodus's last album to feature John Tempesta on drums and is also their only album to feature Mike Butler on bass as well as the band's only release without the jagged edged "Exodus" logo that had appeared on all of the band's previous and subsequent releases. It was later re-released in 2008 in a limited edition mini-album packaging to resemble the original vinyl release, including the inner sleeve. This version was remastered and includes the bonus tracks from the Japanese release. Force of Habit was also the second and last Exodus album to include more than one cover song (the other being 1989's Fabulous Disaster).Force of Habit received a mixed review from AllMusic's Roch Parisien, who awarded the album three stars out of five, and stated that "Exodus slows the pace a notch, drops the guitars a register, and gives the thrash a little room to breathe."However, Gary Holt stated on Metal Evolution that Force of Habit is his least favorite Exodus album.Force of Habit was the first Exodus album not to chart on the Billboard 200 since 1985's Bonded by Blood.

Album:

Tempo of the Damned is the sixth studio album by thrash metal band Exodus.Tempo of the Damned marked their first full-length album of new material since 1992's Force of Habit. This is Exodus' first studio album to feature Jack Gibson on bass. This album is also the result of Steve "Zetro" Souza's return to the band, after Exodus reunited with Bonded by Blood-era lead singer Paul Baloff for the release of their live album Another Lesson in Violence in 1997. Baloff died of a stroke in 2002 and Souza was invited back into the band, although this would prove to be the last album to feature him until 2014's Blood In, Blood Out, for he abandoned the group during their tour in South America in support of the album. Tempo of the Damned was also the last Exodus album to feature longtime guitarist Rick Hunolt. He returned to the band for their European tour in the summer of 2012, but did not officially rejoin. Although this album was also the last to feature drummer Tom Hunting before his second departure, he would later rejoin the band in 2007. Souza would rejoin Exodus as well after his replacement Rob Dukes was fired from the band in 2014.Tempo of the Damned also marks Exodus' only studio album to contain a song credited to founding member Kirk Hammett, who found greater recognition as a member of Metallica. The others are their 1982 Demo cassette and the 1997 live release, Another Lesson in Violence; the latter featured the song "Impaler". Hammett brought one of "Impaler"'s riffs to the Metallica song "Trapped Under Ice", which was released on their 1984 album Ride the Lightning. Music videos were filmed for the songs "War is my Shepherd" and "Throwing Down," which largely consists of a jam performance.Tempo of the Damned received a positive review from Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia, who awarded the album three stars out of five, saying "all of the much loved Exodus hallmarks are here: lyrics filled with biting, sarcastic social commentary: no-fuss, jagged thrash metal; and unparalleled technical precision." He then finished his review by saying that the album "successfully resurrects Exodus as the potent and formidable thrash machine of old."Tempo of the Damned sold almost 2,600 copies in its first week of release in the U.S.and over 14,300 copies by September 13th, 2004 in the U.S.

Album:

Shovel Headed Kill Machine is the seventh studio album by the American thrash metal band Exodus, released on October 4, 2005 through Nuclear Blast. This album comes after a huge change in the band's lineup. Therefore, this is the first album to feature new vocalist Rob Dukes, after the departure of Steve "Zetro" Souza during the band's South American tour in support of the band's previous album Tempo of the Damned. It is also the band's first studio album not to feature Rick Hunolt on guitars, with Lee Altus as his replacement, and the only Exodus album to feature Paul Bostaph on drums after Tom Hunting's second departure as a result of the reoccurrence of the illness that prompted him to depart in 1989. Shovel Headed Kill Machine sold over 3,000 copies in its first week of release in the U.S.In a review in Terrorizer, the album was praised as "a tremendous effort in its own right and an air guitarist's wet dream".Call me crazy but I like this more than Tempo of the Damned which was surely the 2005 album of the year! Rick, Hunting and Zetro - three vintage members of Exodus have left leaving only Gary Holt from the original Exodus of yesteryear and Jack Gibson (bassist) picked up for Tempo Of The Damned (also plays in A Lesson In Violence). Three new members have entered the realms of Exodus - Lee Altus of Heathen fame, Paul Bastoph best known for his stint in Slayer and previously unheard of vocalist Rob Dukes.Any metal fan wouldn't be worried about either Paul or Lee as they are of course thrash veterans and excellent at what they do. Then again, there's also a guy who has never been seen earlier in a metal band (or a band) of any kind - Rob Dukes. Is this guy up to the levels of Zetro or not? I'll give this to you straight off the platter - he isn't the easiest vocalist to digest. At first you'd believe he's imitating Zetro but falls short but after many listens you'd realize that this guy's voice is better, more manly and rough therefore perfectly suiting the music style here which I believe Zetro wouldn't have fitted in. The production is absolutely perfect unleashing the monster within the album in terms of brutality. The guitar tone is like Heathen's guitar tone for their latest demo but EVEN heavier. Rob Dukes snarls his way through in the most inhumane way and the riffs are as heavy as a ton of bricks. Solos really do the job just as Tempo did and though Zetro's lyrical sarcasm is missed, the lyrics here are pretty inhumane and brutal as well. I doubt any thrash album can be disappointed with this.On a song level, everything rules. Exodus experiments far more than they did with Tempo. Tempo was meant to be a 'safe' album for Exodus in which they just delivered what their fans wanted to get back in the thrash fold even though it was mind-blowing but this album has Exodus experimenting much more than ever. The perfect example would be the 8 minute 30 second thrash epic Deathamphetamine which has some of the heaviest riffs ever recorded. You can see the beauty of the guitar tone in this song right away. Opener Raze is as brutal as it can get and that solo there is pure class and Shudder To Think hits you like a brick wall with its inhumane speed and brutality. Also standing out is the incredible I Am Abomination which slows down the pace a bit and is more groovy - think "Throwing Down" off Tempo Of The Damned but 100x heavier and that chorus in Going, Going, Gone! Is tailored perfectly for a live concert. Shovel Headed Kill Machine is a incredible lesson in thrash the Exodus way, never have Exodus been this good since Bonded By Blood and it isn't even the same lineup as Bonded By Blood! Buy or download now!Standouts: Raze, Deathamphetamine, Shudder to Think, I am Abomination but the entire album is worth hearing.

Album:

Blood In, Blood Out is the upcoming tenth studio album by the American thrash metal band Exodus. It is set for release on October 14, 2014 through Nuclear Blast. This will be the band's first album with vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza since 2004's Tempo of the Damned. The album also features a reunion with original guitarist Kirk Hammett, who plays the guitar solo on "Salt the Wound".The album art was illustrated by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, known worldwide for his incredible renderings that have graced the covers of countless heavy metal albums, including EXODUS' "Let There Be Blood".The concept for the art was impressively envisaged by Olofsson based on the album title alone, as guitarist Gary Holt explains: "The concept came from Pär Olofsson. I fed him the title and he immediately came up with the final concept, and it's perfect! One of my favorite covers we've ever done and it fits the title and theme to a T!""Blood In, Blood Out" will be EXODUS' first since the departure of the band's lead singer of the past nine years, Rob Dukes, and the return of his predecessor, Steve "Zetro" Souza, who previously fronted EXODUS from 1986 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2004."I'm very excited to be back," Souza told Chile's Radio Futuro on July 8. "I'm really looking forward to this next adventure with my brothers in metal — these guys I spent 30 years with, on and off. So it's very exciting."Speaking about how being in EXODUS is different today than it was when he first joined the band in the '80s and even a decade ago, Souza said: "I think everybody's matured quite some bit, and I think, as we all get older, we all realize things that we do wrong, especially myself, we realize our faults and our mistakes. And it's great that everybody can come to a meeting of the minds and be able to work forward and be mature enough to work forward."He added: "The whole reception to me being back with the guys has been really, really great.""Blood In, Blood Out" will feature a guest appearance by METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett on the song "Salt In The Wound". "It felt really casual, really cool — just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day," Hammett told RollingStone.com. "Me, recording a solo on their album was a huge thing for me. Other than the EXODUS demo that's been heard by a lot of people, it's the only time I ever recorded with EXODUS. It was a huge thing for me."
