Shocker is a heavy metal / hard rock band from the West Flemish town of Kuurne. Formed in 2018, the band released an self-released EP of the same name in 2021. Now, two years later, it's time for the debut album. 'Fractured Visions Of The Mind' will be released on 6 October, once again self-produced.The EP brought us a mix of heavy metal with influences of psychedelic 70s rock. Shocker now present their debut album, ‘Fractured Visions Of The Mind’.A genre-defying band, Shocker utilise various stylistic sounds.

Shocker is a heavy metal / hard rock band from the West Flemish town of Kuurne. Formed in 2018, the band released an self-released EP of the same name in 2021. Now, two years later, it's time for the debut album. 'Fractured Visions Of The Mind' will be released on 6 October, once again self-produced.The EP brought us a mix of heavy metal with influences of psychedelic 70s rock. Listen to the song 'Thrillseeker' and you'll know where the band is coming from. The first full-length features eight songs recorded by Pieter Nyckees at Shellshock Studio in Bruges, Frederik Dejongh is responsible for the mastering. Compared to that first EP, Shocker seems to tap it somewhat from a different keg and the songs are clearly heavier.After the intro, we are immediately treated to one such heavy song. 'Injecting The Parasite' gives the feel of 80s US heavy metal the vocals of Sammy Peleman, whom we remember from thrash metal band After All, are strong and fitting, where the grunts give the whole thing a more modern vibe. The song that has numerous twists and turns impresses. 'Stranded On The Borderline' opens with keys and develops as a somewhat catchy heavy rocker. Whereas the opening track is full of tempo changes, this song remains more flat. The solo piece is strong and complex and lifts the song considerably.'Where Shrinking Violets Grow' is another song with several twists and tempo changes. Sammy Peleman's high-pitched vocals are strong and the underlying keys gently give that 70s feel. 'Sands Of Time' is a nice heavy song, especially the riff in the up tempo parts is strong. The song has a hefty progressive slant and so Shocker brings quite a bit of variety. Time Does Not Heal' opens as a ballad, the vocal line betrays a turn and that is exactly what happens. The tempo gradually picks up and a compelling heavy song emerges.On 'Survive The Night', it is once again the vocals that appeal, what a powerful throat that Sammy Peleman has. Musically, the song has head and tail and again we hear strong guitar work and solos. On title track 'Fractured Visions Of The Mind', the pace picks up again and that, together with the opener, makes this song a favourite. Shocker closes with the song 'And So It Has Begun'. A song that is again full of twists and turns and mainly takes place in the middle tempo. The splashing guitar solo is great again.Shocker brings a strong debut with 'Fractured Visions Of The Mind'. Musically, the band has its own sound, and who can still say that in 2023. Nice and heavy with progressive influences, remarkably strong vocals and good guitar work. As the band itself rightly proclaims: "Shocker brings you music without borders. Influences from a variety of angles. We refuse to be shackled".
