Lightning Bolt is the tenth studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam. Produced by long-time Pearl Jam collaborator Brendan O'Brien, the album was released in the United States on October 15, 2013, through the band's own Monkeywrench Records, with Republic Records handling the international release one day earlier.The band began composing new songs in 2011, the album's first recording sessions took place in early 2012 before the musicians decided to take a break. As all band members got into side projects afterwards, work on Lightning Bolt only resumed in March 2013. The music for Lightning Bolt has a harder rock sound with longer songs in contrast to predecessor Backspacer (2009), and the lyrics convey singer Eddie Vedder's feelings on aging and mortality.Preceded by a promotional campaign focusing on Pearl Jam's website and social network profiles and two moderately successful singles, "Mind Your Manners" and "Sirens", Lightning Bolt was well received by critics, who considered the album an effective return to the band's old sound, and topped the charts in the United States, Canada, and Australia.Lightning Bolt would be the only album of original music Pearl Jam would release in the decade of the 2010s.

Gigaton is the upcoming eleventh studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam, scheduled to be released on March 27, 2020.It was preceded by the singles "Dance of the Clairvoyants" and "Superblood Wolfmoon".It will be the band's first studio album in seven years.The album's track listing was confirmed by the band on January 20, 2020.The cover artwork was produced by photographer Paul Nicklen.Its release was scheduled to coincide with a tour of North America.However, the North American leg was postponed due to the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, with the aim to reschedule them for a later date.Rolling Stone writer Kory Grow gave the album a positive review, rating it 4 out of 5 stars. Grow wrote that Gigaton is "an admirable, inspiring example of grown-up grunge".Spin writer John Paul Bullock was also positive toward the album, writing, "Gigaton has a little something for everyone. It's a complex, dynamic album full of earnest emotion and subtle humor".Mojo, in yet another positive review, wrote, "Strong and loose, political and personal, Pearl Jam get the balance absolutely right".Writing for The A. V. Club, Alex McLevy gave the album a B, criticizing it for being uneven, but praising the band for musical experimentation and writing that it, "stands out in comparison to several more recent Pearl Jam albums due to the improved ratio of hits to misses on the back half".Consequence of Sound critic Matt Melis graded the album a B+, noting that the three best songs from Gigaton were "Superblood Wolfmoon", "Quick Escape" and "Retrograde".

In our opinion one of the few respectable band from the grunge movement, PEARL JAM are about to release their new album titled “Dark Matter” next Friday.Despite its title, Pearl Jam seems to find a new light on “Dark Matter”, an album jam-packed with fist-pumping rockers, strong songwriting, and melodies tailor-made to be shouted with the windows down. Some of their strongest work in recent memory.From the get-go, the band deliver some of their most hard-hitting tracks in recent years, launching into explosive numbers ‘Scared Of Fear’ and ‘React, Respond’. This time around though, they have not only ventured back to their roots, but combined it with their decades of experience.Nowhere is this refinement showcased better than the title track. Alongside delivering the same rapturous hit of energy that first put Pearl Jam on the scene, it also showcases the instrumental virtuosity of bassist Jeff Ament and lead guitarist Mike McCready, as the two playfully toy with dynamics and show off some scarcely seen flashiness.Yes, the thing that stands out most about ‘Dark Matter’ is Pearl Jam’s ability to still let rip 33 years down the line, however, this is a bold move that doesn’t always pay off.While the aforementioned tracks stand out as some of the strongest moments on the album, later additions like ‘Running’ seem to fall flat, as a whirlwind of lyrics and heavy riffs arrive in substitute of substance.There’s more blues-flavoured tracks on ‘Wreckage’, ‘Won’t Tell’ and ‘Something Special’, taking a stripped-back, almost-country approach as Vedder lays down his signature vocals over the top.For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise. Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet.
