Bio:

Power/Speed metal from Argentina in the vein of early-Helloween, Grave Digger, Blind Guardian, Running Wild and Manowar.Steelballs was founded in 2013 at Campana city in Buenos Aires (Argentina) by Juan Herrera, Paolo Rossi and Juan Pablo Churruarín. Due to unstable formations, the band added Lucas Galarza (guitar) and Nicolas Gimenez (drums) in the lineup. Almost a year without any activities, the band opted to get together and execute everything seriously. This time Mario Viggiani replaced the bassist Paolo (as he was not having enough time). With this new lineup, the band released their self-titled EP (containing three tracks) as limited edition CDR from NMT Productions in August 2016.

Album:

The dragon (old classic/speed/power metal style) has given an egg and this time it is Steelballs (earlier it was Saboter- Mankind is Damned Review ).The band is holding fast to the roots which go back to the 80’s & 90’s classic/speed/power metal style. Old is Gold and the band has proved it. Although they are new but the music sends you back in time. It will make you relive it every time you give this album a spin. This band is a tenement to the masterful musicians from Argentina. The EP consist of 4 tracks with total run time of 15 minutes. But trust me this is all the band needs to give you that classic metal high. Tracks are sonorous. Riffs are crunchy & crisp with punishing percussions and bass. Guitar solos are powerful & tough. They have a class which makes you get addicted to them. The vocalist possesses the power to shake you to the roots. Tracks are a mixture of high and low pitched screams and sometimes the scream has the opera effect in it. Their music reminds me of early days Iron Maiden. The style is aggressive and powerful. This stalwart EP is not ephemeral. The tracks & the tunes are going to stay for long in your mind. This EP is a cauldron for wroth. This band deserves a position on your radar. They just can’t be ignored.

Album:

Reverting back to the 80s, we have this Argentinean circus of five who formed in 2013, and released their self-titled EP in 2016. The fact the quintet covered a Helloween track (`Starlight) on that particular opus kind of says a lot about the sound showcased on this nine-track affair. I'm still not sure if that production is intentional but if one didn't know this band, then they could be easily mistaken for an act from the murky 80s. What you get here is 80s metal worship; from the logo, to the cover art, to the denim to the sound, everything about this is nostalgia, except of course for the fact that mimicry can sometimes be cringeworthy. Thunder Strikes Again is most certainly that, but it does have qualities too. From the off, we get a Germanic power metal vibe... A bit strange for a South American act, but one cannot escape the obvious nods to mid-80s Helloween, especially as vocalist J.P. Churruarin bellows and howls amidst images of glinting blades, dented shields and those surging guitar attacks courtesy of axe-wielders Juan Herrera and Paolo Rossi — who none of you will confuse with the Italian footballer from the 80s! It's anthemic, epic sounding and bridges that gap between Teutonic, chest-pounding bravado and sturdy traditional metal glory. Can't argue with it, but of course it's been done a million times before. With that being said, for all of its ascending melodies and macho pouting, Thunder Strikes Again sounds rather sterile, a tad forced and yet remains fun as the melodic speed metal chunks are rolled out by the barrow load and fed to the warriors. If, like me, you grew up on heavy doses of Kick Axe, Heavy Load, and a whole host of those European spell-binding legions, then you're sure as hell gonna lap up this behemoth of sorcery. 'The Oath', 'Ancient Fire', Out In The Streets', 'Farewell' and the instrumental 'Highlands Calling' couldn't get more stormy and armoured, but again, hats off to the leads and the stirring grey rhythms conjured up by this party of five. And yes, there are times when I'm bedazzled by the gleaming beacons that transport me right back to the good ol' days. These guys really know how to sew together memorable riffs, whether they are well measured chug fests or high speed rapid fire passages, and they are delivered with an authenticity — however sceptical I want to be about it all. Steelballs can't surely take themselves seriously with such a moniker and my concern is that with such a name, people may pass them by. For all of its generic connotations though, this is at times a bloody good listen.

Album:

Steelballs are a heavy metal band from Argentina formed in 2013 releasing their self titled debut E.P. in 2016. The bands debut full length album 'Thunder Strikes Again' was released in 2018, with sophomore album 'The Neverending Fire' a 2022 release.Featuring a sound akin to European heavyweights such as Grave Digger, Helloween, and Running Wild, the sophomore album from Steelballs is a barnstorming thirty five minutes of energy and oomph - the band bringing the storm with the opening salvo 'Stormbringer'. With the foot firmly planted on the monitor, 'Stormbringer' is a traditional metal gallop with a chant style sing a long chorus. What a very British sounding start from a band over seven thousand miles away from these shores! Just goes to show how far the UK's influence has travelled over the last forty years - I reckon to every single country in the world. Meanwhile, Steelballs hit the accelerator for 'King Of The Wind', demonstrating their prowess at the all out balls out fast and furious style of metal. Heads will be banging hard to this one for sure, 'King Of The Wind' an unrelenting and unabashed traditional metaller. Hitting the brakes hard, 'Strangers In The Sky' opens with a mellow guitar intro and soulful vocals, before adopting the mighty mid tempo foot stomping style of heavy metal. And the anthemic nature of 'Strangers In The Sky' really comes to the fore over the chorus break - surely a crowd participation moment in a live arena. And then whoosh, blistering pace lights up the album courtesy of 'Scream Of Freedom' - a scorching blaze of fiery riffs delivered at high velocity to bang heads their hardest since the album began. The electrifying upturn in pace took me a little by surprise, but that's okay, the faster and more furious the better as far as I'm concerned! The band indulging me yet again with the speedster 'Sword And Sorcery' - maintaining the electric whiz bang wallop of 'Scream Of Freedom'. Albeit 'Sword And Sorcery' is an instrumental, yet it's still gonna have the mosh pits in an absolute fucking frenzy! A more atmospherically epic and tension laden feel descends upon the album in the shape of 'Birth Of A Legend' - the one minute intro that leads directly into 'The Conqueror'. Which is an anthemic monster, the kind of monster that bands such as Sabaton and Manowar are famous for. Steelballs delivering their own majestic epic. And as the album draws to a close, the band give a huge nod to the iconic NWOBHM sound with 'Searching For Action' displaying a very strong early eighties feel. More mid tempo than anything else heard previously, 'Searching For Action' is extremely infectious, and will have heads involuntarily nodding, such is its pull. Ah the good old days - I can almost smell 'em! Bringing a very good album to a close, the band return the blistering pace of earlier, for the ferocious 'Keepers Of Eternal Flame'. Stirring in power metal traits with their own heavy metal roots, Steelballs crossover to mainland Europe and deliver a superb Helloween inspired romp. The combination of all out pace with the screaming guitars and higher pitched vocals sees the band bring down the curtain on their new album very much rooted in the power metal genre. What a corker of an ending.Overall, a fast paced and infectious ride of traditional heavy metal to keep heads banging for a very long time to come.
