Bio:

Primal Fear is a German power metal band formed in 1997 by Ralf Scheepers (vocals, ex-Gamma Ray) and Mat Sinner (bass and vocals, Sinner). Sinner and Scheepers formed the band after Scheepers was not hired as Rob Halford's replacement in Judas Priest.Primal Fear was founded in October 1997 by singer Ralf Scheepers and Mat Sinner. Scheepers and Sinner have been constants in the heavy metal scene before the band was founded. Ralf Scheepers sang in the bands Tyran Pace, F.B.I. and the internationally successful band Gamma Ray. After a gig with his Judas Priest cover band Just Priest in which Mat Sinner and Tom Naumann helped out the idea arose to found Primal Fear. They signed a record deal with Nuclear Blast Records in late 1997. Their debut album Primal Fear was released in February 1998 and entered the German LP charts at place 48 thus making it one of the highest chart entries of a debut album in German metal. The same year they toured with metal veterans Running Wild and HammerFall. In July 1999, the 2nd album Jaws of Death was released. Shortly after its release guitarist Tom Naumann left the band due to health problems. During the tour through Europe, Brazil and Japan he was replaced by Alex Beyrodt. In January 2000, Henny Wolter joined the band as a permanent replacement. In early 2001, the third album Nuclear Fire was released. At the following world tour the band played in the US for the first time and were guests at the Metal Meltdown Festival and the Milwaukee Metalfest. The next album Black Sun was released on 29 April 2002 and entered the German LP charts at place 55. Halford-Guitarist Mike Chlasciak contributed the guitar solos for the songs "Fear" and "Armageddon". The highlight of the following double-headliner tour with fellow band Rage was a gig at the Scala in London. The same year Henny Wolter left the band and was replaced by the returning Tom Naumann. With this line-up the band again toured through Brazil and ended the Black Sun tour. In April–May 2003, the band participated in the "Metal Gods" tour together with Rob Halford, Testament and a few other bands and toured through the US and Canada. During the Tour drummer Klaus Sperling was replaced by Randy Black. After the tour, Randy joined the band permanently. In February 2004, the 5th album Devil's Ground was released and entered the German LP charts at place 67. April of the same year the band started another world tour in which the band toured through Europe, Japan, the US and South America including one of the band's biggest hits "Metal Is Forever". Directly after the tour the band recorded their 6th album Seven Seals in Vancouver and Stuttgart. It was released in Fall of 2005 mixed by Mike Frazer in Vancouver. To promote the album the band went on Europe and Japan tour together with fellow Power Metal band Helloween. In July 2006, the band surprisingly left Nuclear Blast Records and signed a long-term contract with Frontiers Records. As a "parting gift" Nuclear Blast released the best of compilation Metal is Forever. In February 2007, during the recordings for the next album New Religion the band decided after long discussions about the future of the band that Henny Wolter would return as 2nd guitarist and Tom Naumann would leave the band. The album was finished under the direction of producer Mat Sinner and engineer and co-producer Charlie Bauerfeind and was mixed by Roland Prent in the Galaxy Studios in Belgium. It was released in September 2007 and entered the German LP charts at place 60. They started their New Religion tour as co-headliner of the sold out ProgPower USA (PPUSA) VIII festival in Atlanta, US. Afterwards they toured together with U.D.O. through Europe. They continued the tour in January 2008 due to the band's 10th birthday and once again toured through Europe.Early March 2008, the band announced that longtime guitarist Stefan Leibing had left the band because he wanted to spend more time with his family and his business. On future releases and tours he would be replaced by Swedish guitarist Magnus Karlsson, who already contributed 2 guitar solos for the New Religion album. In December 2008 the band entered the House of Music Studios to record their next album 16.6. They said that "the music includes a lot of the vibe of our very first albums" and that "a new Primal Fear album always contained some new musical challenges, real surprises". The Album was released on 22 May in Europe and 9 June in the US. The Video for the song Six Time Dead (16.6) has premiered on 8 May on the band's official MySpace channel. The Album reached No.46 on the German, No.52 in Swedish and No.28 in the Japanese album charts. The band started their longest tour ever in South America, North America, Canada, Europe and Japan to promote their new album. A new live CD and DVD was recorded during every leg on the tour. In 2010 the band spent their longest time on the road in North America tour, followed by another European Tour in September–November 2010.On 8 July 2011, the band announced their next album Unbreakable. The album was released on 20 January 2012. The band toured extensively throughout 2012 in support of the album on the "Metal Nation" tour, of which the European leg included dates in Italy, Germany, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Bolivia among others. The band also played several more shows in 2013.On 20 May 2013, it was announced on the band's official website that they would begin recording their next album the following day.On 4 October, Primal Fear announced their new album Delivering the Black. It was released on 24 January 2014 by Frontiers Records. On 11 August 2014, drummer Randy Black parted ways with the band due to "irreconcilable differences" between him and Ralf Scheepers. His last appearance was at the Summer Breeze festival in Germany. His departure became effective on 16 August. On 13 June 2015, the band announced that former U.D.O. drummer Francesco Jovino would replace him along with returning guitarist Tom Naumann. On 22 January 2016, the band released their eleventh studio album Rulebreaker. In November 2017, Primal Fear entered the studio to begin work on their twelfth album Apocalypse, which was released 10 August 2018.On 3 April 2020, Primal Fear announced the title of their thirteenth studio album Metal Commando, along with a release date of 17 July 2020.A single titled "Along Came the Devil", in support of the upcoming album was released on 15 May 2020.On 9 April 2021, Primal Fear released an EP titled I will be gone, featuring Tarja Turunen.

Album:

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Primal Fear's new album “Delivering the Black” on January 24th in Europe and January 28th in North America. After some very intense songwriting sessions and pre-production schedule, the band started to record the new album in summer 2013 at the House of Music studios in Germany, with producer Mat Sinner and engineer Achim Koehler. The band then moved to Denmark in September to finish the album with acclaimed producer/engineer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Pretty Maids, Amaranthe) handling the mix.The centerpiece of the album is the epic track “When Death Comes Knocking” and the 10 minute opus “One Night In December,” spiced with big orchestral arrangements and complex sound designs. The ballad “Born With A Broken Heart” also shows a new side of Primal Fear with an acoustic guitar vibe and the addition of Liv Kristine (Leaves’ Eyes) on backing vocals.Singer Ralf Scheepers says: “We worked hard to create our best album ever. I already felt the vibe during the pre-production, that we were working on something very special this time! And now the result is just an amazing Metal album, I’m extremely proud of!”Producer/bassist Mat Sinner adds: “The songs, the production, the sound – this album is a very special one for me and my career. Album:

Frontiers Music Srl will release the new PRIMAL FEAR studio album, "Rulebreaker", on January 29, 2016. The effort will be made available in CD, deluxe CD/DVD and — in collaboration with Soulfood Music in Germany — on vinyl and a special super-limited vinyl edition featuring an eagle head on the vinyl."Rulebreaker" combines the strongest PRIMAL FEAR moments ever, with a well-balanced typical PRIMAL FEAR trademark riff vibe, crushing songs and some very ambitious musical journeys.PRIMAL FEAR recently parted ways with Brazilian drummer Aquiles Priester (HANGAR, ANGRA) and replaced him with Francesco Jovino (U.D.O.). In addition, founding PRIMAL FEAR guitarist Tom Naumann — who has been touring with the group for the past couple of years years — has now officially rejoined the band as a full member.Singer Ralf Scheepers says: "We have so much energy, fantastic melodies and a hell of a drum groove on each and every song. There is no doubt that the fans will love it as much as I do! And again we have achieved to combine bombastic and atmospheric orchestral sounds with soaring heavy metal riffs and licks, together with ear-splitting screams and also emotional sequences. We have kept the promise of being a heavy metal band with all the trademarks for which people love PRIMAL FEAR."After the massive "Delivering The Black" world tour, PRIMAL FEAR started the songwriting in spring 2015 and recorded at Hansen Studios in Denmark, with producer Mat Sinner and engineer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, PRETTY MAIDS, AMARANTHE). Mat Sinner adds: "We learned a lot during the 'Delivering The Black' sessions and the following world tour. We tried to put this know-how and all the positive energy into the songs and production of 'Rulebreaker'. Working the second time with Jacob Hansen and even recording in his studio, gave another dimension to our sound, plus the recording comeback of founding member Tom Naumann was the right move."Classic and ultra-fresh PRIMAL FEAR have created riff-rockers like the album opener "Angels Of Mercy", and groove monsters "The End Is Near" and "Bullets And Tears", which hit the bulls-eye from the beginning. The album features another untamed speed killer "In Metal We Trust" and the metal anthem and title track "Rulebreaker". The melodic and unique ballad "The Sky Is Burning" shows a different side of PRIMAL FEAR with a new vibe and a monster chorus. And of course, PRIMAL FEAR included again an 11-minute plus prog metal tour de force entitled "We Walk Without Fear", spiced with big orchestral arrangements and complex sound designs.

Album:

2016 was a very busy year for the German metal pioneers of Primal Fear. Followed by their last killer album, Rulebreaker, they went on a world tour where they played more shows in a year than ever before. We are the first Blu-Ray release of Primal Fear's first Blu-Ray release. We are in the USA and Canada, Japan and for the first time, Australia. Then we played a lot of festivals in the summer, continuing touring in 10 countries in South and Latin America and ended the year with more shows in Europe. It was a fantastic experience for the band and we want to thank every single fan who joined us on this great journey! Says bassist and co-founding member Mat Sinner. Vocalist and co-founding member Ralf_PeepersAdds: With a mobile cam in my suitcase, We have a lot of fun with you at the Primal Fear live experience on stage. You will find a lot of bonus material as well as video clips and different additional surprises, so we can easily say that we are very proud to deliver this package to you ... please enjoy and do us a favor: CRANK IT UP! On the last tour, Primal Fear delivered a performance as they had not done since the founding of 1998. A consistently perfect mix of energy, ambition and enthusiasm plus, of course, the legendary talent of each individual musician. Undoubtedly, the DVD / BluRay release contains a stunning performance with perfect sound and perfect video quality. This live album features a metal fireworks of the top class which every headbanger will like.

Bio:

In my view everybody in the band just did a killer job and Jacob was fantastic choice to mix the album!”Prior to the full album, the new single “When Death Comes Knocking” is due out December 2nd.

Album:

A lot of times, compilation albums aren't really worth reviewing because they're collections of old songs that have already been reviewed. However, when the compilations contain some fresh new material as well, then they're worth giving a review to. With that being said, Primal Fear have been signed to two labels in their career: Nuclear Blast Records from 1998 - 2006 and Frontiers Records from 2006, right up to the present day. In 2006, they released their first best-of compilation Metal Is Forever - The Very Best Of Primal Fear, containing a bunch of songs from the Nuclear Blast years from the first album up to Seven Seals. Now, they're releasing their second best-of album titled Best Of Fear, containing a large amount of material from the Frontiers years from New Religion right up to their last album Rulebreaker. Not only does this compilation contain 23 songs from the past, but also 4 new recordings. Three of those are fresh new originals and one is a cover. The new recordings are what begin the record. Starting off with an instrumental intro track with "Area 16" that sounds like the intro to an apoclyptic movie or video game, it leads into the explosive riff attack of "Predator". Both this track and "Thrill Of Speed" share the elements that you would expect from Primal Fear, which are pummeling riffs and that unmistakable vocals of Ralf Scheepers. The new cover recording is of the Heart classic "If Looks Could Kill". It's always interesting when a classic rock track gets a heavier treatment. The band have done a successful job putting their spin on this great classic with more crunch in the guitars and a pounding low end. After the new recordings, you get a slew of the many tracks from the last 10 years, including a hefty amount of singles and deep cuts. The first disc contains more of the band's heavier and straightforward material like "The End Is Near", "Sign Of Fear", King For A Day", "Angels Of Mercy" and "Strike", whereas the second disc contains more of the epic and melodic tunes like "Where Angels Die", "We Walk Without Fear", "When Death Comes Knocking" and "The Sky Is Burning".Greatest hits compilations have the benefit of serving as a quick introduction to a large portion of a band's catalog to a new fan and hopefully it will encourage the fan to go out and pick up the studio albums, but for the people that are already fans, many of them already have the albums that the songs featured originally appeared on and they won't bother with picking up the greatest hits albums, unless there's some new recordings included. If you're a die-hard fan and you feel you have to own every single release the band put out over the years, then go ahead and buy it. I'm not putting down Best Of Fear at all by saying this, I'm just stating the pros and cons on releasing greatest hits compilations. This compilation may only contain music from Primal Fear's last decade but much of that music is some of the band's best. The four new recordings will also be enough to tie us over until the band release their next full-length, most likely next year because they release a new album every two years.Highs: Over two hours of Primal Fear tunes of the last decade including four new recordings.

In my view everybody in the band just did a killer job and Jacob was fantastic choice to mix the album!”Prior to the full album, the new single “When Death Comes Knocking” is due out December 2nd.

Album:

Frontiers Music Srl is proud to announce the release of another monster heavy metal album from Germany's Primal Fear in the form of their new studio album, “Apocalypse”, on August 10, 2018!“Apocalypse” is Primal Fear’s 12th studio album and another milestone release in keeping with the consistent growth the band has shown through its career. Primal Fear, through years of hard work and a steady stream of increasingly powerful albums, has become one of the most beloved and respected heavy metal bands around the globe, a true metal institution. Their last two studio albums, “Delivering The Black” and “Rulebreaker”, saw them climbing the charts in several territories and receiving even more critical praise than previous releases. Truly, especially in recent years, the band has continued to raise the bar in terms of quality and musicianship with each release, constantly pushing themselves to find new ways to best themselves.Production of the record started at the end of 2017 and was wrapped by spring 2018 at Hansen Studios is Denmark with producer Mat Sinner and engineer/mixer Jacob Hansen. "My personal highlight of recording the album was the fantastic teamwork. Peaceful, focused and really creative”, says Mat Sinner. "No big discussion, no heated arguments. Everybody did a fantastic job and the performances were top-notch. This was the key to improve every little detail of the songs, from old school to epic, from modern to symphonic, from fast to slow - you will hear it all on 'Apocalypse'.” The guitars on the album are truly outstanding. Each of the three guitar players of the band - Magnus Karlsson, Tom Naumann and Alex Beyrodt - shine in their own respective right. Thanks to the fantastic mix provided by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Delain, Pretty Maids, Amaranthe, etc.), each player is highlighted. And finally, what to say about the performance of Ralf Scheepers, one of the truest and most outstanding vocal metal heroes of our times? "Ralf is more motivated and ambitious than ever before”, relays Sinner. "The band vibe is extremely peaceful and creative these days and this really elevates Ralf. He had the opportunity to try different things on the songs and even some extreme ideas, which are always welcomed. Ralf sounds good in every pitch from a very deep sonor voice, to a mid-range power vocal to extreme high-pitched screams, so we could fool around with all different scales and scenarios. For example, I think the vocal performance on the song 'Supernova' speaks for itself. The result on 'Apocalypse' is utter satisfaction paired with maximum enthusiasm and we’re really happy about the final result. I hope the fans will enjoy the record as much as we do!”

Album:

German heavy metal has always been one of my favorite subgenres. The crunchy riffs and bada*s attitude that comes with it is energizing and simple enough to keep every metalhead company for a long time. Veterans in the scene, Primal Fear have a consolidated career in making sweet, quality heavy/power metal, and ‘Metal Commando’ further solidifies that. The addition of a brilliant drummer in Michael Ehré (Gamma Ray, The Unity, ex-Metalium) worked wonders and created a monster of a supergroup. When you have a stacked lineup like these dudes, songwriting and instrumental mastery come naturally. Speaking of songwriting, a good balance between force and grace can be found here, thanks to Ehré, Tom Naumann, and Ralf Scheepers’ knack for power and the melodic backgrounds of Alex Beyrodt, Magnus Karlsson and leader Mat Sinner.Tracks like “I Am Alive”, “Hear Me Calling” and “I Will Be Gone” show the more melodic, catchy side of the band, while strong, no-frills power metal anthems such as “Along Came the Devil” and “My Name Is Fear” pick up the pace and reminisce the older days of Primal Fear, mainly ‘Nuclear Fire’ (2001) and ‘Black Sun’ (2002).Ralf Scheepers, as always, steals the show with his high-pitched notes and thunderous vocals. From traditional metal moments like in “Raise Your Fists” to “Howl of the Banshee” – where his voice needs to be more soothing and honeyed – the guy proves time and time again why he’s one of the best metal singers of all time.Since there are always pre-existent parameters to Primal Fears’ sound, it’s nice to see them leave from the comfort zone like in “Afterlife” and “Infinity”. Even if the song’s structures remain the same, the riffs have a more modern feel to it, and “Infinity” is as epic as it comes ranging at 13 minutes, something that the band hadn’t done in a while. The energy here ranges from laid-back, mid-tempo tunes to something slightly faster, similar to albums like ‘Unbreakable’ (2012) and ‘Delivering the Black’ (2014). Production-wise it’s something we would expect from a Primal Fear album, as Mat Sinner is meticulous and a perfectionist when it comes to sound as good as a record can.All in all, ‘Metal Commando’ sees Primal Fear trying to touch base with some of its roots, without losing the more modern approach used in most recent albums. It’s another great release from the Teutonic group and, despite being safe throughout its course, definitely has memorable moments. Primal Fear can do no wrong, and here they are proving it once again.

Tarja Turunen is a Finnish lyric soprano singer, songwriter and composer. She is best known as the original member and the former lead vocalist of Finnish operatic/symphonic power metal band Nightwish, founded by herself, Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen in 1996. She was dismissed from the band after nine years, on October 22, 2005, through an open letter written by Holopainen, that was signed by the other members of Nightwish too. Turunen responded through another open letter, which was posted on her website in both Finnish and English. The journey has just begun...

Album:

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR will release a new five-track single “I Will Be Gone” on April 9, 2021 via Nuclear Blast. The effort will include an exclusive new version of the band’s achingly beautiful ballad “I Will Be Gone”, re-recorded with former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen.“I Will Be Gone” gets an altogether new and deeply melancholic vibe with Tarja‘s unbelievably emotional performance, showcasing a different facet of PRIMAL FEAR. Yet it’s not the only gift they deliver on this EP; “Vote Of No Confidence”, for example, is an all-new, previously unreleased beast of a song. Clocking in at over six minutes, this storming, furious anthem gives a brilliant glimpse of things to come. Previously only available as bonus tracks on the limited “Metal Commando” digipack, three more songs complete this release: enchanting guitar instrumental “Rising Fear”; massive mid-tempo smasher “Leave Me Alone”; and heavy metal monument “Second To None”, making “I Will Be Gone” so much more than just another offshoot of a successful album.“There were three famous vocalists on our final wish list,” Mat Sinner comments. “That it was Tarja who got involved in this song is a matter of pure joy for all of us. Working together on the song and video was totally relaxed and professional – a great experience also because Tarja’s and Ralf’s voices go together incredibly well. Now, we can expand the “Metal Commando” saga with a unique chapter. We’re all really proud of this single.”The Finnish icon can only agree: “I was very happy to receive the invitation to take part in PRIMAL FEAR’s beautiful song ‘I Will Be Gone’. We started our careers nearly at the same time many years ago, and finally got a chance to work together. I love the song and personally it helped me to stay connected and rock again, even if at the studio this time. I really hope that people will like this collaboration and that it will bring them joy especially during these difficult times we are living through at the moment.”“Metal Commando” is so much more than just another album by a veteran band. The songs are too strong, the hooks too merciless, the refrains too huge, and their trademark phalanx of three guitars too indomitable for any meek kind of listener response. “We’re simply an awesome team,” Sinner laughs. The “we” he’s talking about are of course himself on bass guitar and vocals, fierce vocalist Ralf Scheepers, guitarists Tom Naumann, Alex Beyrodt and Magnus Karlsson as well as that brand-new whirlwind of a drummer, Michael Ehré.After six albums “abroad” “Metal Commando” saw the band return to their first home Nuclear Blast. Where some bands would give in under such pressure, changing labels for PRIMAL FEAR has unleashed a huge amount of sublime heavy metal energy. Heck, we bet this seismic shock was visible on the Richter scale! “We wrote and wrote and released quite early on that we had a lot of good ideas going”. Good ideas? The songs are bangers as only PRIMAL FEAR anthems can be – a sound that’s long become a trademark just got new, shiny alloys.New track “I Will Be Gone” showcases PRIMAL FEAR’s mellow, bittersweet side – available on multi colored vinyl, shaped vinyl, CD digipack or digitally. Let’s all take a deep breath now; soon enough it’ll get loud again on stages around the globe.

Line-Up:

Album:

Founded by bassist Mat Sinner and vocalist Ralf Scheepers, and completed by guitarist Tom Naumann and drummer Klaus Sperling shortly after, German metal commandos PRIMAL FEAR started to pave their way to the top as one of the most consistent acts of the scene in 1997: 13 strong studio albums, countless shows around the globe and last but not least neverending passion influenced their now 25-year way to success, peaking in the form of hitting #7 of the German album charts (PRIMAL FEAR‘s highest entry in their home country so far) and more top positions in other countries with their latest offering »Metal Commando« (2020). And there’s still no end in sight as the band is already working on material for their next album……but before the group enter the studio once again and to celebrate the aforementioned anniversary, PRIMAL FEAR will release a deluxe version of their highly-praised self-titled debut album from 1998 — remastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios, Denmark and including three bonus tracks as well as an extended booklet featuring liner notes and many photos from the band archives — on July 15th, 2022 via Atomic Fire. As first glimpse of the record’s refreshed sound, watch a brand new lyric video for hit song ‘Chainbreaker’ off »Primal Fear,« which was crafted by Gabriel Management. The album that contains guest appearances by Kai Hansen (guitars; HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY etc.) and Frank Rössler (additional keyboards) was originally recorded at House Of Music Studios, produced by founding member Mat Sinner, supported by Tom Naumann and Ralf Scheepers, and engineered by Achim Köhler. The iconic artwork was designed by Stephan Lohrmann who also cooperated with PRIMAL FEAR for their latest studio album and other parts of their back catalogue.

Bio:

In my view everybody in the band just did a killer job and Jacob was fantastic choice to mix the album!”Prior to the full album, the new single “When Death Comes Knocking” is due out December 2nd.

Album:

PRIMAL FEAR is a Traditional Heavy Metal band from Esslingen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. This is their fourteenth full-length album and first since the 2020s ‘’Metal Commando’’. Magnus Karlsson and Ralf Scheepers’s gang is back again with this new opus. After a slew of great albums starting from 2012’s ‘’Unbreakable’’ to ‘’Rulebreaker’’ back in 2016, they released an awesome live album but two very mediocre albums called ‘’Apocalypse’’ and the aforementioned ‘’Metal Commando’’. Is it the start of the downward spiral of this long beloved band? But wait there’s more…I make no bones about it, PRIMAL FEAR are in my top 15 favorite bands. You have one of the very best vocalists of all time with a very Traditional Heavy Metal sound, hell, the guy did audition for JUDAS PRIEST after all! I love the band, I love the vibe of the band and they give a killer live show. The band commands the stage like almost no other band. Their strength relies on a singer that can sing both live and in the studio without a false note. When the band is on, they are awesome but when they are going through the motions, they feel uninspired and boring, unfortunately. The first single is a big indicator of what will bring forth the album. ‘’Another Hero’’ could have been a B-Side from ‘’New Religion’’ or even ‘’Seven Seals’’. I am pretty sure I have heard these riffs before and they are just recycling or hashing out old ideas. It’s very cliché and the lyrics are kind of boring or unimaginative. It’s a paint-by-numbers Metal song that is overly produced and has way too many layers added. This song is pretty much an afterthought. It’s a big headbanger but it just falls flat. The soaring voice of Ralf Scheepers does save the album from total blubbery. He does a fine job on ‘’Cancel Culture’’, ‘’Steelmelter’’ and ‘’Fearless’’. These songs really stand out from the rest of the album, this is the PRIMAL FEAR of old, intense songs like they are accustomed to. These songs could have fit with any of their great albums, they get your heart pumping and your blood boiling. I am pretty sure these songs will be added to their live repertoire. I am also a bit tired of seeing songs with the word ‘’fear’’ in them, it’s getting a bit ridiculous. I know it’s like an inside joke and a sort of running gag but it’s lame honestly. We know we know, you guys are called PRIMAL FEAR, get over it!It’s a cohesive album, when you hear an album by them, you pretty much heard them all. It’s not going to reinvent the wheel and some songs really are great and you have those subpar tracks that should have been left on the backburner. They always establish their distinctive sound to an album, you have the faster songs, the mid-tempo songs, and the pure headbangers. It’s the formula, it’s their formula and it usually gives the listener something for everyone. This album has decent production but it felt way too overproduced and I think a fresh pair of ears could be beneficial for their next album. They can wait more than three years and really work on these songs and I think Magnus Karlsson should take a bigger place in the lyrics department. He does a masterful job with his solo project and PRIMAL FEAR would benefit from a bigger input by the main shredder. The lyrics are beginning to be too straightforward and unimaginative. The well is dry per se and the album suffers from the poor lyrical content. The album finishes strong with ‘’Fearless’’ but the almost 60-minute album just lacks direction and momentum. It’s always the same formula and you kind of want to move on to another band, especially after this release. It’s ok but uninspired would be an understatement. I enjoyed the growling parts in the chorus on ‘’Deep in the Night’’ but other than that, it’s just run of the mill album.I am still a fan even after three consecutive disappointing albums in a row and I would not hesitate one second to see them again in concert, I honestly think Primal Fear should give themselves more time for the next album and come refreshed. They are really starting to run out of ideas and the machine isn’t rolling as it was 5-10 years ago. ‘Code Red’ is a good album but nothing to write home about.
