Nightqueen is a Genk-bases Heavy Metal band bent on domination of audience and spectators, for which it has shown to be nothing short of willing and ambitious.Musically, Nightqueen brings a mix of heavy metal that is not only accessible within most metal communities, but also for all that enjoy a good riff; the style, as a result, is founded on these strong guitar riff, rooted in the '80 style, mixed with more modern metal beats, symphonic tunes and catchy melodies from the vocal department.When Rex wrote the first song of the then nameless band, titled "Queen of the Night", the name was easily found: "Nightqueen".However, the band itself was not staffed properly yet, but after only a handful changes, the standing line-up is one to reckon with a capital R; Singer Keely Larreina brings a true-born Queen of the Night on stage like none has ever been before!.2010 saw the light for the first maxi-single,"Inauguration", that scored well with the critics. So well, it inspired the band to push the envelope and work on the full album, known as "For Queen & Metal", produced by Rex Zeco en Philip Weinhold (assisted by Daniel Kells) After less then a good year of writing, recording, adding and perfecting, the CD hit the stores (and the label) in January 2012! The seccond album will be expected at the begin of 2014. Prepare for the revolution.Bringing Nightqueen on stage means setting a stage on fire with smoke, flames and explosions, whereas energetic and experienced musicians will warrant a quality on stage, only surpassed by their own music!

Nightqueen from Gent, Belgium have produced a new album. It is called "rEVOLUTION" and brings you nine symphonic metal tunes. I haven't heard of the band before and after I pressed the play button I had to look into the label info sheet who is singing on that album. I had the immediate feeling that this is Jutta Weinhold from Zed Yago. But it's NOT her singing on this record; it's Keely Larreina. Still amazing how much her voice sounds like the one from Jutta in certain songs of the album.One of those is the opener "The hunter". After a little bit of a strange and unnecessary intro (you hears steps, a blade, a scream and a murder) you get compensated by a straight forward power metal track which could have been from the earlier mentioned Zed Yago.Also the second track goes a bit the same direction. Relaxed in the verse the song builds up to a powerful chorus. The choice of these two tracks as openers is a good one and makes you curious for more. With "Beyond the gates of heaven" it becomes really theatrical. It has a touch of an rock opera and sounds like a mix between Meat Loaf and Savatage. It's a cool song eventough it doesn't reach the level of the two mentioned bands. "Scream in the night" is a uptempo track with choral parts - a bit of Powerwolf - and the final song "Queen of the night" is a melodic power anthem, which belongs probably to the best 2-3 tunes on the album. With 10 minutes it is by far the longest track on the album and contains all the trademarks of the band. Symphonic and bombastic power metal that stands out from the other tracks on the album.The production is OK, but not exceeding. It is powerful but esp. the rhythm section sounds too undifferentiated. This is a pity because it reduces the positive impression of the album.Everybody who counts the early Zed Yago to their faves should give this album a chance.
