Bio:

Renowned for their fist-pumping, high octane live performances, Falling Red has earned a live reputation that has had them compared to acts such as Green Day, Black Veil Brides and Guns N’ Roses – A reputation that recently led to the band being booked as main support to Steel Panther for their entire November 2012 UK tour.Falling Red are a band that formed in the Cumbrian border town of Carlisle in 2007. Born of a passion for Stadium Rock bands such as Kiss and Metallica, the band developed their own style & began writing their own material. Quickly wanting to make their mark on the music industry, the band gigged relentlessly before signing a Management deal with Raz White Entertainment (April 2009). The band signed to Rocksector Records in Oct 2009 & released their official debut album ‘Shake The Faith’ in March 2010. The album received critical acclaim throughout the rock press – an unexpected fan of the band being Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) who particularly liked the track ‘Out Of Control’, giving it ample airtime on his BBC 6 Rock Show. Other DJs quick to hail the band as a breath of fresh air & an emerging talent were Jonny Doom (Kerrang! Radio) and Malcolm Dome (Total Rock Radio).Come April 2011, after gigging non-stop for a full year, FR released a 4 track E.P entitled ‘Hasta La Victoria Siempre’ through Rocksector Records. Each of the E.P’s 4 tracks have become live favourites, including the epic ballad ‘The Last Kiss Goodbye’, and the sing-along anthem ‘If You Aint’ Down With The Rock’. A music video was also produced to promote the E.Ps lead single, ‘Come On Down’. Off the back of this release, the secured a performance at Hard Rock Hell VI, as well as tour dates in support of Sebastian Bach, Magnum and GUN.The beginning of 2012 brought about a shift in the Falling Red camp. An unexpected line-up change saw the addition of two new members – Rhythm guitarist Jayde Starr & bass player Dann Marx. This addition has resulted in a much stronger and more concentrated image, as well as influencing the musical direction of the band, which builds upon the massive amount of groundwork put in by vocalist Rozey and drummer Dave Sanders. Shortly after announcing the new line-up, FR earned a slot at Hammerfest IV, before taking some time out to write new material for their anticipated second album. The band headed into the studio in September to record the first few tracks from the initial writing sessions. Around this time, the band decided to part ways with Rocksector Records.Soon after this, the band were delighted to hear the news that they had secured the slot of main (and only) support to Steel Panther for the duration of their November UK tour. A brand new digital single, ‘We are Reckless’, was released on November 5th to coincide with the start of the tour, and between then and the 15th, FR played to over 20,000 people at 9 of the UK’s best venues (7 of which were sold out), including the legendary Hammersmith Apollo.FR went out on their own headline UK ‘Rock Revolution Tour’ in March, before returning to write new material. A PledgeMusic campaign was launched in April to raise funs towards the recording of their sophomore album, ‘Empire Of The Damned’, due for release in October. The band smashed their target and hit 100% within 5 days of launching the project. As a reward to early pledges for helping them reach their target, FR released a new track ‘Lonely Way To Die’ as a ‘pledge only’ download. The campaign continues to run, raising further funds for the recording, which begins in July.Falling Red will be headlining at TBFM’s ‘4th Birthday Bash’ festival on June 1st as well as appearing on the main stage at Cockermouth Rock Festival (CockRock) in July.

Album:

British rockers FALLING RED are not strangers to this blog. While an indie / underground band, we have featured one of their albums years ago, and recently the advanced single from this, their brand new CD "Lost Souls".The band have been going since 2006 and toured with the likes of Sebastian Bach, Ugly Kid Joe and Steel Panther, to name but three, but are keen to show there is more to them than their previous touring partners may suggest.Yeah, this is pretty 'sleazy' (the American style) stuff in the vein of early Guns N' Roses, Skid Row and alike but also Velvet Revolver, Slash solo, and more. There are a few different strings to the band’s bow, meaning you get more than that same sound that so many current artists seem to be putting out again and again. At times there is a 'light rock', Melodic Rock feel, and a modern hard rock tinge to yet more tracks.Vocalist / guitarist Andrew Roze has clearly been influenced by Slash in his playing style, as there are several hooks in the more melodic hard rock orientated tracks on the album that sound quite similar to his kind of sound, while his vocals are definitely towards the Sebastian Bach feel - a combination which works quite well. There are solos throughout the songs which are pleasing to the ear and quite well written and performed. With strong bass lines providing a good bit of momentum to tracks without going into chug, chug, chug mode, and some able drumming and rhythm guitar, the band seem to gel well together to create their different sounds.'The Day I Lost My Soul', as example, is an anthemic hard rocker mixing Hardcore Superstar with Skid Row, then 'Alive' is a moody melodic rocker in a midtempo pace typically '80s.One of my favourites on the album is the single 'My town, My City' an acoustic, ballad-style song with some GN'R 'Lies' era on it, then 'War in the Sky' brings back the sleazy LA era yet played by a British act.'Enemies' is a really cool song which somehow I found similar to Poison – a tune that really deserves a huge amount of Classic Rock Radio airplay.FALLING RED aren't reinventing the wheel here, we find variation in styles for different moods which helps to set "Lost Souls" apart from a lot of others similar to it.While there are a couple of negatives (the album cover doesn't reflect the music inside), the differences in style of some of the tracks mean that hooks and riffs are not constantly reused, which adds to the re-playability of this CD.Despite being a self-managed release, the band have clearly taken the time and effort to properly produce and execute this new album, which is of even more credit to them.
