Very good british Hard Rock band . A BRISTOL rock band that narrowly missed out on making it big on the American music scene is hoping to clinch a top spot alongside New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi.Five-piece outfit, Hunted, is among a number of acts to enter an Evening Post competition to win the chance to be the support act to Bon Jovi when they return to play Ashton Gate stadium on June 27.The band, whose musical influences include Nirvana and the Rolling Stones, first got together in 1992.The group is made up of lead vocalist Andy Milsom, guitarists Bob Starling and Dave Preston, Mark Williams on bass guitar and Woody on drums.Their first EP – Streets of Fire – was well received and the group entered it into a Radio One competition, winning a recording session at the legendary Maida Vale studios in London in 1993.Their music generated a lot of interest from labels in America, including RCA Records, which invited them to New York.Music bosses were talking about signing the band, but the group's dream was shattered after the A&R man dealing with them got fired.Mr Milsom, said: "Following our session with BBC Radio One we were invited out to America and went to New York. There was talk of us signing with RCA and us moving out there."We came back to England and waited a week, but didn't hear anything so we rang RCA only to find out that the A & R man dealing with us had been fired."We were all really hyped up about going to the States and the news sent us into a bit of a tail spin."The band continued to gig and write their own music and in 1995 released their album Crawl which was a hit across Europe and in Japan.The band was shortlisted for a song on the soundtrack to the Nicholas Cage movie City of Angels but was left disappointed again after film producers opted for a track by music giants U2.The band finally split in 1998 and went their separate ways.But 12 years later, the itch to return to the stage got the better of them and the band decided to reform, playing gigs across the city including The Fleece and Firkin.Band members have also been busy recording new music and are recording four new tracks as well as continuing to write.And they are hoping it will be a case of third time lucky for the band with its entry to play alongside Bon Jovi.Mr Milsom, 48, who works as a business analyst, said: "As our music has an American slant and went down well in the States, we thought it would fit well alongside Bon Jovi."The chance to play a stadium gig alongside such a big name would be a dream come true and to do it in our home town would make it even more amazing."Bon Jovi was last in the city in the summer of 2008 as part of the Lost Highway World Tour, playing to capacity audience of 24,000 fans at Ashton Gate.Competition judges this year are looking for a band or soloist to perform a 30-minute all original set.The winner will be decided at a special Battle of the Bands event at the stadium on May 17 where a shortlist of six lucky finalists will be asked to perform two of their tracks.The judging panel will comprise of a senior promoter from Bon Jovi's management, AEG Live, one of the world's leading sports and entertainment companies, Evening Post editor Mike Norton, and a representative from the stadium.Bands interested in applying need to upload a video or MP3 file – although videos are the preferred format – to http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/supportbonjovi before 9am on April 18. All entrants must live within the Evening Post circulation area and not have a current recording contract.The winners of the competition, who will be mentioned on the Bon Jovi website bonjovi.com, will also be requested to appear at the Evening Post's Bristol's Next Top Model competition.
