Bio:

Formed in the military town of Sandhurst, perfected in the London clubs and spreading British heavy metal wide across the UK and Europe, Primitai are primed to unleash their third album on the world! Featuring, Guy Miller (vocals), Tom Draper and Srdjan Bilic (guitars), Jamie LordCastle (bass) and drummer Chris Chilcott, Primitai blend together new and old style metal, boasting superb solos backed with crunching riffs and powerful rhythms without forgetting the need for memorable hooks and powerhouse vocals!Following the release of their critically acclaimed album, ‘The Line of Fire’ in late 2010, Primitai spent the next two years touring across the whole of the UK and Ireland, playing with the likes of Saxon, Grand Magus, Edguy, Firewind, Warbringer, Evile, Sonic Syndicate, White Wizzard, IAMI and Jettblack, as well as acclaimed festival appearances at Hard Rock Hell, Bloodstock and High Voltage. The band have spent the past 12 months trading the sweaty live shows for the chilly rehearsal space, throwing ideas into the creative melting pot and creating the songs that will form the upcoming album. It’s been a year spent writing and recording, re-writing and re-recording and finally fine tuning their new material and now Primitai are almost ready to unveil their latest creation, Rise Again. The new album is a powerful statement of intent! Featuring their trademark twin-guitar solos, Guy’s towering yet melodic vocals and the fiercest rhythmic foundation around, Primitai 2013 is a band out to prove once and for all that British metal is alive and well!

Album:

It’s always a good sign for an album when it finishes and you audibly go ‘Awwwww’ like a child being denied his murderous video games. This is why it’s baffling that more people don’t seek out up and coming metal – you get to witness the intangible spark you once noticed become very much tangible. Flash back to the first Primitai record Through The Gates Of Hell, and you can hear the underlying talent on show. The knack for vocal melodies and the searing solos of lead axeman Srdjan Bilic are undeniable, but the talent on show was extremely raw and a little unfocused. But little by little, with each passing album, Primitai have tightened their skill-set, putting words to their intangibles until they started making the music you can tell they’ve always been dying to make.Night Brings Insanity not only fits as the logical next step for Primitai, it also works as an unabashed celebration of all aspects of heavy metal. There are nods to multiple sub-genres of metal, from the power metal fretting of ‘Savage Skies’ to the Pantera-style grooves in the titular track. Thanks in large part to the distinct gruff style of vocalist Guy Miller however, Primitai are able to showcase their influences whilst still sounding distinctly like Primitai. Other album highlights include the wonderfully widdly twin guitar freneticism of ‘Power Surge’, and ‘Night Hunter’ – a track so firmly planted in 80’s hair glory that it practically sounds like neon.I was all set to write off final track ‘Conclusion Forgone’, its almost ballad level tempo really working against the rest of the album. That is until Bilic launches into a stunning solo reminiscent of Rhodes-era Ozzy Osbourne, so authentically traditional in feel that all my cotton clothing started turning into denim whilst I was still wearing it. It isn’t quite enough to save the song for my tastes, largely due to its placement in the running order; but it still serves as a strong showing of Primitai’s versatility.Heavy enough and credible enough for the NWOBHM crowd, yet replete with ample melody and swagger to appease the Guns N Roses crowd. This is beer swilling, hair spinning, Waynes World loving heavy metal played masterfully by a band that sound effervescent and absolutely vital. Night Brings Insanity might sound big and dumb to some, but those of us who love it will be having way too much fun to care.
