Bio:

Air Raid was formed in 2009 by Andreas Johansson & Johan Karlsson.Sweden, Sweden and no end. The newest Metal sensation from the land of the Tre Kronors comes for a change, not the flat land, but from the city of Gothenburg. We are talking about Air Raid. Founded in 2009, two years after the first CD-EP called "Danger Ahead" in 2013 followed by the debut album "Night Of The Axe". In April of the same year the legendary Air Raid "Keep It True" festival endowed off an equally legendary visit. There was an acclaimed performance in Japan (along with Girlschool) as well as a tour of Italy, Spain and Portugal. After a singer exchange took Arthur W Andersson (vocals), Andreas Johansson (guitar), Johan Karlsson (guitar), Robin Utbult (bass) and David Hermansson (drums) in June 2014, the work on its first high-roller Plate "Point Of Impact "in attack. The eight tracks on the album show influences of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to Riot and Chastain (seasoned with a small portion in the form of Teutonic Metal Accept and Grave Digger). With numbers like "Bound To Destroy," "The Fire Within" or "We Got the Force" "Point of Impact" is a clear improvement over the first LP. Guitarist Andreas thinks the same: "The new album has failed altogether a little more melodic and the song writing is definitely higher quality than on> Night Of The Axe '. But that was a natural development and due to the fact that Arthur has a more classic hard rock voice. I have written almost all the music and the vocal melodies themselves. The lyrics I shared with bassist Rob. "Air Raid are about to book an extensive tour of Europe. In addition to a video for a song from the new album "Point of Impact" be rotated. In the meantime, every headbanger should extensively lead the eight songs on the record to heart. It is worth it.

Album:

AIR RAID are a Heavy Metal band from Goteborg, Sweden, who are about to release one of the best Traditional Heavy Metal albums of the decade! “Point Of Impact” is an album filled with choppy and powerful guitar riffs, intensively strong vocals, heart pounding drum beats and groovy virtuosic bass lines. It screams traditional heavy metal from start to finish and I loved every moment! It’s clear that these guys take a lot of influence from the big names of the 80’s such as IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and SAXON, but that being said, AIR RAID have been able to write music that stands out for what it is and not sound like a ‘rip off’ to those 80’s bands, or sound like an amateur band trying to recapture that era.“Point of Impact” wastes no time and bursts straight into “Bound to Destroy” with a small drum solo followed by some bass playing, which reminiscent of “Overkill” by “MOTORHEAD”. This is a great song and a good choice to have as the opener because it really shows what these guys can do! I want go into any huge detail but some of the vocals in this first song alone could easily give singing titans like Rob Halford and Michael Kiske a run for their money!“Madness” takes a more mid tempo approach to begin with and opens up with some cool and flashy lead guitar work. Once again, AIR RAID delivers the goods with a very catchy IRON MAIDEN style chorus. “Victim of the Night” is next and is definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album; It opens up with some atmospheric clean guitars and soft melodic singing which build the tension well before exploding into the rest of the song full of harmonised riffs and more brilliant singing from Arthur Andersson. This song always seems to get stuck in my head for hours after I listen to this album!“Wildfire” is another fast paced song with consistent double bass drumming courtesy of the mighty Dave Destructor and you will definitely find yourself yelling that ‘wildfire’ at the top of your lungs when the infectious chorus comes around for the second time! Arthur still keeps surprising me on every track with his vocal range and abilities too; he has one hell of a great voice!“Flying Fortress” is the instrumental of the album, and has every musician high on their toes full of complex rhythms and structuring whilst Andy and Johnny solo to their hearts content one after the other. There are also little bass lead breaks too which is pretty awesome. This is a great display of the musicianship within this band; they’re very talented guys and tight as a band.“Vengeance” is next and has more of a classic power metal feel to it; a little reminiscent to early HELLOWEEN material. It’s another well-structured track full of energy and intensity with more amazing vocal melodies, I seriously can’t stress enough how brilliant Arthur’s voice is!“The Fire Within” is another mid tempo one and has some great harmonised riffs and lead lines. It’s one of the more chilled out songs on the album, which isn’t a bad thing at all; as much as I love the relentless speed that’s showcased on most of this album and in metal in general, it’s nice to kick back to a mid-tempo track like this and just groove along to it. The diversity of rhythms, speeds and structuring is also what makes this album great!“We Got the Force” is the last and longest song of the album and brings things to a close very well; it’s an anthem of a heavy metal track which once again lets you know that AIR RAID have the force and willpower to take the earth by storm as future titans to our beloved genre. After just a few listens, “Point of Impact” is already one of my favourite albums this year, most definitely in the top 10! I highly recommend that you buy this album, I promise you will not regret it!

Album:

It's no secret Sweden's a veritable hotbed for killer "traditional" heavy metal in the vein of Ambush, Black Trip, Enforcer, In Solitude, Night, RAM, Portrait, Steelwing and Wolf, to name a select few. Another commendable band worthy of inclusion is Gothenburg's Air Raid, which just released what might be its most savory album, Across The Line, following a couple other doozies, 2012's Night Of The Axe and 2014's Point Of Impact. "Comme il faut", these were auspiciously preceded by a strong prototype EP in the precisely half-hour long seven tracker Danger Ahead, released under the reputable Stormspell Records - purveyor of stellar fare such as Ancient Empire, Hellhound and Shadowkiller - and while it may sound a bit plain and generic at first, on closer inspection proves its worth by way of upper-ranged yet virile vocals, solid, sustainable guitar/ bass riffs and well-rooted/ rounded drumming not to mention ravishing and at times downright zestful leads on behalf of Andreas Johansson and Johan Karlsson (whose spot has recently been filled by Magnus Mild), which duly honor similarly modeled twin-guitar incursions such as fellow countrymen listed above.Unsurprisingly, this EP starts off with an alarming air raid siren - as with Black Sabbath's "War Pigs", or to a lesser know extent, H-Bomb's "Attaque" - before a trilling guitar riff leads the listener towards victory, further propelled by Michael Rinakakis' semi-epic vocals (he's now been replaced by Fredrik Werner) and Robin Utbult/ David Hermansson on bass and drums. While the drums resound prominently, the bass sounds a bit lost in the mix, except for the last three tracks, two of which are gleaned from the 2011 demo, "Traitor's Gate" (also a deadly NWOBHM band) and "Fight Street", which offer a fine taste of what's to come production-wise on later albums, notably the last one (to wit, I've only heard "Northern Lights" but it's definitely a step up thanks to its commanding bass line and sparkling, hallucinatory solos). Anyhow, this EP surely takes off with "Midnight Burner" and its mid-paced drum roll giving way to some finely woven, expressive leads before a crisp return to form and further eloquent verses on behalf of a by-now fully engaged front man.Possibly my go-to track for this EP is "Free At Last", as it showcases both the guitarists' ambitious (and relentless) fretwork as well as a much stronger bass line, at times sticking out by way of its glorious "poing!", which does a wicked job of giving this song a particularly compelling and original flair. Considering the band has striven hard to define itself and find its niche amongst its peers, Danger Ahead represents ground zero in terms of development. Alternatively, expect to be reeled in fast by its most recent offering, the utterly fantastic Across The Line, which duly establishes Air Raid as a winning contender.

Line Up:

Michael Rinakakis - Vocals

03. The Metal Cult 04:31

05. Free at Last 03:41
06. Traitors' Gate (2011 Demo) 05:03 (Bonus Track)

Album:

Classic, traditional '80s metal is alive & kickin' on the new album from Gothenburg-based enthusiasts of AIR RAID. Titled "Across The Line", the Cd will be released at the end of the month, but just appeared in Japan including an exclusive bonus track.Air Raid started in 2009, based on an initiative of bandleader Andreas Johansson. Night Of The Axe was the debut released in 2012, that acted as a springboard for signing a contract with High Roller Records.Air Raid became part of a portfolio that also includes more Swedish bands, all revitalizing traditional metal by adding the unlimited enthusiasm of youth to this specific, classic style.Three years after their second effort broke through the surface, it’s “Across The Line” which acts as the third strike. As we have seen many times before, it’s this the third album that is a very decisive one with a bigger impact on a band’s future. In case of Air Raid, we can conclude that all signs direct into a more than positive future.“Across The Line” showcases the quintet wild and full in '80s denim & leather, as for what they are known for, but the new CD is also more mature, with songs that show an evolvement of band and sound.Achieving such a solid and intense metal record wasn’t a very easy thing since the band had to deal with some line-up changes. With Magnus Mild (guitar) and new vocalist Fredrik Werner (current OSUKARU singer) two new band members had to be integrated, an undertaking that obviously went very well.It almost looks like these guys added a fresh new breeze which grows to a metal / hard n' heavy storm throughout the entire record. The album doesn’t include any downer or failure. If you call classic Saxon (the track 'Hell And Back)', early Pretty Maids ('Entering The Zone Zero'), 220 Volt ('Cold As Ice') and Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force / Jeff Scott Soto era ('Northern Light') to your favorites, you should check out this album now.Additionally there's some '80s Michael Schenker Group in 'Black Dawn', and a bit of Judas Priest in 'Hold The Flame'.The Japanese bonus track is a re-working of one track titled 'A Blade In The Dark' from the band's full length debut, now re-done with the new line up. It's pretty Iron Maiden mixed with Accept, and it's darn good. There's a lot to love in Air Raid's "Across The Line": killer songs, strong performances and tons of melody. You have razor riffs (very clean) and soaring vocals by Werner (much more solid than in Osukaru's records), and a very classic production with an eye in the '80s but updated, punchy and vibrant.Old-school traditional '80s metal with power and glory.

Line Up:

Fredrik Werner (Osukaru) - Vocals
Andreas Johansson - Guitars
Robin Utbult - Bass
David Hermansson - Drums
Magnus Mild - Guitars

01. Hold The Flame

Album:

Belonging to the same generation as Ambush, Screamer, Enforcer and Robert Pehrsson’s Humbucker, Air Raid is currently hailed as one of the most accomplished protagonists of the new wave of traditional Swedish heavy metal. One of the Gothenburg metal representatives are Air Raid. The band started 2009 and follow their passion for traditional metal. The debut was unleashed in 2012 and is entitled ‘Night of the Axe’, followed by two additional longplayers. Six years after having released ‘Cross the Line’, Air Raid are back with a new record called ‘Fatal Encounter’. Nine songs and a running time of 37 minutes represent well-crafted heavy metal. Dokken, Hammerfall and Running Wild are bands that certainly inspired Air Raid while working on their newest offer.‘Thunderblood’ is the stunning opener, and it is a powerful and Dokken-reminding riff, that kicks off the album. The track provides a great start into the album. The blistering ‘Lionheart’ is next, followed by the heavy pounding ‘In Solitude’.Speed increases with the thundering ‘See the Light’ while the interlude ‘Sinfonia’ introduces ‘Edge of a Dream’. The latter song is another metal anthem which blends heaviness and catchiness. Slower paced and hard-hitting, that is ‘Let the Kingdom Come’ before the band shifts gears again. ‘One By One’ is a blasting metal track and the glorious ride through the beauty of metal ends with ‘Pegasus Fantasy’. The song carries a bit of a Running Wild-vibe and is the perfect closing chapter for an album like ‘Fatal Encounter’.Air Raid offer with their newest blast from the north an album that honors the greatness of heavy metal in its most traditional way. This album is just fun to listen to and invites for headbanging, either during live shows or in your living room.
