Bio:

Inspired by their strong musical bond Jonathon Barwick and Tom Brockman created, in 2004, what is now known as TABERAH. The bands sound and live performance is derived from a vast range of influences including the traditional heavy metal stylings of Iron Maiden + Black Sabbath, the rock n roll swagger of AC/DC + Thin Lizzy mixed with the over the top, tongue in cheek theatrics of Queen + The Darkness. All with a slightly modern and original twist. Taberah quickly became a staple act in the Tasmanian live music scene in 2006 and have now become one of Tasmania's top exports around Australia in any musical genre. In early 2011 TABERAH blitzed a nationwide vote then were hand picked by Lemmy Kilmister himself to open for Motorhead (UK) on the Sydney leg of their 2011 Australian tour. Other milestones include sharing the stage all around Australia with high profile international and national acts such as: Paul Di'anno - ex Iron Maiden (UK), Tim 'Ripper' Owens - ex Judas Priest/Iced Earth/Yngwie Malmsteen, Blessed by a Broken Heart (USA), LORD (AUS), Psycroptic (AUS), Black Majesty (AUS) Steve Grimmett - formerly of Grim Reaper/Lionsheart/Onslaught (UK), Elm Street (AUS), Darker Half (AUS) and many more national and international acts. 2011 saw the band record & release their debut album "The Light Of Which I Dream" with acclaimed Producer Joe Haley of Psycroptic. The record is a chronicle of the bands early years of blood, sweat, beers and tears on the national live circuit. The album earned TABERAH worldwide acclaim and immediately excitement began growing for the band's follow up.TABERAH spent 2012 recording that follow up entitled "Necromancer". Working with Theo "Scorpion" Batchelor in a studio set up within Jonathon and Myles' home during Tasmania's coldest winter months. The band then entrusted Joe Haley to once again handle mixing duties based on his outstanding work on "The Light".After spending 2011/12 touring Australia relentlessly, TABERAH came to the attention of Australian metal icon Stu Marshall (ex Dungeon, Death Dealer, Empires of Eden) and he was keen to help out anyway he could with the album and the band in general. This lead to Stu adding his mastering wizardry to "Necromancer" and helping the band ink a deal with German promotion titan ROCK N GROWL PROMOTIONS, who are currently shopping the album to industry figures.Stu gladly goes on record as saying "Necromancer is one of the best Australian metal releases in the last 10 years"TABERAH continue deliver a show that's full of fun energy, theatrics, wandering solos and plenty of crowd interaction. This earning the quartet a solid reputation everywhere of being a "must see" live band, capable of headlining big shows or adding incomparable spice as a quality support.

Album:

There’s a joke about Melbourne weather that says if you don’t like it at the moment come back in five minutes and you’ll get something different. That same joke could be used about the genres of metal that raise their heads on Taberah’s new album “Sinner’s Lament“. Taberah drifts between genres on this album in a brilliant way, and the result is an album so good in could well be one of the best hard rock/metal albums to ever come out of Australia. It only takes one listen to Sinner’s Lament to completely fall in love with the album. There’s a lot going on… and it is all great. The opening track (which the album takes its name from) is a clear indication of what is to come. It launches it a great thrash sound and then at times branches away into slow melodic rock – the contrast may seem strange in words but while listening it is pure ear-candy. This track will also have you head-over-feet for Jonathon Barwick’s vocals which at times border on the bliss once produced by Queen.Never afraid to do something a little different the pounding drum work of Tom ‘Bam Bam’ Brockman on Wicked Way gets into your head like a chant while Harlott takes listeners back to a more traditional type of hard rock. The album then reaches a new height with Horizon – a track that sees Barwick’s vocals and the guitar work of Myles ‘Flash’ Flood really lift the intensity of the album. That brilliant guitar work continues on Child Of Storm which contains a guitar solo that will have guitarists everywhere weeping with jealousy and while the sounds of Queen are again present, so is a fair nod to The Darkness as well. The acoustic opening of Dance Of The Damned is as haunting as it is mesmerising and when it picks up its tempo it makes pure hard rock magic. The brilliance then continues with the creepier vibe of Crypt and the symphonic metal/thrash hybrid The Final March Of Man.Heal Me again offers up an interesting opening, this time with a little bit of flamenco guitar, before morphing into some epic sounding thrash while the album closes with a high energy and fast-paced cover of Hotel California.Albums like Sinner’s Lament are rare. This is the type of the album that you can listen to over and over and hear something new each time. Mark my words this is the album that is going to show the world that Taberah is a band that deserve to be heard right across this universe. Sinner’s Lament is one of the finds of 2017.
