Bio:

VANISH has something for every rock and metal lover to offer. Traditional metal meets modern synth sounds and progressive elements. With this mixture, VANISH prove that classical and modern metal elements can harmonize. VANISH is a band that can look back on more than 15 years of experience on stage, in the studio and in songwriting, and has a lot of passion, diligence and creativity in their music. For almost a decade, the current line-up includes guitarist Tommy Rösch (guitar), Philipp Schönle (guitar), Daniele Dei Giudici (bass) and Ralf Nopper (drums) with Bastian Rose (vocals, keyboard). In recent years, VANISH have rocked a number of club gigs and festivals and have been able to score points with support from well-known names such as Queensryche, Brainstorm, Battel Beast, Mystic Prophecy, Vanderbuyst, Axxis, Bonfire, Freedom Call and Kissin 'Dynamite.VANISH tears the audience from performance to performance and, through the inspiring and authentic performance, takes the audience into their spell - who once saw VANISH, comes back again and again.

Album:

The nation of German has long been one of the most exuberant supporters of heavy music and can boast a very robust national scene; one of the examples of German metal potency is VANISH. Calling the city of Stuttgart home, VANISH are seasoned and finely tuned craftsmen of the intricacies of Prog Metal with a glaze of hard rock groove and swagger. With a legacy spanning over fifteen years in the European theatre, they are no strangers to the festival scene; the bands current line-up has been consistent for nearly a decade and they have been the opening act for bands like QUEENSRYCHE.And now they present to you an example of their prowess in the form of their current album, “The Insanity Abstract”, released by Fastball Music/Soulfood. From the opening note to the last gasp, “The Insanity Abstract” draws the listener in and takes you on a multi-faceted journey where traditional elements of heavy metal are interwoven with modern synth sounds. The musicianship on this recording is really quite something to behold; if there was a word that I could use to adequately describe this album, it would be “moods”. There is not a single shade of the emotional landscape this doesn’t seem to explore. It really is all here; technical and impressive speed, slow and catchy heavy ‘chugs’ with keyboard, peppered heavy rhythms that soar and dive. But I think that by far the crowning jewel for VANISH is the vocalist. He seems to perfectly articulate every track with what is, by all accounts, a near limitless power and range. At no point are the vocal melodies or phrasing ever bland or overdone, that common criticism of, “the vocals always sound the same”, is most definitely not applicable here.If I had to pick out the most standout moments of the twelve tracks, they would have to be “Make Believe”, “We Become What We Are” and “That Way Madness Lies”.Now I know that I have significantly sung the praises of this album, but I do want to confirm that “The Insanity Abstract” isn’t a groundbreaking release that is going to establish a fresh perspective to their entire subgenre. But even though they haven’t reinvented the wheel, they have successfully given it an excellent spin. This is an expertly produced release from a band that is clearly in top form, I tremendously enjoyed this album and I highly recommend it.

With a legacy spanning over fifteen years in the European theatre, they are no strangers to the festival scene; the bands current line-up has been consistent for nearly a decade and they have been the opening act for bands like QUEENSRYCHE.The newest EP ´Ageded Insanity´ is intended as a sneak peek, as well as a reference with alternative versions to her third full-length work ´The Insanity Abstract´ from 2017. It is also a nice debut for the new guitarist Ben Galster, who did that Veteran Thomas Rösch has replaced, and wants to smoke his strings next to Philipp Schönle. For the 20th anniversary of the band, VANISH and their followers are treating themselves to five songs. ´The Pale King´ is now enriched by the singer Alicja Mroczka, who recently had a guest appearance at HEART OF CHROME, and her powerful rock tube. The song ´Disbelief´, on the other hand, gets a harder push due to the death growls of guitarist Ben Galster. As the third and last song from 'The Insanity Abstract' VANISH present 'We Become What We Are'. The ballad was converted into a duet for singer Bastian Rose and legendary singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (KK’S PRIEST, THE THREE TREMORS, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ex-ICED EARTH). Great symphonics prepare the carpet for both of them for their appearance. Big metal cinema when two strong singers meet in front of the microphone. The fourth band composition, however, comes from the 2014 work ´Come To Wither´. The epic long ´The Grand Design´ welcomes guest star Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR, ex-GAMMA RAY). In honor of Ronnie James Dio and BLACK SABBATH, their classic ´Heaven And Hell´ can be heard in the editing of VANISH.

Album:

Six years after the surprising and extremely strong "The Insanity Abstract", VANISH are finally back with a long-awaited full album. The Stuttgart-based band is probably one of the most exciting formations in the field of melodic/progressive streams of power metal, which is generally said to have been wrested from the worn-out husk. Nevertheless, the five excellent musicians manage to keep their compositions highly independent on this "A Hint Of Solace", without falling into any clichéd traps when it comes to catchiness, or losing themselves in either theatrical symphonic bombast or rapturous pog-frenzy. On the contrary, VANISH blend the straightforwardness of pressing, grooving riffs with the light-footed, playful atmosphere of catchy melodies with uncanny finesse and elegance, thus offering an extremely exciting, long-lasting listening experience beyond standard melodic metal fare."Crowdpiercer" opens the round of "only" eight songs with powerful, rousing sounds, which are underpinned by a discreet keyboard - and immediately you notice that the experiments with already existing songs on the previous EP "Altered Insanity" unfold their resounding effect. The inclusion of guitarist Ben's screams gives the song that little extra bit of heaviness, despite the harmonious chorus, which is acknowledged with an appreciative nod of the head. Just as powerful, "Walk With Me Through Fire" thunders out of the speakers, which once again impresses with oppressive, harmonic riffs and gives singer Bastian the opportunity to show off his full vocal range, crowned by a powerful chorus that can be rightfully labelled "catchy", as you won't be able to shake it out of your skull for weeks.Act Live Resolve" is haunting and emotional, but with a killer groove in the midtempo riffs and presents itself unspectacular on the first, superficial listen, but after several listens it develops a dynamic and depth that was not suspected at first. The ballad "The Crossing" is a little easier, as it builds up monumentally and creates a cinematic feeling, in which singer Bastian's emotional intonation once again plays a significant role. Even if you're not a big fan of ballads - and certainly not of those that easily break the six-minute mark - you can't help but surrender to the goosebump atmosphere of the title."Voyage in Suffering", which really picks up speed towards the end, picks up the threatening, rumbling pattern of the opener once again and serves up a concise chorus. "Black Elaton" hooks itself right into the auditory canal and shows the somewhat rougher side of VANISH with enormously aggressive, almost thrashy riffing in the verses, to which the renewed discreet integration of screams in the chorus and bridge is exquisite and makes the track one of the numerous highlights of the album, not least thanks to the epic chorus.Only the varied long-tack "As Though The Dead Are Here", which forms the actual (musical) conclusion of the album before the atmospheric outro "A Hint Of Solace", which was the inspiration for the album title, doesn't quite hit the spot. Some really great passages stand out, but overall, the overarching arc of tension here may not quite cement the individual parts together into a coherent whole. But this little, a tad too complex, last drop doesn't prevent the album from becoming one of the early musical highlights of the year. The cogs on "A Hint Of Solace" mesh perfectly, starting from the finely balanced, eerily deep compositions of the Stuttgart band, to the oppressive, powerful production, to small details such as the wonderful cover artwork, which also stands out from the crowd, all elements of VANISH merge into a coherent and independent whole, which scratches hard at the top mark. When a reviewer sees the qualitative heights to which a band, starting from the first contact (in my case the second album "Come To Wither" in 2014), is able to soar, then one gladly stifles a tear of joy. In the case of VANISH's "A Hint Of Solace", rightly so.
