Bio:

Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, east London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The band's discography has grown to thirty-seven albums, including fifteen studio albums, eleven live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations.Pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. After several line-up changes, the band went on to release a series of US and UK platinum and gold albums, including 1982's The Number of the Beast, 1983's Piece of Mind, 1984's Powerslave, 1985's live release Live After Death, 1986's Somewhere in Time and 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Since the return of lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999, the band have undergone a resurgence in popularity, with their latest studio offering, The Final Frontier, peaking at No.1 in 28 different countries and receiving widespread critical acclaim.Despite little radio or television support,Iron Maiden are considered one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history, with The New York Times reporting in 2010 that they have sold over 85 million records worldwide. The band won the Ivor Novello Award for international achievement in 2002. As of October 2013, the band have played over 2000 live shows throughout their career. For the past 35 years, the band have been supported by their famous mascot, "Eddie", who has appeared on almost all of their album and single covers, as well as in their live shows.

Album:

Promotional Copy - For Japanese Fans Only.. In 1999, the entire "Maiden Japan" concert was remastered and released as a digipak to members of the Iron Maiden fanclub. In the Venezuelan press the cover art was a different picture of the band's mascot, Eddie, holding the decapitated head of singer Paul Di'Anno. This version is one of the rarest Iron Maiden items in the world..Paul Di'anno Maiden was especially good an fun. Like a typhoon quality presentation, Maiden was the best band in the world in the 1980's beginning. After Paul got fired due to a heavy drug using, Maiden lost the best person in their time. Typically when new blood in the form of quality songs flourishes, legends are born. The set is a good mix of both "Iron Maiden" and "Killers", the first two Iron Maiden albums. First four songs goes right on to deliver shockingly fast and wicked punk rock like anthems. The midway is a roller coaster of both personal agendas and guitar shredding. In the end, the band performs the most heavy classics such as the strange "Strange World" and the philosophical "Twilight Zone", which perfectly sums the night up.This is classic rock, mixed somewhere between pure rock, heavy metal and punk rock. Dianno blasters through his the ever clever, sarcastic and personal voice. Voice that caused the smog in the Britannia, the melting of Greenland and the Osaka sun overwhelming heat. There is just something in the air, magic. The guitarist's shred way better than for example Osbournes fourth guitarist Zakk Wylde, just brilliant. The originality and the place, whoa, Japan!Something about the songs: "Another Life" must've been the best song from Iron Maiden ever, where "Remember Tomorrow" is the causalitet of the insanity of sleeping to keep you alive. "Purgatory" just simply destroys every modern Maiden song currently. "Killers" puts this concert a nice caution of the dynamicity of the band in these gigs. And also, puts an end to this review, for now.

Album:

From Fear to Eternity: The Best of 1990-2010 is a compilation album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, containing a selection of songs originally released on the eight studio albums from No Prayer for the Dying to The Final Frontier. The title is lifted from the 1992 single, "From Here to Eternity", although it is not featured in this release. The album was announced on 15 March 2011, to be released by EMI on 23 May, although this was later changed to 6 June.Unlike their previous compilation (Somewhere Back in Time), the release covered two CDs to encompass longer tracks, such as "Paschendale", although the price remained that of a single disc record. As with Somewhere Back in Time, each track is sung by Bruce Dickinson rather than Blaze Bayley (who sang on The X Factor and Virtual XI), the band again opting to use later live versions of songs which originally featured other lead vocalists. The album cover was designed by Melvyn Grant, and serves to reference each relevant studio release. Three representations of Eddie appear, one dressed in Grim Reaper attire (as in Dance of Death), one atop the tank from A Matter of Life and Death – which is imprinted with the "Cross-Keys" symbol from The Final Frontier – and a large burning wicker man (the first single from Brave New World). The artwork also contains the tree from Fear of the Dark, the tombstone from No Prayer for the Dying, a large "X" on the tree trunk (representing The X Factor) and the twisted figures and burnt building structure from the Virtual XI cover.Classic Rock described the album as representing "Gold from every era", claiming that, although "weighted towards the... last five studio albums", the "earlier singles... fight their corner remarkably well." The review also argues that some of the release's later songs "match anything from Maiden's 80s heyday."In their July 2011 issue, Metal Hammer praised the compilation for doing "an excellent job of gathering the heartiest wheat over the last two decades", although deeming Blaze Bayley's absence from the album a "glitch" albeit "for the best."Tracks 1-6, 1-10, 1-12 and 2-5 are live versions. "Sign Of The Cross", "Fear Of The Dark" and "The Clansman" were recorded at Rock in Rio in Brazil on 19 January 2001. "Man On The Edge" was recorded at Fila Forum, Milan on 23 September 1999 during the Ed Hunter Tour.

Album:

"Out of the Silent Planet" is a single from the Iron Maiden album Brave New World, released in 2000.The single features two live tracks from the 1999 Ed Hunter tour, which featured the band reunited with guitarist Adrian Smith and vocalist Bruce Dickinson, as well as the promotional video for "Out of the Silent Planet." Cover art was by Mark Wilkinson. According to interviews with band members, the song was primarily influenced by the science fiction movie Forbidden Planet. (In addition, the name "Out Of The Silent Planet" is a reference to the 1938 C.S. Lewis science fiction novel by the same title.) It's a peculiarity in that despite being one of only 2 singles from the album, this was not played on the majority of the accompanying world tour--only in a few encores in South America. The guitar solo in the song is played by Janick Gers. The music video is a recording of the band's European leg of their Brave New World Tour. The regular single[1] and the limited edition numbered single were both the same, which was unusual for Iron Maiden releases. The 12" Picture Disc LP had the limited edition cover with Eddie at the podium on side A and the reporters on side B.All three versions had the same tracks, also unusual for multiple Iron Maiden singles of the same title. Out of the silent planet is a song from Brave New World that truly sounds like something fresh and new from the boys, a nice contrast to their older works. The b-sides are FANTASTIC live versions from the Ed Huntour. Infact, by collecting all the singles from BNW, you get a nice little collection of 6 tracks from that tour. The band is at the top of their game again, and anybody can realise that by comparing the Wasted Years version on this single with the one on the 1993 Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live) single! The cover on the digipack version is the WORST Eddie in history, plus a guy on it is wearing a Calvin Klein t-shirt, how metal is that?!

Album:

"The Wicker Man" is a song by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 8 May 2000 as the first single and opening track from their twelfth studio album, Brave New World (2000). It is also the first single by the band since the returns of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999. It was co-written by Smith, Dickinson and Steve Harris. It was co-produced by Kevin Shirley and Harris. The title is inspired by the British cult film of the same name. The song should not be confused with "Wicker Man" from Dickinson's solo career, the lyrics of which are more closely themed around the film. The latter song can be found on the 2 disc edition of The Best of Bruce Dickinson.According to Dickinson, 'The Wicker Man' initially started off as a riff that Adrian Smith was "bouncing around with". Dickinson thought that the riff sounded good and he began to add a catchy melody to the song. Then Steve Harris began to play along to the riff. Dickinson stated that the song was written without even trying to get a single-length track. It was also the first song that the band rehearsed together since the return of Dickinson and Smith.Dickinson said the process of writing the lyrics attempted to get "the same vibe I get when I stand onstage in front of all these people and they start singing and chanting with you".The radio version of the song differs from the album track, with the chorus' first and third line "Your time will come" followed by the line, "Thy will be done", and the last line is followed by "Don't turn, don't run." This is the case for every chorus except for the third chorus in which the third line is followed by "I'll be the gun" and the fourth line is followed by "Burn on my son." This version is considered extremely rare. The single's cover art was by Mark Wilkinson, after a piece by the famed artist Derek Riggs was rejected. This was the last piece Riggs would create for Iron Maiden, until Flight 666, reasoning that they were too hard to work with. This art work was used for the picture vinyl disc and various minor pressings. In 2001, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category "Best Metal Performance" but lost to "Elite" by Deftones. This song was also included as a playable song in game Rock Band Blitz. The Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League have used a portion of The Wicker Man as their goal celebration song starting in the 2011-12 season, up through the 2017-18 season.

Album:

To this date, Best of the Beast is Iron Maiden's very best compilation. The essential double-disc version features both the band's most famous hits and singles such as ''Run to the Hills'', ''The Trooper'' and ''Wasted Years'' and the group's emotional and intellectual epics like ''Phantom of the Opera'', ''Rime of the Ancient Mariner'' and ''Sign of the Cross''. This compilation offers a whopping two and a half hours of outstanding heavy metal entertainment without any fillers. In addition to this, Best of the Beast offers three spectacular gimmicks. First of all, this release includes a brand new song entitled ''Virus'' which might easily be the best track the quintet recorded during Blaze Bayley's short stint with the band. The track opens with an epic, gloomy and slow overture that exemplifies an approach that has since become a trademark for contemporary Iron Maiden songs. The song then evolves into a melancholic, melodic and melodramatic track with decent keyboard sounds, majestic choirs and outstanding guitar harmonies. This rare collaborative songwriting effort involving all band members except the drummer also convinces with gripping lyrics that could be interpreted in two ways. The more literal meaning is a visionary criticism of business corruption in a world that has become dependent upon information technology. The indirect meaning of the song could be related to unjustified criticism of pitiless journalists and closed-minded fans who didn't give Iron Maiden's new line-up and especially singer Blaze Bayley a chance. This stunning track is worth purchasing this compilation alone but if you find that too expensive, you could also go for one of the numerous excellent single versions of the song on vinyl, disc and cassette featuring new cover songs, rare demo tracks from The Soundhouse Tapes or the forgotten Metal for Muthas recordings. The second highlight of this album is the re-release of two rare songs from the demo The Soundhouse Tapes of the late seventies. ''Iron Maiden'' and ''Strange World'' capture the energizing yet versatile pioneer spirit of the band. So far, these songs had been extremely difficult to find and very expensive to purchase and including them on a disc for the first time ever is great fan service and makes this summary of Iron Maiden's career truly complete. The third highlight is a brand new live version of the band's underrated epic ''Afraid to Shoot Strangers'' featuring Blaze Bayley on vocals. The song captures the band's cohesion, energy and talent on stage and the gloomy lyrics suit the track so well that one might even consider it an improvement over the great studio version. If you had your doubts about Blaze Bayley's vocal skills in concert, this track will impress you for sure since this might as well be the best live song ever recorded in Blaze Bayley's extensive career. In addition to these three gimmicks, the songs from the band's early years have been remastered for this release. They sound organic and up-to-date without losing the energy and spirit of the original recordings. Along with the new track and the songs from the last studio album, these remastered versions make for a surprisingly coherent flow for this kind of release. The limited edition of this compilation also includes a sixty-page hardback book with numerous pictures recapturing the first twenty years in Iron Maiden's impressive career but even the regular booklet is an entertaining summary of the group's greatest moments. Finally, this release features a beautiful cover artwork honoring some of the band's most iconic artworks to date. It's both a great new piece of art an a respectful rendition of what the group had accomplished until that point.Obviously, it's always recommended to purchase regular studio records instead of compilation efforts and this is particularly true for Iron Maiden since each of the band's records up to that point had a very distinct approach, atmosphere and flow. However, if you had only one Iron Maiden record to purchase or not enough money to grab the group's studio albums, Best of the Beast would be an excellent choice for faithful collectors, occasional listeners and new fans alike. If compared to later compilations involving Iron Maiden, Best of the Beast has a brand new track, covers every single studio album and includes rare gimmicks from the early years. Ignore the critics who obviously haven't understood the purpose of this release or who criticize any type of compilation record and get your hands on one of the best compilations ever released in the music industry.

Album:

We are thrilled to announce the release of Iron Maiden's 17th studio album, "Senjutsu", through Parlophone Records (BMG in the USA). It was recorded in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Steve Harris. For "Senjutsu" - loosely translated as 'tactics & strategy' - the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Steve Harris. And with a running time of a little under 82 minutes, "Senjutsu", like the previous record "The Book Of Souls", will be a double CD album/triple vinyl album.Steve says: "We chose to record at Guillaume Tell Studio in France again as the place has such a relaxed vibe. The set-up there is perfect for our needs; the building used to be a cinema and has a really high ceiling so there's a great acoustic sound. We recorded this album in the same way we did 'The Book Of Souls' in that we'd write a song, rehearse it and then put it down together straight away while it was all fresh in our minds. There are some very complex songs on this album which took a lot of hard work to get them exactly as we wanted them to sound, so the process was at times very challenging, but Kevin is great at capturing the essence of the band and I think it was worth the effort! I'm very proud of the result and can't wait for fans to hear it." Bruce Dickinson continues: "We're all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour, so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more - so much for the best laid plans - or should that be 'strategies'? The songs are very varied and some of them are quite long. There's also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised - in a good way, I hope!"

Album:

Eddie's Archive is a box set by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 16 November 2002.The box, an embossed metal casket featuring the face of mascot Eddie, contains three double CDs, the Iron Maiden family tree and a shot glass. The family tree is an updated version of the family tree that originally came with A Real Dead One in 1993.Eddie's Archive was originally released as a limited edition, with the family tree numbered. However, due to demand, it was later re-released with a different colour inlay (changed from blue to red) and with the family tree unnumbered, in order to preserve the value of the original issue.Speaking about the box set, bassist and band founder Steve Harris commented, "Eddie's Archive was released for the real collector. We always try hard to keep the quality there for people. We would make a hell of a lot more money if we didn't package a release looking like that, but we do it because we're proud of the Iron Maiden legacy and want to treat the fans with respect."

CD1+CD2: BBC Archives is a live album by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 4 November 2002 as part of the Eddie's Archive box set. It is a collection of songs from three live shows and one live radio broadcast, recorded by the BBC between 1979 and 1988.

CD3+CD4: Beast over Hammersmith is a live album by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 4 November 2002. Recorded 20 years previously, during The Beast on the Road tour at the Hammersmith Odeon, the footage was specially co-produced and mixed by Steve Harris and Doug Hall to be a part of the Eddie's Archive box set.Even though this album contains material from The Number of the Beast, it was actually recorded two days prior to its release, although "Run to the Hills" had already been released as a single. The album became officially available for the very first time on vinyl as part of the Number of the Beast 40th anniversary special edition on 18 November 2022.An abridged video version of the concert is included on the first disc of the 2004 DVD, The History of Iron Maiden – Part 1: The Early Days. Intended to be released on VHS around the time of its recording, the band withheld the footage as they were unhappy with its visual quality due to lighting difficulties during the show.

CD5+CD6: Best of the 'B' Sides is a compilation of B-sides by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 4 November 2002 as part of the Eddie's Archive box set. Each track was remastered and the set came with a running commentary from Rod Smallwood. It covers all of their singles from their first (1980's "Running Free") to 2000's "Out of the Silent Planet", although several of the band's original B-sides were excluded from the collection: "Total Eclipse" (from "Run to the Hills", 1982, although this has been added to the album The Number of the Beast from 1998 onwards), "Mission From 'Arry" (from "2 Minutes to Midnight", 1984); "Bayswater Ain't a Bad Place to Be" (from "Be Quick or Be Dead", 1992); and "I Live My Way" (from "Man on the Edge", 1995). Also missing are the band's cover of Thin Lizzy's "Massacre" (from "Can I Play with Madness", 1988) and a number of live B-sides.The album is described on the band's website as "a collection that not only reveals much about the band as individuals and the inherent character of the band, but also provides a real insight into who and where their influences came from."
