Bio:

Beyond God is a female fronted symphonic metal band from The Netherlands.Their music incorporates elements from heavy metal, classical and symphonic music. Heavy guitars, bass and drums are combined with symphonic strings, brass ensembles and beautiful vocals to create dark, atmospheric compositions. What makes their music stand out from other symphonic metal is that the heavy metal side of the music is at service of the symphonic and classical side. The starting point for creating the music is the symphonic orchestrations, instead of layering guitar riffs with some strings. Beyond God was founded by Ferry Guns in 2008. His main focus was to write the basic symphonic orchestrations. Ferry, being a drummer, soon added drums to these orchestrations. After a while he started searching for musicians that could contribute to Beyond God and turn the basic orchestrations into symphonic metal songs. Beyond God as you experience it right now has Meryl Foreman on vocals, Twan Smolders on guitars, Lukasz Kubaszak on bass and founder Ferry Guns on drums/piano/orchestrations. In 2016 they released their first full-length album called ‘A Moment Of Black’ and toured successfully in multiple countries, gaining fans all over the world.Since the release of the debut album, the journey of the second began. For this one, band cooperation would play a big role in writing the songs. They wanted to grow in their sound, making it more modern metal with aggressive riffs and a dynamic rhythm section. This all combined with the atmospheric, dark orchestral vibe and melodic vocal lines that characterize Beyond God, results in an amazing sound. The album had to have a close connection to the listener by touching life topics and via lots of power but with a wide emotional range, from bright dreams to dark fears. This was achieved by having soft bright sounds, dark aggressive noises and memorable vocal lines, all in one album. To grow even more, cello and choir were recorded. As something new and different, a duet with John ‘Jaycee’ Cuijpers was realized. The final results are truly satisfying! On the 9th of November 2017, the second album called ‘Dying To Feel Alive’ will be released!Even though guitar player Twan has decided to leave the band after the release, Beyond God is proud, strong and excited because of their new music. They are more than ready to hit the stage with the new material and to present the new Beyond God member!

Album:

Beyond God is a Dutch band that incorporates elements of heavy metal, classical and symphonic music. According to Wikipedia this means: 'Characteristic of symphonic rock is the use of elements from classical music, such as the use of classical instruments, themes or composition schemes' and' The symphonic part in music is mostly played on synthesizer instead of by an orchestra. '. And indeed this label can certainly be placed on Beyond God.Ferry Guns - founder and drummer of the band - has mainly focused on writing symphonic orchestrations. This forms the basis for the songs, later on the drums, guitars and vocals are added. This gives a particularly strong symphonic feel, with heavy metal guitar riffs, tight bass, drum parts and sensitive emotional vocals. With Continuum the album again has a strong orchestral opening and the song flows beautifully into The Collector. My minus on their previous album "A Moment Of Black" with regard to the transitions is beautifully solved. The entire album now feels much more as a whole; coherent songs with subtle transitions and yet with enough variety in the songs. The band has certainly grown in a year and a half - with many performances - and the sound has also become more mature and professional. Through an effort of all band members their music has grown with aggressive riffs and a dynamic rhythm section. Guitar solos are no longer shunned, we hear a beautiful solo on Helios by Twan Smolders and the bass guitar has a leading role in No Other Way.Although on this second album their own sound is clearly put down, their preference for other female fronted symphonic metal bands such as Epica, Nightwish and Evanescence is still clearly audible. Shade And Light in particular has an underlying tone that has a strong resemblance to Epica's latest album "The Holographic Principle". The title track Dying To Feel Alive has a structure that reminds somewhat of Nightwish and the vocals in the sensitive ballad All In All, but also in the rougher Stronger, has a touch of Anneke van Giersbergen. On this album the collaboration with a number of guest musicians has also been looked up. In the song This Inner Fight we hear a duet with John 'Jaycee' Cuipers, known from Medea and Ayreon Universe. Cuipers sings together with Meryl Foreman as brother and sister about their inner struggle. Also on this album a contribution by Anne Dijkstra on cello and especially for the album is a six-piece choir composed of Meryl Foreman, Ferry Guns and guest singers Anita van der Hoeven, Sammy de Grebber, Elsbeth Vissers-Valk and Yuri Foreman. At the beginning of 2016 Beyond God surprised us with their very strong debut "A Moment Of Black". At that time I wrote that the band stands out 'because their heavy metal music is combined with heavy guitar riffs and bombastic drums with atmospheric symphonic arrangements'. About a year and a half later, the band is back with their second album, "Dying To Feel Alive", in which they have pushed through this sound even stronger and more daring. Their music is at the service of the beautiful symphonies that have been composed by Ferry Guns. After recording for this album, guitarist Twan Smolders has decided to leave the band, but the band is livelier than ever to bring their music live on stage. Starting on Friday, November 10, 2017 during the release party at the Cocoa factory in Helmond.
