Bio:

OSTROGOTH is an old school heavy metal band, based in Ghent, Belgium. The band writes, records and plays their own music since the early ‘80s. Influenced by classic bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, MSG and Scorpions, Ostrogoth strives to write high quality and harmonic melodies, combined with pounding drums and groovy bass-lines.The roots of the band can be traced back to as early as 1976, when drummer Mario ‘Grizzly’ Pauwels and bass player Marnix ‘Bronco’ Van De Kauter started jamming together in a band called Stonehenge. In October 1980 the very first Ostrogoth line-up was formed when Grizzly and Bronco teamed up with guitarist Jean-Pierre De Keghel and singer Luc Minne. But already in April 1981 Jean-Pierre was replaced by Hans ’Sphinx’ Vandekerckhove. Later that year, on July 26th, 1981, Ostrogoth performed their first ever live concert, at the ‘Gentse Feesten’ in Belgium. One year later, in 1982, Rudy ‘WhiteShark’ Vercruysse joined as second guitarist, as the band wanted to write more harmonic pieces. That same year White Temple singer Marc ‘Red Star’ De Brauwer replaced Luc Minne and the line-up of the legendary ‘Full Moon’s Eyes’ EP was a fact.

Album:

Finally, the wait is over! ‘Last Tribe Standing’ was released on January 23rd, 2015, both on CD and vinyl, through Belgian cult label Empire Records. ‘Last Tribe Standing’ is the first official Ostrogoth release since 1987 and contains 4 new studio recordings and 4 live tracks recorded in the summer of 2014.At first the idea was to release a 4-track EP with new material, just like we did back in 1983 with our ‘Full Moon’s Eyes’ debut. Not a full album, just an EP with four killer songs. But a few days before we entered the studio to record the new tracks, we were listening to the tapes of some summer festival shows we had recorded earlier that year, solely for our own archives. The recordings were raw and 100% live, but the tapes sounded so good, it would’ve been a shame not to use them. So grew the idea to release two EP’s, back to back. With the four new songs on the A-side of the vinyl version and on the B-side the four songs from the ‘Full Moon’s Eyes’ EP, in a 2014 live version, the way the current line-up plays these songs today. Old and new gathered in one.”‘Last Tribe Standing’ was produced by guitarist Dario Frodo and mixing engineer Pete Mush and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Amaranthe, Evergrey, Pretty Maids). The artwork for ‘Last Tribe Standing’ was created by the talented Velio Josto from Italy. As a tribute to the early days the band decided to reuse the original logo that was only featured on the 1983 debut ‘Full Moon’s Eyes’.

Album:

Reissue featuring two albums from this heavy metal band out of Belgium. Ecstasy and Danger was recorded in 1984 and Full Moon's Eyes is from 1983. Includes one bonus track alternate take. After the success of »Full Moon’s Eyes«, it was time for Ostrogoth to start recording their debut full-length, to be entitled »Ecstasy And Danger«. Knowing that changing a winning team is never a good option, the band and Mausoleum decided to return to Kritz Studios in Kuurne. After all, Kuurne wasn’t too far away from the band’s home base Ghent, and the band really felt at home at Kritz. The recording and mixing sessions were spread over four days between 6th of October and 11 the October 1983.As with »Full Moon’s Eyes«, all songs had been selected beforehand and the band was prepared to the max. Once again, all five band members were constantly present throughout the entire recording process. According to bassist Marnix Van de Kaute, it was the most pleasant recording session of his career, for the atmosphere was excellent and relaxed, there were no discussions and a large amount of humour. Studio owner Fritz Valcke once again co-produced, together with the band. Fritz also took care of the mixing again, for he had a great pair of ears, and was quick to adjust all possible minor flaws. When it comes to executive producers Alfie Falkenbach, Stonne Holmgren and Leo Felsenstein: although they did show up in the studio, they didn’t intervene in the recording process. Obviously Alfie was the label boss and responsible for the cash flow, and Stonne and Leo were his partners. The only thing they weren’t too pleased with was the rather high bill for the band’s bar consumptions during the sessions.Mausoleum also came up with the artist that would provide the cover for »Ecstasy And Danger«, Eric Philippe. Alfie invited Eric and the band to the Mausoleum Records headquarters one day, in order to go through Eric’s portfolio of covers he already had. The band first laid eyes on the slide with the scorpion cover and they all fell in love with it immediately. They felt that the scorpion represented ecstasy, while the grenade stood for danger. It was then and there that the band settled on »Ecstasy And Danger« as the album’s title. As 1984 came to an end, Ostrogoth played one final gig at Zaal Jonkhove in Aartrijke. Once the festive season would be over, the band would start to record the follow-up to »Ecstasy And Danger«. But that’s another story.
