Bio:

Seventh Wonder is a progressive metal band from Stockholm, Sweden formed in 2000. They are currently working on their 5th studio album, which is planned for a 2017 release.Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 by bass player Andreas Blomqvist, guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin after their previous band fell apart. Their music started to develop in the direction of progressive metal and as the band was joined by keyboard player Andreas Kyrt Söderin late 2000, the new sound was cemented further. Two demos were recorded, the first in 2001 (Seventh Wonder) and the second in 2003 (Temple In The Storm), both of which received good press. Many singers have come and gone in Seventh Wonder over the years, among others Ola Halén of power metal band Insania Sthlm. The longest lasting member in the past was Andi Kravljaca (ex: Heave, Elsesphere, now Silent Call), and it was with Kravljaca at the microphone that the band recorded their debut album Become (released in 2005), after landing a record deal with Finland's Lion Music. Prior to the release of Become in 2005, Tommy Karevik joined the band. Become was well received by the press and top scores were given everywhere. However, the band and Andi decided to part ways shortly after the recording process had ended and once more the search for a singer started. The next album, entitled Waiting in the Wings, was recorded in 2006 and was mixed and mastered by Tommy Hansen. Waiting in the Wings got even better reviews than Become did, scoring multiple top scores of 10 out of 10 "Review by "Progressor.net"". Nov 10, 2006., "Review by "TreeHouse of Death"". Feb 14, 2007., "Review by "Prognaut"". Jan 10, 2007. Archived from the original on 2009-10-22., "Review by "Living For Metal"". Oct 18, 2006., not too common in the business.2007 was a year of writing new material and playing live. During 2007 Seventh Wonder played in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England and the Netherlands together with acts such as Jorn Lande, Pagan's Mind, Queensryche, Testament, Sun Caged and Redemption. In August 2007 the band parted ways with Intromental Management, but continued to work with Lion Music.Seventh Wonder released their next album, Mercy Falls, on September 12, 2008. It is a concept album about a man who drops into a coma after a car crash and dreams of a place called Mercy Falls, while his family tries in vain to wake him from his sleep. In December 2009, they began writing material for The Great Escape. They entered the studio in April 2010, and posted regular updates on their official forum and YouTube channel. The album The Great Escape was released on December 3, 2010, and was very well received by fans and critics. Before the release of the album, drummer Johnny Sandin quit the band for private reasons. On April 25, 2011, Seventh wonder announced that Stefan Norgren had replaced Sandin as the Band's drummer. In June 2012, Tommy Karevik was announced as Kamelot's new singer, but stated that he has no intention of leaving Seventh Wonder. On September 7, 2013, the band announced they will be recording a live DVD at 2014 ProgPower USA Festival, performing songs from their album Mercy Falls in its entirety for the first and final time.In 2016, the band signed with Italian record company Frontiers Records to release the live CD/DVD called Welcome To Atlanta Live 2014 on September 23, 2016 and also a new studio album that is expected to be released in 2017.

Album:

Let's start this with a fact; SEVENTH WONDER is one of my favorite band from the current scene no matter the genre. They are powerful yet elegant, heavy yet melodic, all crowned by a stupendous musicianship. to be released by Frontiers Music, "Welcome To Atlanta: Live" documents the band's show at ProgPower USA in 2014 performing their excellent album Mercy Falls in its entirety. On par with Seventh Wonder's studio albums and live performances, the sound recording of "Welcome To Atlanta: Live" is simply immaculate. Every musician is heard with crisp clarity, notably Andreas Blomqvist on his six-string bass.In front of a raving audience, the band performed their third record in full - the concept album Mercy Falls, a fan favorite - but it also has four tracks from Waiting In The Wings, two tracks from The Great Escape, an acoustic medley of tracks, a studio recording of a new track and an official release of 'Inner Enemy' (which originally only got released as its music video online). The album starts with 'A New Beginning', which is the first track from Mercy Falls and is full of haunting keys and stadium sized guitars, with a slightly galactic feel to it. With a sombre finish, it piles into 'There and Back (Overture)' which is crammed full of atmospheric guitars and hammering drums as it begins to weave the story in your mind’s eye.Next is 'Welcome to Mercy Falls' in which guitars continue the intricate story telling with another space age feel to it before the haunting vocals of Tommy Karevik start for the first time on the album. As 'Unbreakable' starts, it is clear to hear that Seventh Wonder have stayed remarkably true to the studio version of Mercy Falls, getting the sound nigh on perfect from the stunning guitars to the solid bass and drums; the live rendition also featuring the stellar guitar solo from fretboard wizard Johan Liefvendahl.'Tears for A Father', 'A Day Away' and 'Tears for a Son 'also remain very faithful to the studio tracks, and make you realise how much of a masterpiece it was, even after eight years – and it has weathered the test of time very well indeed. 'Tears for a Father' also features an emotional crowd participation, which warms the cockles as you can just feel how delighted people are to be there and witnessing the full sole re-telling of this album.'Paradise' and 'Break the Silence' are some of my personal high points of the album, with stonking bass, huge vocals and top-notch instrumentation work throughout that continue to paint a delightful manic imagery of Mercy Falls as it plays out in the man’s comatose mind. The strength of the live sound continues with 'Fall in Line', and the rest of the Mercy Falls album, Seventh Wonder consistently doing justice to their critically acclaimed studio album in a live setting, with on-point guitars and bass, all the instruments set at an equally decent level so you, the listener, get a full taste of their showmanship and bravado.Another one of my personal favourites is 'One Last Goodbye', which is a stunning climatic piece to wow you into submission with the range of what Seventh Wonder can do.The two bonus tracks, 'Inner Enemy' and 'The Promise' are breathtaking, and are a great addition to this album with fantastic vocals and guitars weaving their way throughout them.'Inner Enemy' with its song format at 3:41 minutes it’s exactly the sort of track that would work well as a single for a progressive metal record: short enough to encourage non-prog fans to give it a shot, but complex enough to not feel like the band have stripped the complexity out of their sound to longtime listeners. The Promise' is a brilliant composition with a somewhat sympho edge but it still sounds like Seventh Wonder, right down to the spectacular chorus. The slight symphonic touches raise some interesting questions about where the band is going with their upcoming fifth record.Long-time fans of Seventh Wonder will adore this live offering "Welcome To Atlanta: Live", and newcomers have the opportunity to discover this incredible band.It will delight and impress both, as it's a stellar addition to the Seventh Wonder discography.

Album:

It’s been eight long years since Sweden’s Progressive Metal veterans SEVENTH WONDER released an album. That’s a long time to be out of the game, but fortunately, fans have rabidly been awaiting this release and it doesn’t seem to have affected the band’s fan base. Indeed, quite the opposite. People have been lining up and waiting for this release for some time now. “Arrival” is a short keyboard opening piece, setting an ominous tone for what it to come. It segues into “The Everones,” which opens with a somber and intense guitar riff, leading to vocal harmonies and some Proggy time meters. A big chorus ensues, with plenty of emotions, where vocalist Tommy really stretches out, followed by a keyboard solo that will really get your juices flowing. “Dream Machines” features a chugging guitar riff that explores here and there, and some tender vocals. The sound is all over the place, cutting in and out with snippets of melody but hardly lasting long enough for you to get used to one particular passage. He caps it with a high wail at the end.“Against the Grain” opens with acoustical guitars that leads to a lead guitar passage that climbs the scale with grace and beauty, and a keyboard solo that follows the melody line very well. What follows is an exercise in Progressive Metal madness…trading off passages of pure beauty with ones that rattle with shifting meters and changing keys. “Victorious” is a proclamation of winning; a stalwart sound that rings with the gloats of a conquering hero. The chorus reflects this with a full and rich sound and something that you can sing along with easily. It makes you feel alive, and capable of taking on anything. Then comes the “Farewell” trilogy, which in total is close to 20 minutes in length. “Tiara’s Song” is the first movement; a charming track that features equal parts of guitar pyrotechnics and vocal domination. The second movement, “Goodbye” a heart-felt anguish. Supple piano keys open the song with vocals that are throb with expressive sorrow. It culminates in a crescendo and then slowly fades away.“Beyond Today” is the third and final movement. Piano notes and background vocals dance together in unison, while Tommy delivers one of the most memorable vocal performances on the album, where they end with talking about “how the best is yet to come,” and they have convinced you of this. “The Truth” features bass guitar notes dancing under a track of heavy endearment that also features a brief passage of female vocals that join in with the fantasy with power and beauty. “By the Light of the Funeral Pyres” is an anthem of pure aggression and fast-moving guitars that never lets up. The pyrotechnics illuminate the sky in tones of deep red and bright purple, something that freezes you in your footsteps and draws you in to its stunning sound. “Damnation Below” opens with fanciful guitar riff that is soon followed by a heavy sound with solemn tones. Moments of levity break up the feeling of censure that you get from the title of the song. The very brief “Procession” leads to the closer and the longest song on the album, “Exhale.” This song has it all…rowdy and firey passages of pure angst and emotion, thoughtful and preserved passages that swirl with beauty and charm, and a feeling of something closing around you, as it ends in a celebration of all that is good in your life with a satisfying smile and inward peace. Eight long years was well worth the wait. They have their craft so honed now, that they can practically finish each other’s sentences. The production is key here, so consummate that everything can be heard in its proper place. Every note, every key change and time change, performed so flawlessly that it is remarkable and thrilling to listen to. Yet, the pure beauty of it remains….what made you fall in love with the band in the first place.

Album:

"The Testament" follows 2018's "Tiara", which was the band's first new music in eight years at the time. While the wait between albums was shorter this time around, the band certainly did not need any extra time to craft a stunning album showcasing their prolific instrumental skills and intricate songwriting. Indeed, "The Testament" is a high watermark in the band's already revered discography.Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 by bassist Andreas Blomqvist, guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin after their previous band fell apart. The music they were writing and playing turned towards progressive metal. When keyboardist Andreas “Kyrt” Söderin joined in late 2000, their new sonic explorations were only cemented further. Two demos were recorded (2001 & 2003) and the latter caught the attention of Lion Music, which signed the band in 2004. That collaboration spawned the first Seventh Wonder album, "Become", which was released in June 2005. “Become” was well received by progressive metal fans and media alike. However, the band and singer Andi Kravljaca decided to part ways shortly after the recording process had ended. Enter the brilliant Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, ex-Vindictiv), who joined the band in 2005, actually prior to the official release of “Become”.The next album, "Waiting In The Wings", was recorded in 2006 and mixed and mastered by legendary Tommy Hansen. This album was a huge leap forward in terms of song complexity and maturity and received outstanding reviews and fan accolades, establishing Seventh Wonder as a force to be reckoned with in the progressive metal world. 2007 was spent playing live in support of the album, including sharing stage with legendary bands such as Queensrÿche, Testament, Redemption and many others in England, Holland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.Simultaneously in 2007, a follow-up to "Waiting In The Wings" was written. The band hit the studio in May of 2008 to record their third full-length, “Mercy Falls”, which was hailed as a true masterpiece at the time of its release. "Mercy Falls" was supported with several live shows in Europe, including Italy, Norway, Finland and Holland. In 2010, the band released “The Great Escape”, which again was met with critical and fan acclaim and cemented the band's standing as one of the premiere progressive metal bands in existence. In support, the band again toured in Europe and also appeared live in the USA at ProgPower Festival. After "The Great Escape" album release, drummer Johnny Sandin left the band and would later be replaced by the incredibly talented Stefan Norgren (ex-Lion's Share). Seventh Wonder fans collectively lost their minds in 2018 when it was announced that after an agonizing eight year wait, the band's latest studio album "Tiara" would be released. "Tiara" once again continued the band's winning streak of crafting progressive metal masterpieces and was greeted with high levels of enthusiasm. Now, in 2022, the band one again returns with another magnum opus of a progressive metal album, "The Testament".
