Bio:

Everything started in Munich, back in 1977. Five school boys decided to become rock stars, founded a band and called themselves RAILWAY. Concerning the name there was a certain evidence because their rehearsal room was located in the cellar of a railway station. In the beginning, they covered the music of their idols, but later, their desire to create songs of their owns became stronger. In 1979, the newspaper "Abendzeitung" started a competition for bands to find out Munich's newcomer N° 1. More than 250 bands tried to conquer, until finally six of them were allowed to perform in front of a jury at the "Theatron" and at "Circus Krone". At the end, RAILWAY came second with only 13 votes missing (from 2000 voters) for the victory. In 1980, RAILWAY supported "THE SPECIALS" and thus made their debut which became a huge success. In the following years, they became more and more popular with a fast growing fan base.In 1981, the five musicians recorded their first EP "Just Imagination" which they produced and financed by themselves; this was important in order to get bigger and better opportunities to perform their music. In those days, they played their songs everywhere they were allowed to.Finally, in 1983, the Dutch record company "Roadrunner" offered them a record contract for five albums. This was exactly what they wanted, and so they signed the contract. In 1984, their self-titled album "RAILWAY" was released which included power rock songs such as "Heavy Metal Fever", "Nightrider" and "Dirty Boys". More than 10,000 copies were sold, and eventually, they went on a tour through Germany along with the British band "TOKIO BLADE".In 1985, their second album called "RAILWAY II" was released, which was even more successful than their debut - more than 15,000 records were sold. It included "Lick It, Stick It" which they still use as their opener at their live concerts, and their most popular song "I'm A Loser" which was played at every rock disco and at many parties. "I'm A Loser" was also included in a sampler called "Munich City Nights" which became famous and notorious because of many bootlegs being made. All this helped RAILWAY finally to become more popular all over Germany. In the following years, they went on tour with many famous bands such as "Motörhead", "Manowar", "Russ Ballard", "The Sweet", "Canned Heat", "BONFIRE"; "Doro" etc.For sure, their performance along with "TWISTED SISTER" at Circus Krone in Munich in 1985 was another highlight of their career. RAILWAY literally blew the Americans from their stage and became the talk of the town.Another milestone was their appearances at Kist Festival in Budapest, Hungary, in 1985 and 1986 where they performed in front of app. 10,000 enthusiastic fans - a dream became true.Their album "RAILWAY II" was published in Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada and even in the Soviet Union and in the former Eastern Block. In 1987, their third album "CLIMAX" was released. They went on tour again, but they started asking themselves what happened to their money. They kept on playing live and producing records, but still they had not received a single penny from their record company. They checked their contracts carefully and they decided to quit their company. In 1988, their guitar player Herman Janowitz died of cancer. Because of this sad fact, the band was re-formed.In 1989, RAILWAY released a new EP on their owns called "Tomorrow". This bouncing rock song brought them even more fans.Their forth album "To Be Continued" was released in 1991 in Europe and Japan. The tracks "Love Just For Money" and "Dreams From The Northern Light" became real classics.RAILWAY were invited to play at the Wacken Festival in Northern Germany which was a great honour, for this one is the biggest open air festivals in Europe. Their appearance was a huge success. In 1993 they released their fifth album "Welcome Tonite" - once again in Japan as well. Still, they could never carry out their plans to go on tour in Japan.Meanwhile, the guys did all activities which are usually done by a management or by a record company - such as producing, marketing, publishing, planning their tours etc.. From then on they did not want to be connected to any company - they wanted to keep full control about all business activities on theirs owns.In 1995, their sixth and so far last album "Persecution Mania" was released. After that, they decided to have a break - in those days, no-one could know that this break would turn out to be that extended.Through the years, RAILWAY kept on receiving fan mail from all over the world trying to persuade them to continue their music - so, in 2004, the Haslinger brothers (drums and guitar) decided to get their fellows together again - which turned out to be more difficult than they thought. After long talks about the sense (or non-sense) of a reunion, they re-activated the musical activities of RAILWAY in their original line-up after almost 20 years. RAILWAY is "finally back" in 2006.

Album:

Railway's first full-length self-titled album is a good heavy metal production. It shows hints of a speed metal, but it's combined with other sounds. I'll describe it as a fusion of traditional, speed, hair, and thrash metal, all in one. The album begins with Heavy Metal Fever, very "eighties" sounding, but in a good way. The track has fast riffs and a decent, but simple, chorus. Out to Kill reinforces Railways speed metal trait. The vocals are high like many bands of the time, and definitely above average. I wouldn’t go as far as calling the singing stellar though. The chorus’s are often "chanted" by multiple guys delivering a rough sound. The best track has to be Screaming After Midnight, fast like always, good riffs, and an impressive chorus. The song is melodic material, almost makes you want to sing along(as lame as it might sound). There isn't a bad song in the mix. Railway put effort into every song, obviously wanting to step into the metal scene with this release. The riffs remain fast and raw, every tune energetic. Another track, not as great as Screaming After Midnight, Nightrider, is also notable for its powerful chorus and riffs. Hell Soldiers concludes the self-titled album with a vicious riff and chorus. If you are a fan of speed and 80s metal you'll enjoy this release. Railway is one of the better German bands from the early 80s. The album certainly sound better than Accept, Warlock, Mad Max and other German bands from the time. Anyway, if you're fortunate enough to find a copy, don’t pass up the golden opportunity, buy it.

Album:

One of the quintessential and quite unknown Traditional Heavy Metal Albums.Railway was one of those multiple bands that tryied to emulate Accept in the 80s, but in this case, we got some special material on our hands.Railway started with a demo in 1981, appeared in a compilation and released an album before this one, quite enough way to develop themselves.1985 comes, and they release one of the most solid and underrated albums of Trady Heavy Metal of the 80s.Here you listen an commercial kind of Heavy Metal, the one you could use in 80s cartoons intros. We start with the locomotive driven, lick it stick it, very powerful and catchy, with accesible choruses and verses.Go Down it's a fast paced number, with crazy solos and riffs, not as memorable as the next track. The first Heavyweight of the release D.O.A, what a track, highway heavy metal at it's finest, with the necessary mix of radio friendly elements in there, great chorus and catchy riff.Dreamin and lady life are fast tempos, but with enough raw power to be in the headbanging territory. The second heavywight comes along, Fight With the Killer, one of those unknown and powerful metal anthems. the chorus sings Fight With the Killer loud, by Walter Wicha pipes. kind of short song but packed th eright way.All night long it's kind of a rock n rollish number.Dying in the dust it's the third heavyweight in the album. Anthemish with gang chorus, would sound great in a packed arena, but railway never did it quite big, in fact, they are pretty underrated. I Wanna Run and Im a Looser are less than memorable, and the closer has to be the eightiest song in the albu, with a chorus that screams 1985 than anything else. This album is the best by railway and one of the best that 80s germany scene could give to Trad Heavy Metal.

Album:

Many stories revolve around it, books have been written on the subject, even Hollywood has its accepted and turned not only a film about it: the time machine. Yet it is so easy to travel through time.Everything you need for this is a CD player and a round disc, on the re-release is from Climax. Shortly after pressing the start button you can feel a slight pull in his stomach, which catapulted a split-second to 22 years after the rear. And before you know it, you end up in 1987, has again a mullet on the pear and fears this just back from the neck.Railway from our beloved hometown were probably one of the hottest bands in the 80s. That was the time when there was the fantasy (R.I.P.) and in the metal scene was not looking for new and ever more obscure metal drawers. There was only heavy metal, speed metal and thrash metal. That's it. More is not needed. And that was a good thing. The quintet has rather taken for the first two areas to complete, because could accelerate the guys without a doubt. Who does not believe that he should have time to "First Shot" or "Do not Try To Mess Around With Me" the eavesdropper tidy blow through. Just over the two-minute limit makes this song no prisoners. Quiet sounds then ringing already my absolute favorite song of the guys in, "Rockets" before the song about changes in driving midtempo and once again shows the class of this band. And probably no other song has the motto of that time better described as the stomping "Heavy & Loud" or "Boys Get Drunk". Climax is full of the band's hits, either "Ready To Rock", "Miss Lilly" or "I'm On Fire", which you can easily sing along again all at once, as if time had not been turned further. It's amazing how fresh and new songs on Climax even today, despite their age, sound, and that is not solely attributable to the remastering. Railway is a part of Munich's heavy rock history, and thus a piece of German rock history.

Album:

I was not particularly surprised when "Welcome Tonite" first went through my Tapedeck to find a very successful heavy rock production with varied song material. Certainly RAILWAY do not represent a world-class level on this record, but you can not deny that they have written and recorded their numbers with a feeling and dedication. Whether RAILWAY gets a competitive leg on the ground between the normally overwhelming competition in the "commercial hardrock / AOR" category remains questionable, but if you feel "under-supplied" in this area, you should risk a little eye. Good average plus X is offered by the Railways.

Album:

Hard and heavy release by RAILWAY back in 95 with a certain quality. They seem to be capable musicians but somehow their sound &approach isnt solid enough!you can find some good moments here and there and a good song like "Everybody Needs Somebody" but a lot of fillers also. The music on the fast songs is energetic and fun and it kept me from falling asleep on a long car ride. The Bowie cover..This is probably the worst cover I've ever heard and I've heard a lot of cover versions of various songs. And the song is even misnamed. The song is called "Heroes" and not "Hero" like on CD. Yes, it's a letter, but a cover is supposed to show respect for the original, so you should at least make an effort to write the title correctly.A mix of ACCEPT and KROKUS with a typical German approach. The album is much heavier and has a darker approach than previous releases from the band and although not as strong as past albums, is still an excellent release with 1 bonus track included.
