Info:

DISASTER began in late 1999 when Andrew "Morbid Dog" Alvarez (lead guitar) and Paul "Arklon" Pascal (drummer) unleashed heavy tones of classic thrash metal. Despite being a tough time for the genre, in 2002 achieved record their first demo entitled "Rehearsal", which raid in a new brutal style with old school influences.Through the years, the heavy project had several lineups changes, until reaching its current formation: Juan Camilo Gallego (ex-drummer of “ACERO”, and also current drummer of “PUBLIC ENEMY”), Felipe López Quiceno (ex guitarist of “ACERO”), Andrew'' Morbid dog'' Alvarez (ex guitarist of “ACERO”) and Esteban Arboleda, who in the 90’s performed with bands like INCUBO, AFFLICTION (now GAIAS PENDULUM) and also currently bass in SPIRITUM. In the 2015 Felipe goes out of the band and is replaced for Cristian Valencia and he makes a huge change with his brutal guitars. He actually is part of the megadet’s tribute band from Colombia and was a member of the great and brutal heavy metal band called FORGETSTEEL.The raw sound and anarchy lyric that represents DISASTER as a band are based on the human's role as head of war, death and destruction.DISASTER has performed in lot of shows and festivals sharing stage with great exponents of national scene such as INFERNAL, DEGRADEATH, DISSECTOR, ATHANATOR and DAYCORE, offering a unique load of thrash metal ¡never seen!In the 2015 DISASTER release his first full production called: "BLASPHEMY ATTACK" with nine tracks filled with energy, power, with its unique and classic touch including also a bonus track.

Album:

If there's one thing that's obvious about Colombian Thrash/Death Metal band DISASTER, it's that they're powerful. Within the first few seconds of the titular first track, "Blasphemy Attack", their full energy and ferocity is unleashed. The song begins with the sound of a traditional Thrash band such as MEGADETH, but quickly unveils the band's true identity as a screaming, shredding powerhouse. The technical proficiency of each member of the band is clear, and every instrument gets its time to shine in a good number of solos and breakdowns over the course of the album. The vocalists also work well together when one band member is screaming ferociously and another puts on a deep growl- this works especially well in "Burning Alive". But despite all this, the album unfortunately fails to become the sum of its parts. Many of the songs sound incredibly similar, with only "Dog's Life", "Burning Alive" and the refreshingly slow, instrumental "Valley Of Illusions" really standing out. The play between the vocals and the guitar dring the chorus in "Dog's Life" make it arguably the best track of the record, while the slow, methodical backdrop of "Valley Of Illusions" against its blistering guitar solos make for a very enjoyable three minutes. There are moments in the record where the shredding of the guitars seems reminiscent of the legendary IRON MAIDEN, like at the beginning of "Evil Mind". This serves as another example of how good the musicians of DISASTER are at what they do, and sounds even better as a result of the brilliant production. The guitars, bass and drums are all nice and clear and the vocal work is at the perfect level just below the instruments. The technical mastery of the instruments becomes increasingly apparent during "Satan's Spies", as a blindingly fast melody laid down by the guitar gives a fantastic hook of which DRAGONFORCE would be proud. A similar speed transitions nicely into a slower tempo in the subsequent track "50 (Point 50)", which makes further use of the screaming vocals alongside the deep growls just before a decent solo. While there are individual tracks on the record which are genuinely good, it's a shame that the album as a whole suffers from just how similar most of the songs sound.
