Bio:

It´s an impressive CV the band has achieved since their first release in 2001: Seven albums, a huge hit with "Double Nature", sold-out tours in Scandinavia, opening- and headline tours with Motörhead, Kizz, Rose Tattoo and Volbeat in Europe, four Swedish Grammy Nominations whereof two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Album for Latest Version Of The Truth 2008 and Mustasch 2010, and the following studio album "Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven" 2012 reached gold status in Sweden in just two weeks. After all this, the band reached a turning point. Full speed ahead focusing on the band or nothing at all. No half-hearted solutions, no compromises. All or nothing.- That’s the way I work as a person, Ralf explains over a cup of coffee a Tuesday morning in Stockholm. Drunk or sober, angry or happy, all or nothing. There are no in-betweens in my world. The band now celebrates it´s 14 anniversary with Ralf and Stam as the sole original members. In 2008 David Johannesson (ex. Sparzanza) came aboard, and after that Jejo Percović (ex. Candlemass, Infinite Mass) joined the band in 2012.The song-writing for Mustasch has been unusually painless, which Ralf credits the new members and the new band-order. Today everyone is free to write as they find best, follow their instincts and above all: focus on the best possible songs.- Earlier, I wrote a little bit every day. These days I have to gather the ideas and write in more concentrated sessions. They´re not as frequent, but on the other hand there’s more material to pick from. The lyrics are the same as always: anger and frustration - desolation.- I’ve got my roots in folk-music, Ralf explains. My first instrument was the accordion and I’ve been to quite a few accordion-music sessions. As my parents do a lot of folk-dancing, it was at these sessions I spent my summers. A few years ago, when the whole band shared an apartment in Gothenburg, we always played Jan Johansson and (swedish crooner) Evert Taube at our after-partys. It was the best way to come down after a night of partying. I don’t think I’ll be mixing in more folk-music with Mustasch, however. There are others who do that a lot better than us.All or nothing. Nothing else will do. Mustasch is the evidence of that.

Album:

It's been three years since the last album by Mustasch and that is like an eternity for a fan of the band. Usually they put up a new album every one or two years so this is the longest time between two albums by Mustasch (excluding their best of album The New Sound of The True Best). This means that my expectations was pretty high since they have been having more time than usual to write their songs.Anyway, Mustasch is, as usual, consistent and have a high low point. But they are also very versitile on the construction of the songs. For instance, we got the fast Speed Metal (fitting name right?), the classy Morning Star and the swinging single The Challenger. There is no song on this album that is weak with the exception of Northern Link that is just traffic reports from the inner city of Stockholm on swedish (with commercial of the band of course). I also got to give a lot of credit to the guys for coming up with the song titles. We got some extremely cool titles like Destroyed By Destruction and Your Father Must Be Proud of You.This album could have easily made 90-100% if it was not for one annoying thing. The lenght of the album. The album is only about 35 minutes long which is way to short for a perfect album. Although it gives me a lot more time to listen to the record it is not nearly enough to get 100% even though the song material is freaking awesome.Summary: If it was not for the lenght of the album I would already say that this album would be a contender for album of the year. The songs are very good and is a big step from the 2009 self titled release. It is no doubt that it will be on the top list when this year comes to an end but it would not have hurt with another song or two.Best Song: Tied between Speed Metal and The Challenger.

Album:

Mustasch are pleased to announce the release of their new album “Testosterone” on September 18th, via Gain Music Entertainment.“Testosterone” will be released digitally and physically, the album contains ten brand new songs and the limited gatefold vinyl also includes an exclusive bonus track.Mustasch’s new release is a record that speaks for itself; the title underlines the main musical and conceptual theme. The whole band has contributed the development on the album with the result of a solid hard rock sound that brilliantly mimes and renders the record’s theme.Big hard riffs, double bass drums and strong bass line are the elements of Mustasch’s soundscape, to which large choral arrangements are added, creating a distinct and peculiar hard rock feel. When asked about “Testosterone” vocalist Ralf Gyllenhammer says “On our new album which will be titled “Testosterone” I deal with my manhood, dignity and tenderness”.To support the release of “Testosterone” the band will embark on a European tour in the summer and during the fall.Formed in 1998 by lead vocalist Ralf Gyllenhammar, Mustasch quickly became one of the most successful and best selling Swedish rock bands, with several Grammy awards and six charted albums.

Album:

Mustasch are back with their new album, Killing it for Life. The album starts off with a gritty musical intro that opens the first track, Where Angels Fear to Tread, that sets the expectations for the album. The track is heavy on bass and packs a punch which is something I enjoy. After the opening track the album unleashes a track that has a bit of a musical Judas Priest vibe but done in classic Mustasch style. The lyrics entice listeners with their party theme. The album has a bit of a melancholy feel when you get to, Before A Grave. It’s dark, ambient and almost feels as though it was heavily influenced by Pink Floyd. That also carries through to the track, Freddie Mercury. As the remainder of the album unfolded, there was a mix of dark tracks with even darker lyrics. I couldn’t decide if this album was supposed to be Mustasch putting their middle finger up to the world or just letting out day to day disappointment. Whichever direction the writing came from, listeners will definitely feel the delivery.Overall the tempo on the full album was a but subdued to what I am used to hearing from this band. I did feel one of the stand out tracks for me personally was, What is Wrong. The riffage in this track, very tasty and felt a lot like Pretty Maids hard rocking sound. In summary: this is another good release from Mustasch that delivers an enjoyable musical experience for listeners, but I felt like I could not fully connect to this album. It has many different musical styles that left me felling like the album failed to come together as one. Would it stop me from grabbing this album? No, I’d still grab it. It’s full of all the things that these guys are known for, just a little more tame than expected.

Album:

Swedish hard rockers Mustasch return to the scene with the short but oh so sweet A Final Warning – Chapter One.Whether it is a commentary on the dire situation of the world at this time or not, it is still hard as nails rock in the Mustasch vein.Coming in at a paltry 21 minutes the band can be forgiven as this is only part one of a two-album project. Chapter One is set for release on April 16 with Chapter Two coming out at the end of 2021, on Tritonus Records.A Final Warning is the follow up to 2019’s awesome Killing It For Life (check out the review here) and is similar in its in-your-face-motherfucker delivery.Ralf Gyllenhammer’s vocals are in typically uncompromising fashion once again. His delivery is powerful, with added power and a bit more power on top.The opening title track comments on the way we’ve abused our planet and it is indeed our Final Warning. Can’t really argue that point. The track is quite reminiscent of Shinedown and their modern take on metal. Having said that Mustasch have been around a lot longer, so who reminds of who? A choppy riff introduces “Contagious” and is a toe-tapping winner with a cool chorus. It’s one of the most melodic of the six tracks on offer.“Albert Einstein” is up next with the catchy hook of “Do you wanna die, do you wanna die?” It’s a bit nu-metal but is full of intent and no little threat. It is also the first track that has a (brief) David Johannesson guitar solo. One of the two singles from the album – “Contagious” being the other – “You’re Killing Me” comes in the form of sharp, snappy vocals and crunching riffs. Not a lot of melody going on here.“Searching for Long Range Communication” breaks the mould somewhat in that it lacks the aggression of the other tracks. It also has a pleasant underlying riff running throughout the track and the bonus of another solo.“To Be Continued” gives the game away about Chapter Two but only in the title. The actual track is a 1m 30s repeated refrain from the end of the “A Final Warning” track. Neat and effective.Despite being so short A Final Warning – Chapter One manages to showcase all of Mustasch’s talents. I, for one, will look forward to Chapter Two.

Line Up:

Ralf Gyllenhammar – vocals and rhythm guitars
David Johannesson – lead guitar
Stam Johansson – bass guitar
Robban Bäck – drums

02. Contagious
