Bio:

Gengis Khan are an Italian Heavy Metal band formed in 2012.Their music is a mix of Hard Rock, 80's Metal, Speed Metal with a little Glam Metal's touch. Nasty Tendency's former members Frank Leone and Maurizio Leone, after two records published worldwide by Mygraveyard production and several tours with LA Guns (with TRACII GUNS, GUNS 'N' ROSES co-creator with AXL ROSE) and Blaze Bayley (EX-IRON MAIDEN Singer 1993-1999) all over Europe, created a new project like a sort of legacy after NT's split up. In the summer of 2012 they recorded their first album called "Gengis Khan was a Rocker" published in April 2013 by the German Label MDD Records. Before the official release the band published a video of the first single included in their first creature ("She's Got The Power"). In December of 2012 the band started a North European tour playing in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Czech Republic. In March they got into their second European tour, playing in the biggest UK's cities. They're actually working on their second album.

Album:

Great debut album.First off, let’s get one thing straight: Genghis Khan was, in all likelihood, not a rocker. He was many things — military genius, emperor, conqueror of many lands, and guy who killed a shitload of people. It’s possible that some of those things kind of rock, although the surviving populations of Russia, China, and the Middle East may beg to differ. Regardless, Khan lived many centuries before western music even existed, and there’s no evidence of him liking rock or metal (other than this, of course). Anyways…so yeah, Genghis Khan the band. These guys are an Italian trio playing what could loosely be called “power metal,” but is pretty much what we just called “heavy metal” in the ’80s, as we walked the streets in denim vests, whipped posers with chains, etc. Rocker is their debut full-length, but these guys certainly give the impression that they’ve been doing this for years. Song titles like “Into the Night,” “Heavy Metal Maniac,” and the awesomely-named “1984 in Tokyo” should give you the general idea. This is old-school shit like Anvil or maybe Accept, with a slight touch of glam/hair metal in the mix.Musically, these guys are certainly up to the task. The rhythm section of Maurizio Leone and Martin Castillo is rock-solid, and guitarist Frank Leone has that abrasive early ’80s sound down cold. Even the production is charming in a lo-fi kind of way. The real issue here is Frank Leone’s vocals, and your enjoyment of this album hinges on whether you’re able to acquire a taste for them.Gengis KThe songs themselves are hit-or-miss. The straight-ahead rockers like “Dr. Midnight,” “Leaving This Hell” and opener “What The Hell Is Going On” fare best, and Leone’s enthusiasm is infectious. I can picture a festival crowd of sweaty dudes fist-banging the air to this stuff. “Welcome in the Middle” is a gentle acoustic number, but can’t possibly recover from bad singing and ridiculous lyrics. I was hoping that Blaze Bayley‘s guest vocal on “Revenge in the Shadow” might make things more listenable, but sadly I was mistaken. Blaze has had better days, and I’ll just leave it at that. The album also contains four songs from Genghis Khan‘s 2011 demo as bonus tracks, which is cool but kind of redundant. Two of these songs are already on the album proper, and “demo quality” is not all that different from “album quality” in Genghis Khan‘s case.

Album:

Genghis Khan, as is known, is seen by some as a legendary figure surrounded by great respect or seen by others as a ruthless and bloodthirsty conqueror. It depends on which side we are on ... What we will discover is that it is also an excellent Italian heavy metal band!Formed in 2011, their first album '' Gengis Khan Was A Rocker '' released in 2013 features a track 'Revenge in the Shadow' with Blaze Bayley as guest. This first opus allowed them in particular to make the first part of the group Anvil in Holland. The singer Franck Leone, is the natural leader of the combo. He ensures the bass. He is accompanied by Mike Petrone on lead Guitar, Neil Grotti on Guitar and Giannantonio Lassi on drums. The single 'Colder than heaven' starts off with a bass / drums intro, to which is added a sharp riff. Then, the group already gives us a little solo; then comes the arrival of the song of the charismatic Franck Leone, accompanied once again by a bass / drums duo then, the riffs reappear for our greatest happiness; always embellished here and there with mini soaring lead guitar, not to mention the good old solo which goes well in three quarters of the title.Genghis Khan ticks all the boxes of heavy metal made in the 80's. The least we can say is that musically it holds up and the singer sticks well to the style. Here we can take up the mantra of James Hetfield during the concerts of the famous group from San Francisco: Do you want Heavy? Genghis Khan give you Heavy baby!We are, you will have understood it in a warlike register, with evocative titles like 'No surrender', 'Time to kill' or 'Warriors in the fields' which have catchy choruses, like the hits that Accept was able to produce in the 80s. Special mention to the songs 'He's the king' (my favorite track), 'Reiventing the fire' and 'Taken by force' which give a serious desire to headbanger, with their devastating riffs; and will make the most seasoned metalheads happy in concert, as soon as it is possible again. To conclude I would say that if you like Heavy Metal from the 80s with Accept or Anvil as a reference, '' Colder than Heaven '' by Genghis Khan is for you. You will have your dose of powerful riffs and melodic solos.

Album:

About halfway through ‘Possessed by the Wolf’, Gengis Khan suddenly decide to tell us that they are more modern than they were presenting as, dropping a change in riff that heralds the way for heavier, more technical, and more exciting content to come. Until then I had thought these Italians just another bunch of ‘80s revisionists mixing up power and heavy metal with strong production. In the end, I suppose this would appeal to those who like Primal Fear or other robust power/heavy metal acts, since it caters to heavy and singalong aspects without forgetting to introduce some flashy leads.Possessed by the Moon has plenty of tricks up its sleeve to last an undemanding 41 minutes. ‘Eternal Flame’ is a relatively straightforward ballad with some piano and just enough room for emotion around the pumped slow guitars, and that piano adds an intriguing songwriting feature to the title track. A little tinkling motif appears as a lick early on in the song, which is then picked up by the lead guitar when it arrives to solo, effectively making the first melody line already a refrain, not to mention adding to the intrigue of the same moonlit piano coming back for its own brief solo towards the end. The chorus there has a little King Diamond character in its construction, while ‘Sandman’ explodes with the speed of a power thrash number, and ‘The Wall of Death’ shoots at an existing epic USPM target with its war theme. Even commonly fixed parts of traditional power metal are open for expansion, so the technical solo in ‘Long Live the Rebels’ really starts to melt down preconceptions by the time we arrive there.I have a lot of time for smart, forward-thinking bands like Gengis Khan, especially when they have a foot in the traditions of their genre. Wrong-footing me once again before we part, I seem to have picked up a bonus track from somewhere, actually one titled after the band. As you might sort of expect, it’s a fucking banger and has probably the most epic chorus of the album to boot. You really have to get a version with ‘Gengis Khan’ on it, and you really have to hand it to the creators too - this is a delight of twisted trad.
