Saboter - Saboter (EP) (2015)
Year : 2015
Style : Heavy Metal
Country : Greece
Audio : 320 kbps + all scans + Video
Size : 107 mb
Bio:
Saboter is a Greek heavy metal band founded in 2014 when the members of Greek thrash band Overcast decided to try their hands at traditional heavy metal. Overcast have only released a demo and one album, 2003’s superb yet little-known Under The Face Of Chaos, so it didn’t take long for them to get sidetracked, but hopefully the Overcast project will continue alongside Saboter, who have landed their debut self-titled EP.
Album:
Vocalist Antonis Vailas has an impressive vocal range, evoking at various points famous heavy metal singers like Rob Halford, Sanctuary’s Warrel Dane, and Rage’s Peter “Peavy” Wagner, hitting the high notes with a slight hoarseness that recalls the distinctive voice of Anacrusis, Kenn Nardi. Some of this is no coincidence, as the influences listed in the EP’s press release include both Judas Priest and Sanctuary, along with Metallica, which also soon becomes evident. The songs are uniformly quite good, starting with “Eye Of Terror”, a straightforward rocker with plenty of catchiness in the riffs and chorus. The lyrics have a random, throw-lots-of-aggressive-words-together feel about them, for example the chorus, “Eye of terror, riding the sky, defenders open, fire at blind” and lines like, “Huge death suffocation and fear”. Second track “Land Of Anger” is slower, but just as catchy, with a more impressive chorus and riffs that bear a striking resemblance to Metallica’s “Don’t Tread On Me”. The lyrics are even more mystifying, such as, “Pins spilling white poison” and, “The winter crystalize your blood”. Drawing attention to the words is perhaps a tad unfair in light of the pressure on bands to write in a language that may not be their own, but a quick check with someone whose first language is English may have been a worthwhile exercise.Instrumental tracks can often be no more than pointless interludes, but “Inner Peace” is unusual in that it may be Saboter’s finest moment, with an infectious rhythm section and some excellent lead guitar. Conversely, “Nasty Warriors” is the weak point, an unremarkable tune with the highly clichéd chorus line, “heavy metal maniacs are coming back for you”.Closing track “Redemption” is an improvement; a slightly slower number with yet another catchy chorus that includes Vailas’ compelling instruction to “listen to my voice”.
