Bio:

In 2013 Alberto Rionda founded his solo project called ALCHEMY, while Avalanch decide to take an indefinite break. Over time the project has acquired the necessary ingredients to be forged in a band with all of the law. Alberto had two premises when choosing their companions: they were great musicians and great friends. Thus, the elect were Chez García (Alberto partner in Avalanch), Isra Ramos and Ruben Lanuza (Amadeüs members of the band) and drummer Leo Duarte of Cuban origin. The mountains of Asturias witnessed its first meeting to begin building the alchemist dream materialized in November 2013 a self-titled debut. Thirteen songs turned into an incredible sonic journey that recovered the atmosphere of works composed by Alberto Rionda, as 'The Cry of a Hero' and 'The Fallen Angel', adding new sound nuances that were carved in such works as "Death and Life" or "Malefic Time". In the summer of 2015 ALCHEMY returns to the studio to create its continuation in the record field with the album "Spiritual" materialized through the seal Mutus Liber. Again, after a wonderful cover of master Luis Royo, the energy of five unique musicians is transformed into songs.

Album:

Once upon a time there was a band that was called ALQUIMIA ... a (still) vague statement, there are currently at least four bands that share this name. And so it seems more than conclusive that the founder of the band we are dealing with today has immortalized himself in the band's name for the sake of sufficient differentiation. Alberto Rionda is the name of the good man and guitar player who has made a name for himself primarily through his work in the traditional metal band AVALANCH. However, this is considered to be virtually dissolved, so he grabbed his colleague Chez García (keyboard) and founded a new band. Obviously a possibility for two members of the band AMADEÜS, Israel Ramos (lead vocals) and Rubén Lanuza (bass) - the new addition Leo Duarte completes the quintet with his position on the drums. Although the band was only founded in 2013, the first work, ALQUIMIA, followed shortly afterwards - apparently everyone involved scratched their hooves and wanted to devote the music they loved as quickly as possible, albeit under a different flag. And: even if one could have let a little more imagination play at least in relation to the album title, ALBERTO RIONDA’S ALQUIMIA quickly prove that the quick release of the album was the absolutely right decision. After all, the album sounds like everything, just not about trivialities or quickly down-produced material. On the contrary, the debut sounds surprisingly meaningful and therefore looks a bit like an announcement; but at least like an energetic greeting to all established genre bands. Look according to the motto, there is not only us; we can also easily keep up with you, an explosive genre firework will be delivered, which should especially satisfy fans of a melodic power metal. Even the classically designed, soundtrack-like intro suggests that something big could be coming to the listener - and indeed, ALQUIMIA know how to quickly profile themselves in the following. Above all, they seem to play out their strengths in a targeted manner; so that especially Alberto Rionda’s excellent work on the guitar comes into its own. But the other members hardly have to hide behind their figurehead - especially lead singer Israel Ramos leaves a very good impression. An extremely energetic one at that - you immediately notice that he brings a large portion of lifeblood into his performance. From the ultra-clear pronunciation to perfect timing to pleasant intonation, everything is just right here.A potential sticking point of the album, however, is its rather long playing time. If you subtract the intro and outro, there are still almost 65 minutes of pure material, fairly evenly distributed over 11 tracks. One could at least assume that a little uniformity has crept in here and there - but that is basically not the case. Because whenever the album threatens to sag something, the listener is served a more than satisfactory hymn - like at the beginning LA CUNA DE ARCE. Then she raises the bar again; but the following numbers can also delight, such as the powerful LA PENITENCIA DE NOBLE. All in all, ALQUIMIA prove that they have a knack for many things - be it for extremely effective, captivating and fresh-sounding choruses; for the implementation of congenial solos, for lively changes of mood and atmosphere, for a maximum of variety with the same sense of style. Also worth mentioning is the generally richly arranged instrument set, which does not just consist of the typical metal elements. ALQUIMIA increasingly rely on the use of the keyboard - but that doesn't bother, on the contrary. And so even strong ballad-like numbers like DIVINA PROVIDENCIA or CLARO DE LUNA become a genuine, emotional show or radio play. It is not known to what extent the often-mentioned Spanish fire plays a role here - but these ballads, which are subtly aimed at heartache, work much more effectively here than with many other (English-speaking) colleagues; even if you take the trouble and translate the texts. Then, especially towards the end of the album, things really turn up again - here one hymn follows the next. The absolute climax will then probably be reached with the title LA MORADA DEL ALQUIMISTA - a homage to European Power Metal and so much more. Conclusion: With foreign language albums and the associated potential language barriers, it is always such a thing. Is it ? Sometimes maybe - but the band ALQUIMIA, founded by Alberto Rionda, is able to quickly resolve any doubts that may arise. Once again it shows that Heavy Metal
