U.D.O.'s follow-up album was Timebomb, and it was their last for five years.

Album:

25 years of U.D.O. is the perfect occasion for AFM RECORDS to re-release the whole back catalogue! Solid is the fifth studio album by German heavy metal band U.D.O. It is the first in six years when frontman Udo Dirkschneider put the band on hiatus and reunited with Accept.Accept's drummer Stefan Kaufmann joined U.D.O. as a guitar player on this album. Guitarists Fitty Weinhold and Jürgen Graf from Bullet were hired as new members. The album was recorded and mixed at Roxx Studios in Pulheim. The German traditionalist forge AFM Records has come up with a special Christmas treat, because fans of the oberture Teutonic doctrine will put the first four albums of the second U.D.O. solo phase on the table as an "Anniversary Edition" with loads of bonus material. The former ACCEPT grater already released four iconic heavy metal hits between 1987 and 1991, before the little bald head tried again with ACCEPT, only to finally become a solo artist from 1996 to the present day. The thing with the fifth studio round-robin “Solid” was not easy, because especially the 1991 work “Timebomb” was a hit in front of the gentleman. The fears were unfounded, however, because the good U.D.O. actually managed to create an iconic and deeply strong piece out of the ground with his no-frills heavy metal chunk on "Solid". The opener “Independence Day” can still be voted one of the best German Heavy Metal songs of all time and is in no way inferior to the great ACCEPT classics. The eruptive “Two Faced Woman”, the fiery galloping “Preachers Of The Night” or the final world-class ballad “The Healer” (with LED ZEPPELIN bonds!) Also belong to the pure German metal theory. The songwriting of the then ex-ACCEPT rhythm duo Stefan Schwarzmann (dr) and Stefan Kaufmann (git) was beyond all doubt and simply had the big problem that in 1997 no pig was interested in traditional Teuton steel. So it is all the better that “Solid” is once again coming to the stores as a neat “Anniversary Edition”, colleague Dirkschneider and co. 15 years ago were certainly ten times in better shape than you would expect them to be based on sales figures. In addition to a brisk live version of “Independence Day”, there are two extra demo tracks to marvel at. "Solid" still pops impressively out of the boxes and should be rediscovered urgently. Heavy Metal Is The Law!

Bio:

U.D.O. is a German heavy metal band founded by lead singer Udo Dirkschneider in 1987.Starting with the first albums Animal House in 1987 and Mean Machine in 1988 U.D.O. proved to be pure heavy metal without any Trend-Sound influences. Both albums continued where Accept had left off in 1986 with Russian Roulette. Apart from Udo, Animal House was recorded by Peter Szigeti (guitars), Frank Rittel from Warlock on (bass), Mathias Dieth from Sinner and Gravestone (guitars) and Thomas Franke (drums). From 1987 - 1989 they toured with the following line-up: Udo Dirkschneider (vocals), Mathias Dieth (guitar), Andy Susemihl (guitar), Dieter Rubach (bass) and Thomas Franke (drums). They toured with Guns N' Roses, Lita Ford and Zodiac Mindwarp.By Mean Machine (released in 1988) the band had a different line-up: only Udo, Mathias Dieth and Andy Susemihl remained. New additions were Thomas Smuszynski (bass) and Stefan Schwarzmann (drums).U.D.O. achieved success with the album Faceless World, produced by ex-Accept drummer Stefan Kaufmann. U.D.O.'s follow-up album was Timebomb, and it was their last for five years.

Album:

25 years of U.D.O. is the perfect occasion for AFM RECORDS to re-release the whole back catalogue! Holy is the seventh studio album by German heavy metal band U.D.O. It was recorded and mixed by Stefan Kaufmann at Roxx Studio in Pulheim and is the band's first album with guitarist Igor Gianola, who had played with Ronni Le Tekrø in Wild Willy's Gang. The band recruited drummer Lorenzo Milani after the release of the album; in the liner notes "guess who" replaces the name of the drummer. All music is composed by Udo Dirkschneider and Stefan Kaufmann. In 1999, “Holy” marked the third U.D.O. album in as many years. Sparkling with creativity, the ex-ACCEPT grater voice Udo Dirkschneider and Co were more or less well on their way back then. While the quasi-combo album “Solid” was still dignified heavy fare with many memorable hits, a year later they pretty much hit the toilet with “No Limits”. Although nobody really expected it, “Holy” of all places should be a return to the old ACCEPT days. Under contract for the first time with Nuclear Blast and changed in two positions (on guitar Igor Gianola instead of Jürgen Graf, behind the kettles Lorenzo Milani instead of Stefan Schwarzmann), U.D.O. shortly before the turn of the millennium, there was actually another powerful liberation.Already the anthem-like title track at the beginning of the album promised - similar to a cover artwork that was finally to be taken seriously again - the desired concentration on the essentials: Striking riffs, the barking Halford / Johnson voice of Dirkschneider and an incredibly authentic 80s metal vibe . The hyper-input “Raiders Of Beyond” with its irresistible guitar solo and the crisp mid-tempo drum “Shout It Out” surpass the previous material by light years. Anyone who thinks that this would be a big mistake - “Thunder In The Tower”, the speed reel “Back Off” and the crisp “State Run Operation” are also still very skillfully wallowing in the Mid-80s Metal fairway still cause tears of joy among the target audience. There is actually not a single total failure on “Holy”, and even the more average songs (“Recall The Sin”, “Friends Will Be Friends”) cannot possibly be described as bad, as they are still uncompromisingly crisp despite their slight imperfections Spray UDO style. The regained self-confidence can be heard during the final “Cut Me Out” - such a rhythmic, at first sight strange song would have been U.D.O. a few months earlier probably not believed. Thus, “Holy” not only initiated a positive turnaround for the people of Wuppertal, but is still one of the best U.D.O. albums in various collections today.

U.D.O.'s follow-up album was Timebomb, and it was their last for five years.

Album:

Whenever you hear ''U.D.O. is releasing a new album'', you pretty much know what can you expect. And when you also know, that the album is called Steelhammer, you can also expect that it's gonna kick ass. Well, here it is and there's no chance of speaking about a letdown. What you need to remember is that this LP was actually a test o strength for Dirkschneider. It's a first release in many years not to feature band's long time member and co-writer, Stefan Kaufmann and also a great guitar player Igor Gianola. First of those two doesn't need any presentation. The legendary ex-Accept drummer has been helping his old colleague with his career since the album Solid from 1997 and he co-wrote some of the band's best stuff. The question is: did Udo passed the test? Hell fuckin' yeah! The ugliest dwarf in heavy metal and one of the best singers of all time is back again to smash our faces to the ground! And Steelhammer is His best work since Mastercutor! And also the band managed to ''commit'' some interesting musical experiments. The title track is a typical U.D.O. opener - heavy, rolling and ballbreaking. And the second the choir in the refrain show shows up confirms our belief, that this album simply rules. The production is pretty decent but that's not a big surprise, U.D.O. never fails on that plane. Of course the lion's share of the album are classic post-Accept heavy metal anthems. The band's new line up brings two guitar players - Andrey Smirnov and Kasperi Heikkien, although only Smirnov managed to play on the album. His play seems to be right where it should, you can't complain about any lack of guitar power due to the missing of Kaufmann/Gianola (hell, some people may not even notice that while listening!). The riffing is heavy in some slow rolling songs (Timekeeper, A Cry Of A Nation), in others it can be speedy and sparkling (Death Ride, Stay True, Basta Ya). And those fast moments, larded with brilliant solos are some of the highlights of Steelhammer. Stay True automatically joins the ''Fast-as-a-shark-type Killers Club'' and it confirms Dirkschneider's vocal shape. It's amazing how the years are passing by and yet he still got the ability to yell just like 20 years ago. King Of Mean or A Cry Of A Nation presents him as Brian Johnson's monster clone, the songs like Never Cross My Way on the other hand proofs that Udo can also sing with feelings and sensitivity. That song is actually one of the most catchy points of the album. When Love Becomes A Lie stands on the same level and brings lyrics full of bitterness, written after Dirkschneider divorced his wife. Rest of the songs though brings subjects more typical for the band, like Metal Machine (they made a music video for it) or Devil's Bite. Now for the experiments, which are in my opinion the most interesting parts of Steelhammer. First of all - Basta Ya. Musically it's good old U.D.O. as we know it. But wait, Udo sings the whole song in Spanish! He also joins his forces here with a spanish metal singer, Victor Garcia. The effect - mind-blowing, one of the album's highlights! Heavy Rain is a gentle ballad based on nothing but piano and voice. Some die-hard fans may call it controversial, but since Udo totally knocked me down with his piano version of Balls To The Wall, I had no prejudice to this one. And once again this bulldog-faced screamer shows, that he can sing with delicacy (of course with some dramatic hoarseness). The wierdest thing is the album's closing track, The Book Of Faith. Strange pulsation and rythm (as for U.D.O.), bizarre sound effects and musical equipment and most of all the vocals! Udo sounds here like a combination of Bon Scott and Ozzy Osbourne turning into a goddamn lizard-mutant! Actually there's a interesting story behind that song. As it turns out, Udo had drunk one night with the band after a gig or something like that and then those vocal lines poped into his head. He liked them very much but he was afraid that might forget them the next day, so he recorded them on a cell phone. And as he said in one interview he tried to sing it many times after that night but none of them was as good as the original ''cell phone version''. So the band putted that recording on the album! But if you ask me, I like it. I like the way how odd this one song is.Referring to the album cover - being 61 years old Udo Dirkschneider still rules the metal world with the iron fist and seems unbreakable. So let us hope for more LP's like Steelhammer.

Bio:

U.D.O. is a German heavy metal band founded by lead singer Udo Dirkschneider in 1987.Starting with the first albums Animal House in 1987 and Mean Machine in 1988 U.D.O. proved to be pure heavy metal without any Trend-Sound influences.

Album:

U.D.O. is back with their sixteenth studio album, ‘Steelfactory’, which will be set for release on August 31, 2018.Udo Dirkschneider has been touring the world for the past two years under the name Dirkschneider, where he has been touring his Accept material for the final time. What was meant to be just a few shows in the beginning ended up being a full-blown world tour, with thousands of fans worldwide seeing Dirkschneider present his Accept catalogue live for the final time. With that tour nearing its end, it seems like the right time for some new material from U.D.O.; a good way to close that chapter and move forward with the bands illustrious 31-year career. With their new album ‘Steelfactory’ coming out at the end of August, it’s clear where the band have received some of their inspiration. With AFM confirming that ‘Steelfactory’ is clearly influenced by the band’s time touring as Dirkschnieder, it’s a good indicator of what we can expect to hear – a no-fuss heavy metal album with big riffs, big drums, banging bass lines and big sing-along moments.“Tongue Reaper” is the first song on the album and sets a frenetic pace. If you’ve read any of my reviews in the past, you will know I’m sucker for a classic metal album, and the 30-second introduction of “Tongue Reaper” is a great start. I’m also a huge fan of Dirkschneider’s raspy, grated vocal style and when he commences proceedings on this track, it brings a big smile to my face.Track two is “Make the Move”, and the first thing I notice is the punchy bass line courtesy Fitty Wienhold. Musically, “Make the Move” is solid track. It’s got a great riff, fist-pumping drums; and that bass is a ripper. The lyrics are a little bit on the cheesy side, but that is to be expected on an U.D.O. album somewhere, right?Tracks three and five are where things get a little bit interesting. “Keeper of my Soul” has a sitar or mandolin playing the main riff and has a dark, slower cadence. Dirkschneider’s vocals are on point and I really like how the whole song has come together. On track five, “Raise the Game”, the main melody has a distinct sound to it – as if it’s inspired by middle eastern music. Again, we have a darker, powerful riff keeping the track together. Dirkschneider growls “no more fear/no more tears” before launching into the chorus, which is one fists in the air, headbanging experience before we hear that interesting melody again to close out the chorus.“Rising High” is a fast-paced, soaring, fun song on the album. It’s full of classic heavy metal clichés and would be a solid heavy metal bingo candidate. Complete with fast drums, an anthemic chorus, thundering bass and chugging guitars, it ticks all the boxes of the prescribed U.D.O. formula.Another fun track on the album is “A Bite of Evil.” Wait. Is this… a song about werewolves? With lyrics like “coming out at midnight…by sunrise I’ll be gone” and “now my fangs are growing/my fur is turning black” I have a feeling we have a scary story for heavy metal kids here! Musically, this song is really well put together, but I’m not sure if I can get behind Dirkschneider’s retelling of Teen Wolf in song just yet!‘Steelfactory’ has thirteen tracks on the album and comes in at just shy of an hour. It’s a consistent album, following the precise formula that U.D.O. developed and replicated throughout their career. As an Accept fan, I appreciate the influence and hat-tip to Dirkschneider’s past with this album. If you’re looking for a no-frills, no BS album to rock out to, ‘Steelfactory’ has you covered.

U.D.O.'s follow-up album was Timebomb, and it was their last for five years.

Album:

There comes a time in nearly every veteran metal musician’s life when the urge to collaborate with an orchestra becomes irresistible. It’s actually quite surprising that Udo Dirkschneider waited so long to conjure a project as unashamedly overblown as his new effort “We Are One”, but if anyone has earned the right to tick off the few remaining goals from his to-do list, it’s the none-more-metal ex-ACCEPT frontman.Admittedly, the appeal of U.D.O. — Dirkschneider’s titular crew, on and off, since 1987 — has always been noticeably narrower than that of his former band, but he is one of metal’s most adored vocalists nonetheless, with a towering legacy and some of the genre’s greatest ever anthems on his CV.Teaming up here with DAS MUSIKKORPS DER BUNDESWEHR (the official Concert Band of the German Armed Forces), and with former ACCEPT colleagues Peter Baltes and Stefan Kaufmann involved in the creative process, they created an interesting spin-off: this isn’t excatly a ‘metal band with orchestra’, but a ‘metal band with a military band’.While “We Are One” is rooted firmly in the unapologetic catchiness and punch of traditional melodic metal, there’s a similar attention to detail and organic fluidity to the MUSIKKORPS’s contributions that makes everything sound wholly natural. The fact that these are all original songs, rather than fluffed-up renditions of old classics, means that “We Are One” stands or falls on its own merits.Assuming that you do enjoy the sound of a German heavy metal legend shrieking majestically over some thunderous, symphonic hard rock anthems, it’s really hard to find fault with it.Vocally, I give Udo full credit. At 68 years of age, he can still rasp and croak, sometimes sounding as nasty as he did back in the salad days of Accept.Everything from cast-iron crowd-pleasers “We Are One” and “Children Of The World” through to the stately grind of “Rebel Town” and the razor’s edge bombast of instrumental “Natural Forces”, Udo’s perfectly justifiable self-indulgence has led to an explosive and wildly entertaining celebration of unity, strength and deafening crescendos.Yes, there are moments that are so unapologetically cheesy you may feel like you are teetering on the abyss of a giant, iron-plated fondue, but therein lies the joy. We are one. Udo gets it. Now with added trumpets. And bagpipes.I’m not the biggest fan of Udo’s post-Accept career, but you could always count on getting a few fun songs on every album. Same apply to ‘We Are One’.

Album:

U.D.O., the German metal band fronted by ex-ACCEPT singer Udo Dirkschneider, will release its fifth live album, "Live in Bulgaria 2020 - Pandemic Survival Show", on March 19 via AFM Records.Last year forced many to face tough challenges, but U.D.O. managed to play a great show on September 18, 2020 under pandemic conditions in front of 2,500 fans at the Roman Amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, making it not only one of the world's grandest shows under coronavirus, but also certainly beyond compare. This is exactly the feeling that the live recording captures. The mood and emotions captured on the live DVD can barely be put into words. It is the only concert that U.D.O. played in 2020 and is an impressive example of what, with a huge amount of effort and planning, can actually be done during the pandemic. For decades, U.D.O. was renowned for playing up to 200 shows worldwide every year but in 2020, they too have been brought to a standstill.Up until a few days before the concert in Plovdiv, it was not clear whether it could take place at all. Could the necessary hygiene regime be implemented? Could the band, whose musicians live in four different countries, even enter Germany? What would it be like, after more than nine months since the musicians had seen each other (by far the longest time since the band's existence) to be back on stage together?"It felt more than strange not seeing my fellow musicians for so long and not playing with them," says Udo. "Normal is exactly the largest part of my life. It was suddenly switched off. The interpersonal relationships, sitting together, everything that you share with your colleagues away from the stage, suddenly disappeared."When, after all the trials and tribulations in Plovdiv, the band finally took the stage, a never-ending wave of euphoria from the audience swelled towards them, leading everything to feel a little unreal. "We just felt goose bumps," says Udo. "You could tell by the people that they could hardly believe they were finally going to see a concert again. The mood that emanated from each one of them and us gave us all an incredible boost. None of us have ever experienced anything like this before."The setlist this evening was also unique. In addition to songs that were performed during the "Steelfactory" tour, there were a number of tracks that had rarely been played live, and because the situation was extra special, U.D.O. delighted the audience by playing some ACCEPT hits."Live in Bulgaria 2020 - Pandemic Survival Show" will be made available as a CD/DVD, Blue-ray/CD and limited vinyl (audio only).

Album:

"Game Over" that's what rock icon Udo Dirkschneider (original voice of iconic band Accept) proclaims on his upcoming new U.D.O. record. The statement behind has got many different meanings. But one thing becomes clear immediately: U.D.O. is not doing things by halves and so they give everything they have. During hundreds of shows worldwide, some of them in the most remote places of Russia and South-America, the band has become one unit and a conglomerate of passionate musicians and friends. Each of them knows exactly, when and how to play his instrument to match to the sound of the band perfectly.Songs like "Metal Never Dies", "Kids And Guns" or "Prophecy" are precise, powerful, catchy and bursting of energy. And most notably they are timeless. All the songs on this record feature a distinctive character, that convinces today as well as it will convince tomorrow. And why "Game Over"? Udo Dirkschneider strikes a sour note on this opus. He is not so much into embellishment. If mankind does not rethink several aspects, it may have fatal consequences. For example "Kids And Guns" is about the increasing number of gun possession in the USA and the associated shootings, that do not stop at nothing and do harm to schools and especially kids.Without question, Udo Dirkschneider is a cosmopolitan and he sees the world in its entirety. Therefore "Game Over" has become an international production with and huge amount of greatness.

Bio:

U.D.O. is a German heavy metal band founded by lead singer Udo Dirkschneider in 1987.Starting with the first albums Animal House in 1987 and Mean Machine in 1988 U.D.O. proved to be pure heavy metal without any Trend-Sound influences.
