Bio:

W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in 1982. They emerged from the same Los Angeles scene that spawned Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Dokken, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Guns N' Roses and others. The band's popularity peaked in the 1980s, yet they continue to record and tour, making them one of the most enduring of the West Coast heavy metal bands. W.A.S.P. gained notoriety for their shock rock themed image, lyrics and live performances. They have sold over 12 million copies of their albums. The band was a prominent target in the mid-1980s of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), an organization that pushed for warning labels on recorded music. The band immortalized its fight with the PMRC on the song "Harder, Faster" from their 1987 live album, Live...In the Raw."I Wanna Be Somebody" was the most successful single from W.A.S.P.'s debut album and It was ranked at No. 84 in VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs of All Time.In October 2007, W.A.S.P. embarked on The Crimson Idol Tour, to celebrate that album's 15th anniversary. It is the first time that the album, often regarded to be among the band's finest work, was performed in full from start to finish. The tour kicked off in Greece, in Thessaloniki at the Principal Club Theater on October 26, 2007.Blackie Lawless remains the last member from the original line-up. They released their most recent album in November 2009, entitled Babylon. On September 21, 2012, the band celebrated the 30th anniversary of their first ever live show by kicking off a world tour at The Forum in London. The set for the tour was split into three sections: songs from the first four albums, a cut-down rendition of the Crimson Idol performance and a final segment for newer material.

Album:

The Crimson Idol is the fifth studio album by heavy metal band W.A.S.P., released internationally in 1992 through Capitol Records and on May 24, 1993 in the United States; a remastered edition was reissued in 1998, containing a bonus disc of B-sides and live material from 1992.The album charted within the top 40 in five countries. It is a concept album, telling the story of the rise and fall of a fictional rock star named Jonathan Stee.Taking nearly three years to complete, The Crimson Idol was originally recorded as a Blackie Lawless solo album, but bandleader Lawless bowed to fan pressure and released it under the W.A.S.P. name.[citation needed] Unusually, the album's tour—named The Crimson Idol Tour—took place fifteen years after its release to mark its fifteenth anniversary, commencing on October 26, 2007 at the Principal Club Theater in Thessaloniki, Greece.A film recorded for the album was also shown in public for the first time, which was played along with the band as they performed their tracks to it in synch. The show marked the only time that the album has ever been played from start to finish by the band since its recording. "Mephisto Waltz", the seventh track from The Headless Children (1989), served as the show's opener, followed by "The Titanic Overture", the first track from The Crimson Idol. All shows had a long encore section ranging from 2–6 songs, containing W.A.S.P. classics as well as "Take Me Up" from their 2007 album Dominator. The story of The Crimson Idol revolves around a teenager named Jonathan. He is the son of William and Elizabeth Steel, and brother of Michael Steel. Michael is the favored son of his parents, but Jonathan is a complete failure in their eyes. After Michael is killed in a car accident by a drunk driver, Jonathan runs away from home and starts to wander the streets, becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol. Whilst walking past a music store, he sees a guitar and desires to become a rock star. He breaks the display window with a bottle of booze, thus beginning his journey into acclaimed excess.Jonathan plays the stolen crimson-colored guitar as often as he can in order to obtain money to record an album. He then meets a man named "Chainsaw" Charlie, the president of a major record label. Charlie promises to make Jonathan a star, and introduces him to Alex Rodman, who will become his manager. Jonathan goes on to achieve his ambition of becoming a rock star, but finds out that life is not as glamorous as it seems. Despite now having fame and fortune, he still longs for the one thing he always wanted, that being the love and acceptance of his parents. One night before a concert, Jonathan calls his parents in an attempt to reconcile their differences and heal the emotional wounds between them. According to the story, "less than fifty words were spoken"; the last four of which being "we have no son". Realizing that he will never be accepted by his parents, Jonathan decides to commit suicide. During the aforementioned concert, he removes the strings from his guitar, shapes them into a noose and hangs himself.Greg Prato at AllMusic gave The Crimson Idol three stars out of five, calling it "essentially a Blackie Lawless solo album" and noting "The Invisible Boy", "Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue)" and "I Am One" as highlights.

Album:

Napalm Records will release February 2, 2018, W.A.S.P. "Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)", the 25th anniversary of the iconic concept album 'The Crimson Idol' as it was originally intended — film and soundtrack united and released as one special product."Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" also features several songs never released before, discarded by the record company due to 'CD physical space'.Indeed, "Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" comes in 2 CD, as with the new songs doesn't fit into 1.The Crimson Idol CD was originally intended to be accompanied by a movie, with several hundred hours of film that were shot to create approximately 60 minutes of movie footage. "Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" includes the video for the first time, both on DVD / Blu-ray.The album is still considered to be the best of W.A.S.P.'s career, and one of the greatest Rock concept albums of all time. "The Crimson Idol" tells the twisted tale of a suicidal rock and roll icon and the perils that come with fame. With guitarist Chris Holmes no longer a member of W.A.S.P., Blackie Lawless recorded "The Crimson Idol" with guitarist Bob Kulick (KISS, BLACKJACK) and drummers Stet Howland and Frankie Banali (QUIET RIOT).In fact, the record was intended as a solo album, but Lawless bowed to fan pressure and released it under the W.A.S.P. name. It’s a great record and more Rock fans need to be familiar with it, hell, even re-acquainted with it.Too often we’re inundated with mundane crap and cookie cutter nonsense, but, more often than not, gems like "Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" get released and soon forgotten because of the 'attention deficit hyperactivity disorder' age of the Internet we live in.Let’s not let that happen this time.Voted one of the Top 20 conceptual albums of all-time by Metal Hammer magazine, The Crimson Idol is obviously more of a soundtrack than, say, a straight rock 'n' roll album. Now it's complete in "Re-Idolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)", adding very good tracks never heard before. While this is an advanced copy, you can clearly hear how the album is sonically re-imagined, updated to 2018.

Album:

W.A.S.P. is the debut album by American heavy metal band W.A.S.P., released August 17, 1984 (see 1984 in heavy metal music). The album has been known under three different names; the spine of the original vinyl release had Winged Assassins printed on it, while early cassette releases of the album had the name of the album's first track, "I Wanna Be Somebody", printed in bold letters on the cover. The album is officially entitled simply W.A.S.P., which it is typically referred to as.Upon its original release, controversial track "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)" was deleted from the album. The Parents Music Resource Center had labeled the song as one of its "Filthy Fifteen", songs that the group determined to be morally objectionable. Capitol Records subsequently bowed to pressure and pulled the song. The band released the song on an independent label in the UK as a single in 1984, and it was reinstated on the album's 1998 reissue. The song "I Wanna Be Somebody", released as the album's first single with accompanying music video, achieved such success that it was ranked No. 84 on VH1's list of the "Top 100 Hard Rock Songs" of all time.Several of the album's songs have been covered by other bands. "Sleeping (In the Fire)" has been covered by Tiamat and Anders Manga, "Hellion" by Children of Bodom, "L.O.V.E. Machine" by Fallen Man,[5] Lullacry, Fozzy and Alghazanth, "I Wanna Be Somebody" by Sentenced, Catamenia, Witchery, and Gates of Ishtar, and "The Torture Never Stops" by the death metal group Torture Division. The song "Tormentor" was heard in the films The Dungeonmaster (1984) and TerrorVision (1986).

On Oct. 9, W.A.S.P. will release Golgotha, their 15th studio album and first since 2009′s Babylon. We have the exclusive premiere of one of the record’s songs, “Last Runaway,” which you can listen to below.“Forty years ago I came to Hollywood as a teenager,” says frontman Blackie Lawless. “Terrified and scared out of my mind, I had no idea what waited there for me. The song ‘Last Runaway’ is an intensely personal account of what happened to me, not only then but over the years and the success that followed after. Be it a kid looking for success in the music business or any life challenging endeavor that someone would ‘Runaway’ from in life, I’m certain that everyone can relate to this story one way or another. It’s another kid ‘chasing the dream’ and trying to survive it in the process. We’ve all been there.”Named after the hill where Jesus Christ was crucified, Golgotha (which means “place of the skull”) continues their exploration of Biblical horror stories that W.A.S.P. employed on Babylon. ““There are times in any band’s career that somehow all things mesh together,” says Lawless. “Their experiences, influences, and personal timing bring them into a common space. This has happened with this record. Four years in the making has provided direction, but even greater reflection.”

Bio:

W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in 1982.

Album:

On Oct. 9, W.A.S.P. will release Golgotha, their 15th studio album and first since 2009′s Babylon.

Album:

W.A.S.P. is the debut album by American heavy metal band W.A.S.P., released August 17, 1984. Madfish Music is a reputable reissue label known for quality releases, and they have just put out a digipak CD remastered edition of W.A.S.P.'s self titled full length debut plus 2 bonus tracks. As extra, we added the radio remix versions of ‘I Wanna Be Somebody (Remix)’ and ‘L.O.V.E. Machine (Rock Radio Mix)’.Blackie Lawless launched W.A.S.P. on the unsuspecting world in 1983, and before long tales of their outrageous music and intense stage shows were legendary. This debut album proves that while the theatrics and shock tactics of Lawless might have gained the headlines, it was what they did on record that gained them legions of fans. All of the songs on "W.A.S.P." flat out rock in some way or another, offering up a diverse plate of simplistic, yet engaging riffage, vocal work, and solos. A few songs are more typical of the L.A. scene with a catchy, coomercial approach, yet plenty of bite.Take the sex anthem "B.A.D." with its hooky chorus and darkly orgasmic lyrics; yes, typical of the day, but WASP's riffage and take-no-prisoner attitude turn it from glam fodder into a spirited heavy metal romp. The same goes for the melodic, but oh so catchy grooves of "L.O.V.E. Machine" and the bruising "school sux!" motif of the fun anthem "School Daze", but when W.A.S.P. turns up the metal, on man, they kill.Proper opener "Animal (F@ck Like A Beast)" - which the original label, Capitol, choose to omit from the album when it was originally released - is the sex song to end all sex songs, a midpaced pounder with a raging chorus that scandalized a portion of prudish American society in the '80s.The carnage continues with the swift uptempo metal of fan favorite "I Wanna Be Somebody", the whirlwind intensity of "Hellion", and the slow-ish, evil stomping of "Tormentor"."On Your Knees" remains a personal favorite for its gnarly midpaced aesthetics, cool throwaway riffs, and the chorus's belligerent backing vocals. This remaster sounds million bucks, and includes as bonus two 7'' single B-side non album tracks; the strident "Show No Mercy" (Animal flip side) and the Rolling Stones cover "Paint It Black", very well done with a heavy groove. This is screaming US metal the way that it was originally intended to be - catchy, energetic and a lot of fun - a classic album and the start of an amazing carreer for Lawless & co.

Line-Up:

Album:

Officially licensed to UK label MadFish Music, few moths ago appeared this stupendous remastered reissue of W.A.S.P. breakthrough second album “The Last Command”. Housed in a deluxe Digipak, the reissue includes 7 bonus tracks; the two B-side / Non album tracks from the band’s biggest singles, “Blind In Texas” and “Wild Child”, plus the killer ‘Live At The Lyceum 1984’.Love the 8-page booklet featuring liner notes from renowned journalist Dom Lawson, all the lyrics and photos in a true Rock Candy fashion. Here always give you more, so as extras we added the ‘remixed radio versions’ of “Blind In Texas” and “Wild Child”.With W.A.S.P.’s second album ‘The Last Command’, Blackie & cohorts made a slight move closer to the mainstream. Blackie Lawless gave the producer’s chair to Spencer Proffer who worked magic with Quiet Riot in 1983.There was also a new drummer. W.A.S.P. said sayonara to Tony Richards and hit Japan with new guy Steve Riley, who today is best known for L.A. Guns. Riley’s pasty-white demeanor fit right in with W.A.S.P.’s horror rock fantasy. This foursome (also featuring guitarists Chris Holmes and Randy Piper) became what many refer to as the “classic” lineup. Each side of the original LP was top-loaded: “Wild Child” led off side one while “Blind in Texas” was used to ignite side two. This was a calculated move, ‘cos both were chosen as singles, and are two of the catchest songs on the album. The strategy worked as this album doubled the sales of W.A.S.P.’s first, and those two singles had a lot to do with it.“Wild Child” in particular was proof that W.A.S.P. could write songs and not just iron riffs. With a bright incandescence, “Wild Child” found its way onto radio. It’s an early example of what Blackie Lawless can do when he gets everything right. As for “Blind in Texas”? It was always more of a novelty, a chance for the crowd to yell along with Blackie. A cute ZZ Top cameo in the music video didn’t hurt their chances on the Power Hour, and even the staunchest critic must admit this is a blast of pure fun.Delving into the deeper cuts, “Ballcrusher” is… a quaint love song, let’s say, with a metal chug and a cutting W.A.S.P. riff. Throw on one of those shouty W.A.S.P. choruses and you pretty much know how “Ballcrusher” goes!Wealth is celebrated on “Fistful of Diamonds” which is the blueprint for all the anthemic W.A.S.P. rockers to follow. Steve Riley made his songwriting debut on “Jack Action”, a cool rocker. On side one, however you will discover one real diamond which is the slow and ominous “Widowmaker”. This one too is a blueprint, for classic W.A.S.P. prowls like “The Headless Children”.The band delivers a true 80s metal ballad in “Cries in the Night” It does have a strangely futuristic Iron Maiden-circa-1992 vibe, as if Steve Harris nicked this song for some of his own on Fear of the Dark.Title track “The Last Command” is very simple and at the same time pure W.A.S.P., while “Running Wild in the Streets” sounds pretty much like Quiet Riot. Ask Spencer Proffer, but surely the similarity between the “all the way!” section and the “I want more!” part of “Scream and Shout” is not coincidence.Closing The Last Command is “Sex Drive”, a typical mid-Eighties glam hard rock Californian rocker, fun enough and a product of its era.The bonus tracks are juicy, as include the singles B-sides “Mississippi Queen” (a very cool Mountain cover), and “Savage”, a killer song that deserved a place into the main album. Who makes the decision to release it as an obscure B-side?The rest of the bonus tracks are all recorded ‘Live At The Lyceum 1984’, and all W.A.S.P. classics: “Animal F@ck Like a Beast”, “I Wanna Be Somebody”, “Sleeping (In the Fire)”, “Hellion” and “On Your Knees” – all sounds like W.A.S.P. were formidable live. What a kick as live recording. As extra we added the remixed versions of “Blind In Texas” and “Wild Child”, as far I know originally only done for Radio stations and not for sale. Collectors stuff.Awesome remastered reissue by Madfish.

Line-Up:

Bio:

W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in 1982.

Album:

Here’s the other W.A.S.P. album just reissued 2018 by Madfish Music, a digipak CD digitally remastered version of “Live… In The Raw” plus four bonus tracks.Originally released in 1987, this album can be seen as something of a breakwater between the ‘old’ W.A.S.P. of the first three albums and the more mature sound of the releases that would follow. This is W.A.S.P.’s first live album, recorded in Long Beach at the end of the Inside of the Electric Circus World Tour. Not surprisingly, there is a chunk of songs from that album present here and they are an improvement over the studio counterparts. In fact, that statement can be applied to most tracks here, as the band is top shape. The concert has a lot of energy (still a staple of this band) and the crowd feels alive and enjoying the show.“Live… In the Raw” has no overdubs, the album doesn’t feel overproduced or polished, instead it sounds exactly how it is supposed to be if you had been there. The band members are on fire, Blackie Lawless has a great stage presence and his over the top comments are very funny. The rest of the band doesn’t take a backseat either as they provide the necessary punch to the songs, and now with this remaster you can hear a louder bass.Tracks like “L.O.V.E. Machine”, “I Wanna be Somebody” and “Sleeping (In the Fire)” confirm that they are a great live band.If you don’t like ‘Live’ albums, with “Live… In The Raw” think twice. You have two tracks written specifically for this album; the killer “The Manimal” and “Harder Faster” (which is about the PMRC declaring them “sexual perverts”). Both songs never were recorded into the studio and are exclusive to this album.Additionally, you have the new studio track “Scream Until You Like It” – written by the great Paul Sabu – recorded for the soundtrack movie of ‘Ghoulies II’.As plus, you have 3 more live cuts not present in the original release, and a new acoustic, studio recording of “Sleeping (In the Fire)”, which I like a lot.

Line-Up:

Blackie Lawless - Guitars (1982, 1986-present), Vocals (1982-present), Bass (1983-1986, 1989-1992, 1993-1996), Keyboards (1992-present) - See also: ex-Hear 'n Aid, ex-Sister, ex-London, ex-Circus Circus, ex-Killer Kane, ex-New York Dolls
Chris Holmes – lead and rhythm guitar
Johnny Rod – bass guitar, backing vocals
Steve Riley – drums, backing vocals

Tracklist:

01. Inside the Electric Circus (Live)
02. I Don’t Need No Doctor (Live)
03. L.O.V.E. Machine (Live)
04. Wild Child (Live)

Album:

The Headless Children is the fourth studio album by heavy metal band W.A.S.P., released in April 1989 through Capitol Records.Madfish Music is a reputable reissue label known for quality releases, and they have just put out a digipak CD remastered edition of W.A.S.P.'s fourth album "The Headless Children", with the addition of 6 juicy bonus tracks.A creative and mature work, "The Headless Children" saw W.A.S.P. move away from the over-the-top antics that had made the band's name, and is regarded by many fans and critics as the one of the band's finest records. The line-up for this album was reduced in Blackie Lawless, longtime guitarist Chris Holmes, and King Kobra bassist Johnny Rod, with the addition of Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali, legendary Uriah Heep keyboardist Ken Hensley, and several other musicians contributing backing vocals, such as Lita Ford. The guitar tone is rough but belligerent, the riffs themselves aren’t as bumbling as they used to be but they still hold that distinct ‘80s tinge. Bass support performed by King Kobra's Johnny Rod I’d call their best, since the lines are great and you can actually hear them aside by the guitars. When Blackie was on bass on the previous albums, he really didn’t give a whole lot of spotlight to his own lines (or audibility), but at that time it was excusable because the songs were short and catchy. Here, they’re more refined and hold their own closer to a blubbery fashion where you can actually hear it protruding it’s lines against the rest. Drumming itself is vicious, helping attain that aggressive attitude that marks nearly the entire album. The album's best-known tracks remain the rocking "Mean Man" (an autobiographical tale about guitarist Holmes) and their terrific cover of The Who's Quadrophenia anthem "The Real Me". Pete Townsend declared that W.A.S.P.’s cover of “The Real Me” was more like what he wished the original version by The Who would have come out like.Well, if that’s true, then Blackie certainly outdid some aspects of his childhood heroes, because that’s not even the best track on here. No, the best one is the ballad “Forever Free”, one of the best songs from '80s rock music in general.Listening to “Forever Free”, I’ve never heard Blackie with so much anguish in his voice before this; it sounds like he can barely get through his lines – the passion, the personal touch, and the despair; it’s all so enduring.Other highlights include "The Heretic (The Lost Child)" with its galloping riff, dark thematic and epic build up, the booming epic "Thunderhead" and the rumbling, melting riffs of the title track. Then you have an angry, booze-sodden hard rock song in the furiously headbangable "Rebel in the F.D.G.".There's a little something here for everyone, and the variety is just delightful, making for a fully functioning banquet of '80s metal glory."The Headless Children" is nothing if not a manifesto to energetic, rocking mastery of the style. It's compulsively replayable, endlessly enjoyable and it just rocks like there's no tomorrow.By in large, this album marked W.A.S.P.’s journey into deeper and darker territories which, to this day, the band has still been living in. It's something like a prequel of their following masterpiece The Crimson Idol.W.A.S.P. have a lot of very good albums, and this is definitely one of their finest. The original release feels pretty lacking with only ten tracks and the experience goes by too quickly, so to find here extra tracks come in handy. This expanded reissue gives you not only good 6 bonus tracks, but also a sound boost thanks to a clear remaster that I’d praise.

Line-Up:

Blackie Lawless - Guitars (1982, 1986-present), Vocals (1982-present), Bass (1983-1986, 1989-1992, 1993-1996), Keyboards (1992-present) - See also: ex-Hear 'n Aid, ex-Sister, ex-London, ex-Circus Circus, ex-Killer Kane, ex-New York Dolls

Johnny Rod – bass, background vocals
Ken Hensley – keyboards
Frankie Banali – drums, percussion
Lita Ford, Diana Fennell, Ron Wallace and more – backing vocals

Album:

Still Not Black Enough is the sixth studio album by W.A.S.P., first released in June 10, 1995 in Japan only. It was not released in the U.S. until August 1996 through Castle Records.Still Not Black Enough was originally slated for release as a Blackie Lawless solo album, but due to the heavy content, Lawless changed his mind and decided to release it as a W.A.S.P. album. This had also been the case for the previous album, The Crimson Idol. Still Not Black Enough is considered somewhat a successor to The Crimson Idol, bearing a strong resemblance with its lyrical themes. However, instead of telling the story of the fictional character Jonathan, this album is mostly a collection of personal songs from Blackie Lawless, including issues involving the death of his mother and personal crises just after world tour for The Crimson Idol.Still Not Black Enough is the successor of my favorite W.A.S.P. album, the almighty The Crimson Idol. Though to follow up on such a killer album if you ask me. But Blackie is up to the task and delivers yet another killer album and a worthy successor. The only complaint, and yet it isn't really one, is that its maybe a bit too similar with The Crimson Idol, the overall sound, the songs, everything smells and breathes like the previous opus, but, is this really a problem ? I don't think so. At least not for me, having two killer albums of this caliber is actually pure joy ! (though joy might not be one emotion floating at the surface while listening to either of these masterpieces).Just like for The Crimson Idol, this album does not contain a single weak track, the album contains 10 tracks and they are all a pure demonstration of the Heavy Metal mastery that Blackie can deliver. On the vocal side, we're on par with the previous album, emotional and excellent performance are on the rendez-vous. The drumming (and the originality) is maybe what doesn't put the album to the same level as The Crimson Idol. Its still great, but some of the magic and craziness is gone in that area. Guitar work is awesome, alternating heavy and melodic with the right balance. As the title suggests, this album is dark, maybe not as depressing as TCI (got bored of writing the title over and over again), but then very few albums are. The album contains tons of killer songs, my favorite are the fast paced like Still Not Black Enough, Black Forever, Goodbye America & No Way Out Of Here. But the ballads on that album are simply awesome too, Keep Holding On is very emotional and sad song. Breath has a more heavy part, a power ballad a la W.A.S.P.. Rock'N'Roll to Death is a great rock tune, and its good to see that bands don't forget their roots, and this song is the perfect exemple (the guitar reminds me of Johnny Be Good). I Can't is a rather disturbing song, but carries a powerful and disturbed vibe, another killer song. The album closes perfectly on a fast paced song, No Way Out Of Here, which makes you beg for more... and more of this style we wouldn't get until quite a while, until The Neon God.If The Crimson Idol wouldn't have existed, then this might have been my favorite album of W.A.S.P, but it borrows a lot from its predecessor (and its also significantly shorter), both musically and lyrically, an album which is actually more of a continuation or expansion of TCI. Interesting footnote on the album, where Blackie Lawless states is not "hiding behind Jonathan Steele" anymore. On a another matter concerning Blackie's career : I wish Schwarzy had let Blackie do the T-1000 in the Terminator 2 movie, not that I dislike Robert Patrick (on the contrary), but c'mon, it would have been fun to see him as a liquid metal killing machine wouldn't it ? In the end, for the reasons mentioned earlier, Still Not Black Enough couldn't be considered a classic in my opinion, but its the next best thing : and that is a killer album !

Line-Up:

Blackie Lawless - Guitars (1982, 1986-present), Vocals (1982-present), Bass (1983-1986, 1989-1992, 1993-1996), Keyboards (1992-present) - See also: ex-Hear 'n Aid, ex-Sister, ex-London, ex-Circus Circus, ex-Killer Kane, ex-New York Dolls
